Then I doubt we trade Melo for him in a package--we just went all in basically retooling this roster around Melo, no? Can never say never here though I guess--getting Gay back in a Melo trade + some young assets has always been a Melo trade scenario I've thought about... The money (absorbing his salary) also makes no sense right now--that's true. Plus we just loaded up on SFs behind Melo (Kuz, LT, N'Dour) -- I mean if there's one position I feel pretty good about right now, it's SF.Speaking of Mo N'Dour, I'm real intrigued by this guy, I mean REAL INTRIGUED. Watching him just throwing Tristan Thompson's shot back at him in that 6-block Canada/Senegal clip -- I mean WOW
. TT's a legit NBA big and no slouch. I wonder what this guy could be eventually -- a souped up Al-Farouq Aminu/a more kinetic Taj Gibson with a better slash game, even better D (shot-blocking) and more range on the jump-shot maybe?? Who knows...I think it's possible this guy could give us more overall than Kuz or LT in a backup role. Maybe more than O'Quinn (maybe that's where he get minutes)..Dying to see N'Dour matched up against a LeBron James, a Paul George, etc.. Hopefully he'll earned a spot on the roster by then and is in the rotation. So interested to see if he can guard stud wings like that and then take it to them on the other end as well. Also looks like a guy that, despite the lack of girth, can also guard the post too with that length and athleticism (I remember his length giving Jahlil Okafor a lot of problems in SL last year). If he really is that versatile--man, what an X-factor he could be for us.
If N dour continues to improve on his 3pt shot, DEFENSE, and maybe some sorta of handles/post moves...
I was thinking the same thing about N Dour, if he can develop to be a player similar to how Aminu progressed with versatility/length/athleticism
Blazers got a steal for Aminu at 8m per year on a 4year deal, which we would have signed him along with buying low on a player like Jae Crowder
If u can team these defenders up with TOP TIER DEFENDERS like Lebron James/Kawaii/Draymond Green, Butler etc, their effects would multiply with the versatility/switches needed in todays NBA game
While I would not give up a 1st rounder in this upcoming draft, a future 2018 1st rounder or 2nd rounders could work, also if Kyle O Quin and/or Cuz's value grows highly as the season progresses due to the years/salaries left on the contracts
I have always been a fan of Rudy Gay, he once was a HUGE SG and now got MUCH BIGGER and is probably closer to a stretch 4 in today's NBA, though he doesn't have the same speed/quickenss he once had due to his injuries and bulking up, Langston Galloway IMO bulked up a bit too much too...
Rudy Gay's contract in todays NBA salary is a bargain, however, he has a player option next year, so he basically would be possibly a rental
Along with contracts that were once MAX CONTRACTS like Bledsoe/Brandon Knight are GREAT contracts now that are would only be enough to lure a solid bench player to questionable starter in todays market
We will NOT have the Bi Annual Exemption next year, so we will have to decide what will be doing with Derrick Rose at some point (of course Westbrook will be the #1 target with every other team in the league)
However, if are happy with our roster, trading for Rudy Gay allows us to go over the cap and have the FULL MLE to use
There are also some solid talents we could use on the Kings roster as well, from Collison, Ben Mclmore, Casspi and their young prospects
If all goes well, this year, would we be open to extending Rose's contract on a cap friendlier deal (not a Mike Conley like deal in the range of about 20m per year as well as Gay, Justin Holiday with his early bird rights? Along with our 1st rounder next summer, 2nd rounders, and our young undrafted talents to continue to build on?
Could we send Sasha Vuvevic out for salaries, assuming he will be cut, and bring him back as a development coach?
A combination of Kyle O Quin or/and Cuz, with some vet mins will likely be enough for salary purposes..
it would come down to asking price, along with Rudy Gay signing an extensions, in addition to how we are doing this year in terms of health/chemistry, and play off run/what seed etc...
Teams above the cap (or teams below the cap but would end up more than $100,000 over the cap following a trade) cannot acquire more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary they trade away. Under the 2011 CBA, teams that remain below the luxury tax threshold even after the trade can acquire the lesser of 150% plus $100,000, or 100% plus $5 million, of the salary they trade away.[6] There is no lower limit—teams may divest themselves of as much salary as they wish (or can convince another team to take on) in a trade.

So basically in the range of about 6m to about 7m in salaries, which isn't very hard to do with Kyle O Quin or/and our Derrick Williams
Courtney Lee was once considered as an average rotational player and he got 12m per year and was considered a BARGAIN
He can be viewed as a JR Smith (without the drama but lower BB IQ, but certainly has advantages with his versatile/athletic/length and skill sets (could allow him to be a good defender if around our veteran presence with Noah and the culture we are looking to build starting with our additions this summer..)
He surely would be an upgrade over Derrick Williams
he took a "paycut" to sign a 3year extension with The Kings, as they were unable to attract talents/draft properly around Cousins, drafting multiple SG busts year after year, and the mess with the coaching
I think it is pretty safe to say that Cousins will eventually leave The Kings and they know it, that is why they drafted so many BIGS
They have been a mess since the Webber/Peja years and likely will have to do a full blown rebuild again...
