I think we'll have to go small a lot with KP at the 5, Melo at the 4.

We need to add some guards like Evan Turner, maybe Courtney Lee, who can play 2/3 and allow us to play smaller and faster.

If we could somehow get E.Turner, C.Lee and Seth Curry we would be absolutely set in our back court. E.Turner is a good defender who is good around 12-15 foot from the basket and can play 3 positions in the 1-2 and 3 and C.Lee and S.Curry can shoot the rock. I would be more than happy if we could come away with those three.

PG--S.Curry/J.Grant/T.Wroten
SG--E.Turner/C.Lee/T.Wroten
SF-Melo/E.Turner
PF-KP/Melo
C-Rolo/KP

If we could somehow also get D.Williams and L.Thomas to re-sign with us we would absolutely be a playoff team next season and could even make some noise in the playoffs and then in year two of that team with another $20 million with the cap rise and Calderon's $7 mil coming off the books and a 1st round pick.......Yes Please.

I think this can be close to how things look. Though I'm not sure why the continued obsession with Seth "Not Steph" Curry

I don't see why this would be difficult... our length should lead to rebounds which should lead to transition offense. Play good defense and hit the boards hard and there should be plenty of opportunity.
stanleybostitch @ 6/8/2016 4:19 PM
Don't forget Willy H. Him at the 5 and Kristaps at the 4 will be an interesting, and fast, pairing.
nixluva @ 6/8/2016 8:15 PM
JH never said we'd be a 100% speedball team. There will still be some half court ball. Just expect more uptempo and a gradual increase of athletic and fast players on the roster. RoLo can move more than fast enough to trail the play. This notion that RoLo can't run the floor is off base. He doesn't have to lead a break LOL.

We just need more fast guards n wings and we'll be fine.

Here's my take on the 2016 Free Agency Market:

*Go fast and hard for second or third tier shooters, rebounders, and (especially) 3 and D guys
*Overpaying for shorter deals that leave a max slot open for 2017-18 free agency and beyond is preferable
*Resist the temptation to make a splash in this narrow pool of free agent talent - that's as risky as it gets

Right on. Phuck this free agent class. GO BIG OR GO HOME in 2017!

Even if you strike out on the big dogs, the small dogs are better than the majority of the 2016 class.

I'm hoping the Wroten/Grant experiment works so the knicks can go after hayward. A Small Ball front court of Hayward/Melo/KP would give a lot of teams fits defensively.

I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to have Gordon Hayward on the Knicks. Just seems like one of those all around 2 way up and coming ball players that gets better and better each year.

Yep, I think it would be the kind of signing that would make the knicks legit contenders, while at the same time putting somebody next to KP who can be his long term running partner once Melo starts to fall off.

If they can just get some decent/good guard play from the guys they have under contract it will allow them to focus on improving elsewhere in 2017.

Hayward would be perfect.

How sad is it that Utah got him in 2010 with the last part of the Marbury trade?

Exactly. Gordon would be in the middle of his prime years 26-30, while KP would begin to start entering his. It would be a very smart signing. Of course, this is the Knicks we're talking about, so we'll probably end up with Taj Gibson or Paul Millsap who are exiting their careers soon...

All joking aside Phil has been pretty cognizant of KP's timeline. I suspect we'll see a couple of Bridge the Gap Vets who are young enough to still run with KP after Melo. We already know Phil is adding young players to try and develop along with KP.

We have a ton of question mark young players besides KP. Wroten, is he even NBA caliber? Grant, is he even a rotation player? Hernangomez, is he even ready for the NBA?

We need to TANK HARD to get that sure fire lottery talent in the 2017 draft. Next year's draft is supposed to be as star studded as it's also deep. We could potentially get our next Point Guard or Wing to play along side KP for the next decade. Loaded programs from Duke, Kansas, and Kentucky as well as overseas ensure this. Not like this craptastic 2016 draft with this Lebron wannabe that's projected at 1 with ZERO jumper. If there's a right time to tank for the Knicks, this would absolutely be the right time.

And I didn't even mention free agency class of 2017...Knicks better not sign anybody but band aid free agents for 1 year!!!!

mrcool @ 6/10/2016 12:39 AM
Willy if signed can actually play the 5 . Which can help transition. I think he will be a suprise like kristaps
nyknickzingis @ 6/10/2016 1:32 AM
I think we're going to see far more of KP at the 5, and more of Melo at 4.
We may start Lopez, Porzingis and Melo but our core lineup will be

5-Lopez or Porzingis
4-Melo
3-Thomas (if re-signed) or a vet wing Free agent signing
2-Grant or Galloway
1-Calderon or a vet PG free agent we sign

Looking at our situation Batum still makes a lot of sense because he can play the 3 and 2, and we can also rely on him for some ball handling and passing. Wroten, Galloway and Grant can help Jose at the point. May not be popular to say this, but I think Jose will be much more valuable on offense in Hornachek's quicker more spaced out triangle.

Jose looked pretty decent running high PnR when Fisher was deviating from the triangle, but with the actual PnR actions in the triangle he looked awful. I couldn't figure it out. I'm expecting a pretty similar lineup. JH seems pretty adaptable so I think he'll try to utilize his players in the best way possible as opposed to being stubborn and forcing players to play a certain style. If our guards prove capable I think we'll push the tempo but if they don't I think we'll stick with a slower pace. JH seems like a methodical guy so I expect that type of offense either way. One thing I'm really interested in that I haven't seen mentioned is how he'll utilize Melo. I'd like to see him move Melo around more using various screens instead of just throwing it to him 20 feet away all the time.

Tank Hard? You do realize that this isn't going to happen right? Phil didn't hire JH to come here and tank for a draft pick. This isn't Philly. The idea is to try and get proven NBA talent and develop young talent at the same time. This is what I was talking about. Just cuz those young players didn't all explode to success like KP in year one doesn't mean that they can't or won't develop into contributors for this team.

Heck Phil is yet again looking at young talent as he should. In every draft there are players later in the draft that become good NBA players so that is why you want to do due diligence and try to find quality even late in the draft or with UDFA's. Vet FA's will be key this summer but you still have to develop young talent that can be here to play with KP.
