Sup Knicks fam. New user here...been lurking for the last few weeks and decided to jump into the fray.
I like the D.Rose deal. Short term risk for a year. Worst case he stinks up the joint and we go into next offseason ready to load up. Flip side, he balls out of his mind and we have a respectable PG finally. Even if he repeats last year's numbers it's better than what we had, and I like the fact that we aren't going to commit long term to guys like Rondo and Conley who I think aren't bringing us where we want to go anyway.
That being said...how willing are you to put KP at the 5 if we have a shot at landing guys like Batum/DeRozan? I think KP is destined for the 5 but right now I'm not sure I want to risk putting him there because at the end of the day he is the future of our franchise.

I don't think KP is ready to play the five full time yet. I think we need someone there who can play some minutes. Maybe it's Hernangomez, maybe it's Noah. But some of our best lineups last year were KP at the 5 and Melo at the 4 and that's certainly a look we'll see this year.
We need a real SG, but we also need a backup PG at this point. I'm shocked we waived Wroten.
I think we need to sign two guards and a center with the $33M or so we have.

Need a decent big rental for just this year, not Hernangomez, he's not ready. Need someone to start 1st and 3rd quarters to spare KP banging against bigger guys.
Any decent big, that can play 15-20 minutes will do, as Horny will employ alot of small ball lineups with KP at the 5.

I def agree. Noah seems to be that guy. He's got something to prove and we can get him on the cheap. Maybe a 2 year deal with the 2nd year being a team option.
Fill out the wing spots with quality guys and let's give it a shot this year.
I've thought about the possibility that Hornachek might see him as a 5 in this version of the NBA.
You would then need a bruiser type 4 who can clean up the boards and do the dirty things.
Lopez was a grinder down low, and he had a bit of an attitude. I was pretty happy with how he seemed to develop during the year in terms of his inside game. The guy played when he was not at 100% and gave the Knicks a double headed shot blocking front line, which might have been unique in the NBA.
Noah would be a nice replacement if he could stay healthy, but there is no way you could count on him, IMO.
I figure that they start KP at the 4, and use him at center every now and then.

NO, we need to get Noah who can hold the spot down for a few years and allow KP to still play some minutes there.

Gasol could be great as a center in Hornecek's system since he can shoot. The Knicks have a collection of Centers who can do minutes at the 5. I think they just need somebody to fill the position.

Can't see Jackson wanting him, but then again the Rose trade surprised me.

notice my focus was on opposing FG%. If KP couldn't guard centers last year how is the system going to change that this year? Post players scored at will on KP. Will KP improve? Of course, but you are immediately asking him to do a whole lot being the only big on the floor and last year he showed opposing bigs could really take advantage if they had a post game. Putting KP at the 5 is not setting him up for success based on everything we saw last year

The Knicks will be signing a center this off season so KP will not be the full time center next year. The reason why i have J.Noah and A.Horford at the top of my list is because both can play the 4 and the 5 which will be good cause we can play them at the 4 some and put KP at the 5 while on the court together just to get him more adjusted.

When did Hornacek say the system is gonna be entirely different?? He never said that and is actually gonna be running some triangle.
I think Joakim Noah on a one-year deal or a one and one for little money is the ideal signing, or Pau Gasol. Horford is a max player so I want no part of that right now.
NO. KP is not physicaly mature enough yet to take the nightly beatings. The idea that you dont need a center in this NBA is misplached. Even GS had two centers in Bogut and Festili, OKC had two in Adams and Kanter. Cleveland had a big bodied four in Thompson backed up by Mosgov. Leave KP at four and surround him with a complement. Ill throw Horford's name into the mix as he does a little bit of everything and problably fits Hornachek move to a quicker style . There was little mention of losing Lopez with talk allabout Rose and sights set on plans beyond but thought Robyn did a really good job at a fair price and KP benefitted by playing next to him so I cant give this trade a rubber stamp. Im hoping that this is a move designed for 17 rebuild with Westbrook the target otherwise I question whether this was the right trade
Lets take Batum and Derozen off the table this year. WE got DRose.
where we were to spend on guards, we still need some, but bigger priority on bigs.
Howard, Noah, Pau..........Obviously Noah and Pau come with some "simpatico" where Dwight comes with some heavy baggage.
I think PHil should interview him, and see if this man/child has matured to the point where he knows his place in life, where his ego is at, and what his price is.
Can't imagine his agent would have him turn down $24mil if he didn't feel there was justification for it. Where is he in terms of accepting his legacy and role of being part of an ensemble cast of players where "You are not going to be the man"!
This team, in my opinion is all about KP. Noah conceptually is great, but he is far more rickety than Drose.
Front line of Melo, KP and Howard is freaking scary.
ON the other hand, Durant might be interesting.
I saw another article suggest bringing back Mozgov via trade... we keep trading with Clev and we can start a Championship shrine for all former Knick title winners... Frye, Shump, JR, Mozgov... probably more I can't recall
Guessing that Knicks will go hard after Derozan or Durant and sign a big like Noah to full in the gap as caretaker at the 5 until KP is ready.

The 82Games numbers are all over the place. It is really hard to make a specific statistical analysis, except that our starting lineup with Calderon was terrible.
