Knicks · Offer Fournier the Max on Day 1 (page 1)

Assuming both Afflalo ($8 mil) and Williams ($4 mil) opt out, Knicks will have $30 million in cap space. max for players based on experience breaks down as follows:

2016-17 ($92M) 2017-18 ($108M)
0-6 years $21.56M $25.31M
7-9 years $25.88M $30.38M
10+ years $30.19M $35.44M

team's biggest need is on the perimeter at the 2/3. while our PGs may not be good, we at least have guys who can play there (Calderon, Grant, Wroten, presumably Galloway as well).

Fournier is 23 yrs old. he can guard either 2 or 3 at 6'7 but handles the ball, attacks the hoop and runs the PnR with ease. post all star break once Skiles started playing him consistently he averaged 18-3-3 on 49% FG, 40% 3, 85% FT. a max for him would start at $21.56 mil per the table above, and would leave us room to sign another 1-2 players.

here's a nice video of him against the vaunted Spurs D and Kawhi

seeing how the cap jumps in 2017-18, he'd be a bargain in years 2-4 of the deal. we'd also sign a guy for his prime years for a change.

of course Orlando could match, but would be nice to put the pressure on a team for a chance. they had buyer's remorse last year with Tobias and promptly dealt him this year, and they have Oladipo coming up next season, and Elfrid Payton and Hezonja on rookie deals. force them to at least match and put themselves in tricky cap situation moving forward.

Evan's the guy.

he's great, but no way they don't match. Tobias being the prime example... you don't let value like that walk, even if its crazy cost. Also Orlando has a long history of losing talent. No way they pass on a chance to retain him.

I get your gist, and its a good player to target, I just cant see this as feasible.

I agree but it could come down to what they do in the draft and free agency. Plus, Vogel may like Oladipo over Fournier which could leave him at the 3, where he didn't play as well or as a max'd out back up if they play Mario at the 3.

I'm afraid the only way you get him is to add a trade kicker in his deal and

When AA was in Magic before trading back to Denver, Frounier was in bench. I am not sure if Frounier is an upgraded.

Fournier would be a good look. I doubt Derrick opt out and the Knicks seem like they don't have a problem with him.

I like him but no way I max him out.

Interesting article by a former exec on what makes a max player.

Id love to snag Fournier but the problem is then our cap space is on hold while ORL takes the full 3-4 days whatever it is only to match it in the end and we miss out on all the other free agents.

Isn't he a prime example of an average player looking good on a bad team?
