Rajon Rondo was critical of his experience with the Sacramento Kings.Rondo will be a free agent again this offseason after signing with the Kings in 2015.
"There were too many distractions on and off the court. The organization as a whole, I don't think was together completely. I think as a team you have to want the best for the next man beside you, and that wasn't the case with the Sacramento Kings," he said.
Of DeMarcus Cousins' relationship with George Karl and his staff, Rondo said there was "a lot of tension at first."
"Too much tension. I've never witnessed or experienced a thing like that in my 10-year career," he said.
Rondo said he would "love to continue to play with" Cousins, but for that to happen, he and the Kings need to "come together and figure out if we can work, but if not, I'm always in, I'm open. I'm open this summer and I look forward to having a great career."
As for his free-agent options this summer, Rondo said, "I want to see myself in a situation where guys want to grow, guys want to get better. I don't want to be the hardest-working guy in the gym."

I agree all the way. I wanted him last off-season, but I think it is way more likely now with Jeff Hornacek at coach with his PG friendly tactics, rather than Fisher, whom Rondo despised.

Not saying Fisher was fired because of sniping at Rondo, but I think it may have been a part of Phil's feelings that he wasn't right for the job.
It'd be kind of ironic if Phil signed Rondo five months after firing Fisher, given the exchange Fish and Rondo had in February. Rondo also changed his tune on the Triangle after Fisher was fired.

I also think Rondo playing at a high level is a higher impact player than Conley playing at a high level.

With the cap exploding, should "cheaper" mean as much as it once did? What could we use those savings on that would justify picking the inferior player?
I use to like Rondo but there simply has been too much that has gone on with him to make me stake my franchise's future on his ability to perform. When you combine that with his inability to shoot, he becomes an easy pass for me. I throw the max at Conley and see if a franchise that has been cheap, matches. If they do, we need to consider holding out for CP3 in 2017.

Not to mention that we don't have the type of leadership necessary to corrall him. The only way I'd bring him abroad is if it came with a massive discount and if we knew that CP3 might be disgruntled in LAC. The one guy who'd take a flier on Rondo is Doc Rivers, so I could see how all this could coalesce into a midseason trade before CP3 would hit the market.

This is like people saying we needed to sign LaMarcus Aldridge last summer. It had no basis in reality. Some dudes were saying the Knicks should sign Draymond Green and Danny Green and Jimmy Butler. Sure they were nice players, but we were never getting them.
We can get Rondo.
Knicks need a point guard. JH has said Knicks need a lead guard. Rondo is a very very good one who has led the league in assists three times (including this season!), won a ring, four time all-star, two time NBA all defense first team, two time second team all defense.
He's an excellent point guard who loves the spotlight, likes Melo, we have a PG friendly coach, a team of guys who put in the work like Rondo was hoping for... it is certainly worth investigating.

...but why ia CP3 unrealistic? There have been a flurry of rumors about how he doesn't vibe well with Griffin and Jordan. And considering how stacked the West is, it'd make all the sense in the world to come East especially to a team that has a close friend on it whose game figures to match well with his own.

BTW, his shooting % is high because he penetrates effectively and shoots close to the basket.

From Kings fans:
Strength: Provided leadership on and off the court. Showed Cousins how to prepare for games, watching film, ect.Weakness: None. From a fans perspective attitude wise Rondo was a true professional towards the team and coaches. As for what happened behind closed doors I can't answer.
The worst thing about Rondo not coming back would be missing his leadership. He was probably the most professional King last year. Outside of that incident with Kennedy of course. :(I don't know where Cousins stands now, but he was fairly vocal about Rondo being re-signed about mid way through last season.
Rondo's Dallas problem was completely related to Carlisle. Carlisle didn't want to give Rondo any control of the offense and that made him mad. Here in SAC, George Karl gave Rondo free reign, so Rondo was happy. If you want to predict Rondo's attitude on your team, just think about how much freedom your coach would be willing to give him.

But that's one season fishmike. I'm not sure the sample size is enough to say that he can now shoot the ball with any regularity. And his struggles at the free throw line only compound my suspicions. Like I said, I use to be a big fan of Rondo's but the Kings are his 2nd go-round with a team that was filled with drama and resulted in a .500 or worse record despite having talent on his roster. If I brought him in, I wouldn't consider it a building block....just a placeholder for someone else.

I don't consider him a building block either. Until proven otherwise Grant is that player and I am still very high on him. However Rondo immediately moves the needle and if you simply replace Jose with Rondo in the starting line up we are playoff team. That is my goal. I want to build up the youth part of this roster over the next few seasons, but I want to make the playoffs while we do it. There is no reason with Lopez/Melo/KP this shouldn't be a playoff team. I want our young guys in the playoffs every year.
