This is what I'm saying - the perception that Phil is an absentee President is going to make this off-season harder for the team to sign Free Agents.

They probably don't do that if Rambis is sitting next to Phil asking them questions and telling them what to work on in the offseason. I am really surprised that you don't think the coaching hire is Phil's call.

Phil stipulated in his deal that Dolan not interfere and he be given final say in basketball matters. If Dolan was back involved Phil would walk.

It was also right after he had the huge game in the d league all star game where he won mvp. Who did Phil whiff on? Teague?

If my memory is correct, he whiffed on every single move he tried to make and the Knicks did not make a trade, despite the fact they were desperately looking to upgrade the PG position.

I believe this as well. I don't think Blatt impressed and I also think he could be considering doing it himself, prior to Vogel being available. I'm assuming he'll speak to vogel before making a decision.

I agree with both responses. This is Phil's decision. He maybe thinking about coming back to the bench, or he maybe thinking about the influence he can have on the team if Rambis is the coach versus other candidates. I don't think anyone is preventing Phil from hiring Rambis except for Phil.

i agree as well with the exception that Phil wont' coach. I do suspect that whoever it is he will be more active at practices and with the coach but that's the extent of it.

I too think he's debating the merits of Rambis knowing the system etc vs. his "bleh" record. And he's also worried about getting a good, well-intended coach only to find out the new coach doesn't quite get it either or deeply enough and weighing the pros and cons

I'd like to think his "vacation" is mostly to have some space away from the NY media and hopefully he is meeting people in person as we speak
