The 3 oldest Knicks are Melo (32), Noah (31) and Courtney Lee (30)....
Everyone else is 28 years old (Lance Thomas) and younger...
Kristaps Porzingis is the youngest at 20 years old.
Let's build some shit!
That's what has irked me about the whole NY traded for Rose and signed Noah - look they are doing what they always do which is go for big names.
They not only are far from old. They are also not a star studded team. They have role players galore - Lee, Noah, Thomas in particular - who will offset the ball dominance/usage rates of Melo and Rose.
The likely top 9 rotation will be
Noah 31
Porzingis 20
Melo 32
Lee 30
Rose 27
Jennings 26
Thomas 28
Holiday 28
Kuzminskas 26
This is an average age of 27-28 years old.
its perfect it really is. You have the young 27 year old corner stone. Hopefully Willy looks like a legit prospect.. keep winning, keep building
Also, next year they have a first and second round pick so the transition that will eventually happen can continue.

hernangomez will see minutes. if i were the coach i would be putting the brittle players on a minutes restriction this year. since a title is out of the question the next best thing is to stay healthy and make the best use of the money spent while we continue to develop a winner. these guys are not of much use in street clothes so hornacek must take the spurs/popovich route
noah 26 minutes
rose 26 minutes
melo 28 minutes
kp6 28 minutes
lee 32 minutes
that's 140 minutes for the starters and 100 bench minutes
hernangomez 16/kp6 6 at the center
jennings 22
thomas 16 for melo
thomas 12 for kp6
holiday 16
kuzminskas 12
that's how i see things shaking out for now

That sounds very reasonable. Fisher and Rambis did not do that though and in the moment tended to overplay guys and not play the younger players. Hopefully Hornacek has a better handle on things but if a game is close I think he probably relies on his vets.
I agree but we all know Melo is going to get at least 33-35 mins
i agree. this is NOT an old team

three starters have had significant injury issues the last several seasons. you cannot ignore that. if you mete out the minutes in keeping with their propensity for breaking down you will stand a better chance of their playing closer to 80 games than 50 or 60, thus getting more value out of their contracts.

I understand the fact that both Rose and Noah have had recent injuries that make their deals risky, but people should also understand that so many players have a history of injuries that would make them look risky too. Its part of the game. Are they healthy now? ok, then let's go to war.

There are ways to limit minutes in total without limiting minutes per game. I'm sure JH will work to limit minutes per game and total for the season. He wants to play uptempo and I suspect he knows players will need rest and a good sub pattern to keep fresh.

as he should.. but as an average I would like to see his minutes go down. The hope is we have more games where guys can rest a bit. I know we aren't GS, but there should be games we can really be light in how many minutes Melo/Rose/Noah log.
I suspect early on JH will lean on his vets a bit more, than hopefully integrate more parts when we establish a style of play.

i agree. im concerned with the injury history...not their age.

If the style of play is going to be as up-tempo as JH is hyping it to be, the minutes will have to come down for all the starters, KP included. Staying healthy is going to be more key than it ever has been, and I don't think Melo is going to have much say in it if he's not walking up the court and spending 15 seconds of the shot clock jab stepping and waiting for Jose or Sasha or someone to be open. Things are going to speed up all over the place.
This is a really new era. Thank you Phil.
JimmieD, money well spent.

bros it's a trend. if by "go to war" you mean "make them play 36 minutes a night" you are trying to buck the trend or quite simply beat the odds. it would be a gamble and i don't believe this coming season is one where you would gamble. and gambling is not a good longer-term strategy.
and yes, although the point guards are both on potentially one and done deals and have a lot to prove, that doesn't mean we are forced to play them more minutes than their bodies can handle. knees, achilles tendons, feet, shoulders... you understand what i mean. there's a collective breakdown potential here, or more likely a sequential breakdown, which would mean we'd never see them all on the floor at the same time "at full strength."
The lets go to war post is just bravado if the Knicks players are saying the same things. Most of us play sports and the older ones know that you have to measure your game and intensify at the right time. JH better settle down Noah at the right times otherwise he might get T'd up or injured. To me, he's the most volatile player on the team now and that must be controlled

This team doesn't have the depth to weather to many injuries, its a very top heavy roster. Other than Jennings this bench is filled with borderline rotation, not rotation players.
