Durant
Batum
Conley
DeRozan
All players I can see the Knicks offer a maximum contract to.
The max contract landscape has changed. A 25 million a year player is what used to be a 15 million a year guy. Melo who has been overpaid in my opinion even his contract will look much better in these next 2 years if he is still playing at his current all star level.
I'm happy about DWill, thought he was a great pick up at that price and showed his value in the bench role. He would thrive even more in a high tempo offense with primary and secondary breaks. He can push the ball himself in transition or run the floor and finish well in transition.
They didn't say which type of mac tier player

There's a two way Player that gets it done. He would complement Grant/Wroten/Galloway push the ball up the court, play lockdown D and lead this team to content with Cavs next year. If not in Boston then to LA KP/Rolo/KD/Bradley/Grant
Williams/Thomas/OQuinn/Wroten/Gallo

durant probably isn't coming to ny. Durante definitely isn't coming without Melo. Avery Bradley? That is worse than the article on the home page suggesting the Sixers will trade a first rounder for Jose for vet leadership and so they don't hit the cap floor. NEXT!
The only max player who makes sense is Mike Conley. Durant makes no sense.
I got in a protracted debate on another site with guy who wanted to get Duran, keep Melo and make KP a C. Even though Duran and Melo play the same position.

i think if durant ever did come here which is unlikely it would be more because of KP who durant was extremely impressed with

You do not max out a guy that only gives you 15 and 6 at the point guard spot. Just about every staying pg in the NBA can do that. He's the only established pg starter on the market. Let someone else over pay.

yeah since when did conley become a max player.

Couldn't agree more with you guys. No way you max out Conley or come even close to maxing him out, I don't care how much the cap went up.
Cant see Durant signing without Melo...

I think DWill opts out. I thought that the article was what the author wanted to happen. I can't imagine DWill playing for 4 mil next year with the cap going up so much. Also, I am not positive Afflalo opts out.

I agree. He called him the toughest cover in the nba.

If Afflalo does not opt out, it would disappoint a lot of Knicks fans here.
It's all about match ups last I checked. Bradley is a lock down defender and 1st team last I checked. He's a solid player and a meaningful upgrade to where we are now. We don't need to pay Conley $25 mm as he's in his down cycle already. So is Melo. He can no longer shoot as he has. Likewise KP and Durant are lights out shooters and having Melo creates a jam at either the 3 or 4. At 32 just what do you believe you can get for Melo? Fine Ainge would throw in a draft pick but you ain't getting much more for Melo.
There's no reason Melo and KD can't co exist. Sure a very good PG would possibly pair better but 2 shooters can play in the same offense. *cough* Golden State

Knicks would need a very good PG they can afford to make it work with two former scoring champions on the roster, and a budding franchise player to keep busy as well. One more reason to keep someone like Lopez who doesn't complain about touches.
Not against it, but it would be very important to find a PG smart enough to keep everyone on the same page. Dont care how much the Triangle is run, we would need a very solid PG with playoff experience. Doesn't have to be in his prime, just enough left in the tank for a couple of seasons while Grant and Wroten develop. Thats what the Knicks need even if Durant doesn't come here if we want to watch them make a run at the playoffs..

if KD did come here then I'd say NY would have a 55% chance of landing Paul the next summer.

Would be great, but could we afford them both? Wouldn't want a depleted roster to make it work.

They can both play SF or PF so not sure what you're talking about with the same position. Depending on who the other team puts on the floor at SF and PF is how you decide which spot KD and Melo will play.

If you guys want this team to get the right players to help us get anywhere close to looking like a championship team then we're gonna have to overpay for a certain player or two because if we don't then the next team will, it's how it is in the NBA right now. Is players like Conley, Batum or Derozan worth the max? Nope but if we want to win and be good enough to make any kind of run towards a championship then we'll need a player like that and all 3 will get that max or close to max elsewhere.
Unless you'd rather waste Melo's last 3/4 years and just be a team that will make the 7th/8th seed in the playoffs and lose in the 1st or maybe 2nd round every year until we can draft our way to being respectable. I'd rather go for it while we have Melo playing at his all star level and when Melo is gone we can then build around KP.
