Evey move is always on Phil.... but Phil is all about letting guys do their jobs and Steve Mills is the GM.... he's the guy with the experience and the connections within the nba and the agents. He's the business guy. He's always right next to Phil at every announcement... nobody cares what he had to say but I believe he's doing alot of great work for us. It's not all about Phil all the time. He's not just Dolan's guy. He should get some credit.
Agreed....
However, I would not trust him on his own once Phil does leave.
Mills is learning under Phil and he does have certain skills that are needed to be a good GM. I believe the team will be in good hands after Phil finally leaves. We know he does a lot of the leg work and Phil does the overall vision.
Mills has been here for years. Honestly, some of these moves bear more the fingerprints of Mills than Phil... he's Dolan's most trusted guy, for better or worse. He's doing good work with Phil right now though.
Hopefully Mills has evolved and grown as a gm. His previous tenure was brutal and I thought he had no business being brought back. He appears to be doing good work this time.
is worth noting what a fantastic job with the cap the Knicks did. Signing Lee/Noah were the big ones. Fine. Being crafty to get Lance locked up and Jennings as well was a great job. Those kinds of players are huge and make your team better. Lance at that discount was a coup.
It's a great business relationship. Mills helps Phil with the business and Phil overseas the basketball aspect. When we win a championship they will highlight that fact for all time. Dream big

And it sounds like a Steve Mills influenced deal
You guys forget that they got two previous GMs(Warktein-Former GM of the Yr & Grunfeld-in a consultant role) on the payroll...not sure if John Gabriel is still there, but that would make it 3....plus Phils own personal GM/talent evaluator in Gaines...
So Mills does get a bunch credit, but you have guys grinding behind the scenes.

I've often mentioned this in the past and it was poo pooed by some. The Knicks do have very capable people in the front office. They are respected people. This summer's moves back that up cuz this was well executed.
Has Screeming "A" chimed in yet?
I give Phil credit for Noah and Rose and give mills credit for the other moves.
Does anyone have any actual real information about concrete things Mills has done? Or are you just getting a feeling about it? I'd be happy to praise mills if I knew he actually did something. Unfortunately all I know for sure was that when he was running things previously the knick front office made some horrendous decisions and deals. If you know something I don't please let me know so I can change my impression of the guy. I always assumed that Dolan forced Jackson to keep mills.

How so?? I'd love to hear how you could come up with a Mills kind of move when there's nothing to go on?? I guess you're just assuming.

How does it sound like a Steve Mills influenced deal cause i don't get how anyone knows what a Steve Mills deal is??
I gave Mills credit for all he does behind the scenes with helping Phil days ago but i'm not understanding how anyone can say a signing or trade looks like a S.Mills type of deal.

Yes i'm pretty sure people are just going off of a feeling. S.Mills hasn't ever been a personnel guy cause he's always run the MSG operations department so he's a operations guy not a personnel guy.
Its going to take a hell of a lot more to make me forget that Mills gave us Isiah and all the misery that followed. When Mills does something (provable)that changes the direction of this franchise, I will be happy to praise him.
