I don't know, I get fans don't believe he has a high ceiling, but he's a high character guy, and has been thrust into a bigger role he was likely ready for. In a world where the 26th draft pick gets over a mil, that seems pretty conservative.

He rebounds very well for a guard. Hard worker. Had some moments. His shooting went in the wrong direction as the year went on. Never thought he made it to an average defender. Decision making not good on either end.
He was a min guy last year, didn't move much above that.

I don't think Phil would insult him with that kind of money. He's been a good citizen and done a lot of the dirty work in our backcourt.
His shot really dropped off after a great start last year.
Maybe something gets worked out, but who knows what Phil is thinking or considering.

It's interesting that many people did not seem outraged that Lance Thomas got $6m but would be outraged if Gallo received that much. Why is that? Is it because Lance Thomas had a good shooting year? Every where else Gallo outperforms him. He rebounds better. passes better, has less turnovers, more blks, a better WS/48,VORP,& BPM. Gallo's problem last year was he shot too many mid range shots(Triangle) and did not make them at a high enough percentage. The year before he shot nearly the same amount of shots from >16-3pt and made 43.4%(vs.27.6%). He also so dipped slightly in his 3pt shooting but he shot more threes this year than the year before. The right coach would lower his mid range shots and increase his 3PAs. This with more improvement would make gallo even more of a still. He is a usefull rotation player now but could grow into an cheap above average combo guard. Jennings will be gone next year and Holiday may not even be good so the knicks need a player like Gallo for depth going forward on top of their need this year.
Like I mentioned in another thread. E'twaun Moore received $8m a year and he is on par and maybe below Gallo.

They made him into a PG/lead guard, which is not his natural position.
I always felt that he burned himself out playing D against quick PGs, and that hurt his shooting. I think he would be at his best as a 15-20MPG shooting guard who spends a lot of time on the perimeter.

Yeah - like I said, I would be down to give him $6M for one year and hope he bites. Can we do a one and one deal with him as an Early Bird FA?
I would feel more comfortable with our backcourt if Langston was in the mix. Last year was the first time he played 82 games. His first season was really only 40 games or so. It may be that he just hit the rookie wall with his shooting. Maybe he can have a more consistent season shooting in his second go round at 82 games. If he can shoot 42% from 3 the whole season, he gets a lot more valuable.
I still remember that game in San Antonio the Knicks almost won. It felt like the game was slipping out of hand, Knicks down 8 or some and Lang got two quick steals that he took down for layups, one was an And One, kept them in the game.
In a lot of ways, Langston and Lance feel like the heart of the team. They're certainly the first two guys Phil brought in who stuck. Maybe Phil has a sort spot for him? We shall see.

By Randle playing the last two games and running the point (taking the pressure off him), it has allowed Baker to slip back into his comfortable role of being an off guard and he has excelled. He is a knock down spot up shooter and a strong on the ball defender with active hands. Now we are able to see Baker's real game thanks to Randle.

Now that he's comfortable not having to run the point, he is showing a smooth shooting stroke and a potential catch and shot player. Baker can get better at making simple plays at guard. He may never be a lead guard but having decent passing and playmaking ability is useful in the Triangle so I suspect he will improve to some degree over time.
Randle looks like a very good fit for how Hornacek wants to play. He's showing that already. I'm hoping he makes the roster. This would be the best group of guards we've had in I don't know when. Rose, Lee, Jennings, Baker and Randle is pretty darned good. There's a lot of ability in that group.
