Clippers just seem to be a treadmill to nowhere with some of these contracts.

I could see CP3 leaving next summer at this rate.

djsunyc @ 7/3/2016 8:08 PM
raptors have clippers lotto protected pick next year. let's hope they are battling for the 7th/8th seed in the west :)

Wow, these contracts are so much higher than I expected. Rolo's contract really was a bargain. I thought we slightly overpaid at the time.
yellowboy90 @ 7/3/2016 8:22 PM
Rivers and Jackson really have a lot in common. However, Rivers and Divac might be the two worst FO minds in the business.

A lot of these contracts are being made with the knowledge that the cap will be $110m heading into next season and beyond thru the end of the new tv deal. $110m is literally double the cap from 2010 when Amare got $100m. In terms of 2017 cap percentage, Amare's would be $200m if he signed it next summer.

So you really need to cut these deals in half to get a sense of how they'd be equivalent to recent years. In 2010, Courtney Lee's deal would be about $25m over four years at the same cap percentage. Noah's deal would be 4yrs $36m. Conley would be 5yr $77m - much less cap percentage wise than Amare got.

It's not really "too much money" - the league economics have drastically changed. Especially when you realize that in 2010 a $55m cap was based off 50% of the overall league revenue. In 2017 the $110m cap is based off 44% of the revenue. The revenue for the league is soaring. Thank god the players get to partake and it doesn't all just go to the owners.

Yeah those are good points. We should have locked as many decent players into long-term contracts as possible last off-season instead of giving out those 1 year deals to AA and Williams

We did that fot Lopez. Afflalo and Williams decided to gamble and it paid off. Credit their agents.

If you locked up AA we would still be stuck with him. Can't forecast the future. DWill would've been good to have locked up, AA not so much. I kinda wish we had given DWill O'Quinn's contract instead of locking him up long term.

I think Lance will be a Knick. Knicks can go over the cap to re-sign Lance and Langston to the "league average salary". Knicks actually got a little lucky with Lance's injury last season. If he had played a full season that well he would definitely be gone elsewhere. I think Lance and Langston are back. I think DWill is 50/50.

Also, it sounds like the Knicks are trying to move KOQ to create an additional $4m in cap room. If they renounce DWill and move KOQ, that'd give them about $9m to sign a backup PG. maybe split it over two players.

I recall a lot of you guys making the same point last year, when people were gasping at the huge $$$ being thrown at second tier FAs such as Lopez or Afflalo and reclamation projects such as DWill. I thought those were silly moves at the time, that big $$$ should had been spent only on game changing talent. You were right. I was wrong, though mainly in terms of what constitutes big $$$.

Had not thought of it that way...wonder if Williams even would have taken that kind of contract?

We would all be patting Phil on the back if it had turned out this way given each player's performance...or in KOQ's case, non-performance.

As some initially predicted, even Carmelo Anthony's contract is now a bargain compared to what others are getting paid.

Shocking how good the Lopez contract looks now, more so because we saw that he was more than a serviceable center.

Wish we had not given Williams the option, too.
