Knicks · What The Jackson/Rambis Triangle Seminar Means . . . (page 2)

I don't think Rambis will be the coach, one way or the other. I think he'll certainly be on the coaching STAFF, though not as head coach. I think the team may run the Triangle offense, with Kurt serving as Tex Winter 2.
But I think the vacation and Phil mulling the coaching move will mean a different head coach once the silence is broken.
I think maybe Blatt, maybe Vogel, maybe Phil himself.
Time will tell.
Rambis didn't knock it out of the park as the head coach and so that made Phil have to pause and look at other options. The only thing stopping Phil from hiring Rambis is Phil. It's Phil's decision to make and I think as he always does, Phil is taking his time to really weigh the plus and minus of Rambis verses Vogel, Blatt etc.
Maybe he's in Montana praying to the Zen Gods and he's just waiting for them to give him the answer.

I believe this as well. I don't think Blatt impressed and I also think he could be considering doing it himself, prior to Vogel being available. I'm assuming he'll speak to vogel before making a decision.
Interesting then that the only other candidate he's interviewed is Steve Mills' best friend. That, to me, at least suggests that Phil is not the person who has an issue with Rambis.
"Interesting"...........
I love that line when connecting the dots.
For all we know, Maybe Mills wanted to help his friend Dave out to meet the "Godfather" and:
1. Ask him for an interview
2. seek advice for what he should do next.Crzydups, I think your so one sided that your bend your opinion as you wish to conclude that suits your "theory".
It's weird that every national writer and Knicks writer to address the team basically is saying the same thing, no? You realize these writers talk to league executives, so that's also the perception around the league, right? Are we all just making shit up? And Phil's doing a good job, but the media is just being too hard on him? I guess the proof will be in the pudding come Free Agency, when we see how many players around the league are very excited about the excellent job that you and nixluva think Phil is doing.

It's not about anyone thinking Phil is doing an excellent job. The thing is the Media isn't allowing Phil to do this his way. They want him to do things their way. Phil actually had a very good offseason last year. He made some good moves and now he has to have another good offseason. How about we let him get thru it?

This is what I'm saying - the perception that Phil is an absentee President is going to make this off-season harder for the team to sign Free Agents.
Phil could be combating that by interviewing coaches and scouting for potential second round steals.... but he's on vacation in Montana.
It's allllll about perception. The NBA is still showbiz at the end of the day. This is a terrible start to the off-season for Phil.

That is all a Media creation!!! The players and agents are talking with the Knicks and always have been. That vacation angle has no impact on Free Agency.

and the cons out weigh the pros.
you want(we all want to believe) that since phil inherited 2 very good talented rosters and won 11 rings, that he has the ability to build a championship team. Phil knows what mind set, and what kind of team needed, but that's far from having the ability to put a team together from scratch, then find the right coach that's going to be 99% on the same page.
How does it look to overlook rambis and hire fisher who had zero experience, fire fisher 16 months later, let rambis finish the season in dreadful fashion, boot him out of the exit meetings, interview more qualified candidates, wait a month and then hire rambis anyway.
you know how retarded that looks, to the media, fans, and free agents.

I forgot about Rambis being kept out of the exit interviews with Phil and Mills.
Good catch.
That to me is another signal that whether Phil wants Rambis back or not - Mills (and his boss) are far more skeptical.

Dolan already stepped in before about the medical staff. Are you sure that Jimmer Fredette was a Phil move and not a Mills one? We really don't know.
I think Phil very publicly taking a vacation at one of the most crucial junctures of the off-season may actually be his way of protesting.

It's Phil's decision to make and I think as he always does, Phil is taking his time to really weigh the plus and minus of Rambis verses Vogel, Blatt etc.
and the cons out weigh the pros.
you want(we all want to believe) that since phil inherited 2 very good talented rosters and won 11 rings, that he has the ability to build a championship team.
I forgot about Rambis being kept out of the exit interviews with Phil and Mills.Good catch.
That to me is another signal that whether Phil wants Rambis back or not - Mills (and his boss) are far more skeptical.
Phil stipulated in his deal that Dolan not interfere and he be given final say in basketball matters. If Dolan was back involved Phil would walk.
Dolan already stepped in before about the medical staff. Are you sure that Jimmer Fredette was a Phil move and not a Mills one? We really don't know.
I think Phil very publicly taking a vacation at one of the most crucial junctures of the off-season may actually be his way of protesting.
I do not think all is rosy in Knicksland, as you seem to.
He was brought up immediately after the Knicks whiffed at the trade deadline. Almost a fan service move. Does that seem like something Phil would do?

If my memory is correct, he whiffed on every single move he tried to make and the Knicks did not make a trade, despite the fact they were desperately looking to upgrade the PG position.

I believe this as well. I don't think Blatt impressed and I also think he could be considering doing it himself, prior to Vogel being available. I'm assuming he'll speak to vogel before making a decision.
i agree as well with the exception that Phil wont' coach. I do suspect that whoever it is he will be more active at practices and with the coach but that's the extent of it.
I too think he's debating the merits of Rambis knowing the system etc vs. his "bleh" record. And he's also worried about getting a good, well-intended coach only to find out the new coach doesn't quite get it either or deeply enough and weighing the pros and cons
I'd like to think his "vacation" is mostly to have some space away from the NY media and hopefully he is meeting people in person as we speak

exactly right. It's called an upward evaluation. If you want candor the boss (in this case Rambis) can't know who made the comments.
Chandler wrote:I too think he's debating the merits of Rambis knowing the system etc vs. his "bleh" record. And he's also worried about getting a good, well-intended coach only to find out the new coach doesn't quite get it either or deeply enough . . .Yes, these are REAL concerns.
And Jackson needs a creative, think-outside-the-box solution.
I don't know what that would be.
But remember Mike Ditka's attempted solution for his quarterback problem in the 1980s (?)
I still hope we can see some kind of equivalent creativity from Jackson . . .

And please tell me how we'll ever know if Phil can build a championship team if he isn't given the chance to do it?? He's had ONE year of making additions to this team so either you think a championship team can be built in one year or you just don't want to give him the chance.

He's had two years of making additions to the team. The first year he traded Felton and Tyson Chandler for Jose Calderon and Samuel Dalembert.
I love the rose colored lens for Phil.
