In a "streetball" game in Greece, KP dropped 21 pts....
Thanasis dropped 69pts... Giannis, his little brother aka "the Greek Freak", scored 64pts.
Thank you for your time
It would be great if Thanasis came into his own this year. He's actually exactly what we need. And maybe Giannis would like to join him next year?
I know it's street ball but I played against similar competition.....x NBA vets and overseas pro tallent......69 pts is not easy. If he was on any other team like GS up and down style, we would have a thread on him as a free agent option. NY culture always make decent players look like scrubs, even though they are not. Pick any legit scrub u know and tell me he can score 69. He should be a rotational player on the second unit next year.

agree with all this, but he's gotta hit the jumper. Its like being in AAA and you cant hit the major league curve. EVERYONE can hit the #1. Thanasis is in elite crowd, but the NBA is another level of elite. He's gotta hit that jumper

I said this in another thread but the Knicks getting The Greek Freak is my all time FA dream. Kidd had him at PG this year. PG! And he killed it!
no idea why but I've always like Thanasis. Elite athleticism and an engine that doesn't stop. I LIKE the fact that he didn't get time with the Knicks this year, marinating and playing tons of minutes in the Dleague.

Feel the same way. I like him too. Exactly what you said -- the athleticism, the motor, the engaged defense and I dunno man, maybe I'm seeing things but to me he's actually a pretty serviceable offensive player out there too that should only continue to get better. I loved Gerald Wilkins, loved his athleticism/ability to slash at 6'6", play good D etc.--I see all the same qualities in Thanasis. I actually think TA could surpass Gerald in these areas, even with his jump shooting. Let's be honest -- Gerald's jump shot form was always messed up looking and the results were never really there, esp. early on in his career when he was a higher volume player. GW, as decent as he was, was never what you'd call a reliable jump shooter. I like TA's form much better. I think there's real good potential for a better overall version of Gerald Wilkins with TA--superior in all areas (I mean you never saw Gerald chase down fast breakers for blocks at the rim the way TA can do it). To me, that's saying something because Gerald was a pretty good overall player. A superior Gerald Wilkins is definitely a viable rotation player for us if you ask me, esp. if we succeeded in adding a few good offensive guards around him.
I think the Gerald Wilkins comparison is a good one. Still Gerald was a 19pt a game scorer for the Knicks one year. 17 another year. I think he averaged 14 his career with the Knicks. He was a damn good player. Thanasis has the shot to be that guy for us. It's not always about that damn 3pt shot. Thanasis can hit those. It's all about his basketball IQ. Thanasis problem is hee just passing the game hard with no idea as to what he's doing. I think he's finally ready to cross over to the big stage. Having him at the 2-3 would be like having Tony Allen or that kid that starts on OKC next to Westbrook. Becoming as good as Gerald Wilkins would be a godsend

Gerald wilkens would not have that much value in todays game.

You had said that once before. Why do you feel that way? I don't really agree. 6'6" supremely athletic, slashing guard who can play real good D and is capable of highlight reel plays on both ends of the floor. I think that = value. A guy we can put on a LeBron, a Paul George etc. for parts of a game who can also contribute something on the other end as well.

Why Cuz the NBA is modern now right?

He can potentially make a team but you can't have a two guard today who can't shoot. Tony Allen is an exception but he really hurt his team too since teams just ignore him on offense.

Disagree.....
That's like saying you can't have a power forward with no power.
Can't have a center who doesn't play in the post.
Can't have a point guard who wants to score.
You build a team around the talent you have. As long as you have a balance skill set as a team, it doesn't matter.

ok ... lets say he can be serviceable, does he have nearly the same value as in the non shooting hand checking 80's?
And lets not make believe he was ever considered a really good player.

Ate you kidding me? How old are you? Did you even see him play. He wasn't an Allstars but to say he'd be serviceable at the least is ridiculous. Can't take you seriously

Renaldo Balkman is a better comparison.
And I don't know that Thanasis has to develop a jump shot to stick - he just needs a chance to fill a role which could be impact energy off the bench.
I think the reason people say he needs a jump shot is we have so many other holes on the roster.
Maybe he needs to better develop his moves around the basket & in transition.
If he could shut down an opposing teams SF/SG, then he could probably play as long as their is an upgrade in offense elsewhere (e.g., swap out Calderon for Jennings, etc.)
