Yes - it stands to reason, that if you want to go to a new team, don't decimate that new team via trade.
Look, Durant didn't demand a sign and trade MAX from OKC to GS. This is the new stuff. He could have said to trade Barnes and Bogut to OKC so he could sign for 5 year max (not taking into account the new contracts coming next year).
With the Melo trade, yes, we got him, but he was coming here anyway.
It's the same thing with Russell Westbrook - hope we DO NOT trade for him. If he wants to come here, sign him outright. Although, ROSE is likely better for this team than RUSS. RUSS upset Durant and is one of the reasons DURANT left. Maybe the chemistry between RUSS and MELO may not be good.
Hope ROSE is healthy, otherwise, go get CP3 next year. Better for chemistry than Russ in my opinion.
