if Phil was coaching I think they do this... but there is no effing way a disciple of Jerry Sloan takes on that migraine... I doubt this happens
PHil took on headcases before in Artest and Rodman, but these guys were known for their defense.
Is Lance a lock down defender?

Everyone keeps saying that but where's the proof?
I would sign him for the minimum. And any issues he has, or if he isn't a perfect teammate at any given time, i cut him.
We really need JR Smith 2? Does it bother anyone he's lasted this long in free agency?
I cannot believe Phil's going to saddle a completely brand new team, with a brand new coach, with a headcase and documented locker room malignancy to fill in the backcourt on the second team.
Lance would have huge chip on his shoulder, and anything I've ever or seen about him points to that not being a good thing.
Pass.
Unless of course, Lance could become the next 40 page Toney Wroten thread.

What?
Exactly
Have to assume that:
Headcase=Lockdown defender
There seems to be a buzz about Lance going to the Knicks for a one year minimum today on twitter. No national guys are saying it but a lot of lesser known guys are tweeting it.

They're tweeting it wrong. This is entirely fabricated.
A search will find you something like this.

According to Morning News USA, the New York Knicks are close to signing the six-foot-five guard
Except when you follow the link to the source story, you get this...
http://www.morningnewsusa.com/new-york-k...
Which in no way says the Knicks are close or even considering signing him.
This is bad sourcing/can't read very well internet telephone game.

Thanks for researching. I went to the Inquisitor article but couldn't link to the MOrning News USA.

You can almost set your clock to this stuff. Soon as i saw your post, I said this is going to trace back to a speculative article from a content farm suggesting the Knicks could or should sign him.
And sure enough...

He's like anthony Mason at the shooting guard spot. He would be a threat to Lee and Holiday in the back court. That could be a good or bad thing. So I might not work for us.... but I do like the idea of putting Lance in there off the bench. Lance still has the potential to overtake Courtney Lee in the back court. Is interesting
Lance is 25 years old and he has been on 4 teams already. Played well in Indy, not so well in Charlotte and the Clippers, improved in Memphis. So he's a 50/50 risk and the upside isn't worth the risk in my opinion. Sure, he could be 2012-13 JR Smith or he could be 2014-15 JR Smith. I don't trust the dude to be an asset which explains why he's still a free agent.
I like Lance, but I agree with this post...
As much as I have (at times) admired the "w-reckless" abandon he brings to games, and the skill he has, he's just too much of an unknown chemistry-wise to risk it. He can be a game changer at times, but he's also a lunatic at times. I doubt Phil wants to gamble on that sort of persona, even with Rose and Melo there.
But he could certainly help us, particularly on D.

in other words its a done deal
You know what -- on the talent alone, get this done. This guy's a steal on a 1-yr deal for the minimum. Big/strong, skilled, an extra ball-handler (article I read mentioned he's actually better with the ball in his hands making plays than playing off the ball--I can definitely see that), can play 3 positions, plays with intensity, good defender, a guy we could put on LeBron like that article mentioned and JR Smith too -- I still remember how he completely outplayed Smith in that playoff series against Indy a few years ago. Completely took Smith right out of it (he's the type of guy that can get in guys' heads -- wasn't there a little thing going on between he and Smith over a girl during that series? When looking at the Cavs, I think he can matchup against 'Bron, I could see him completely neutralizing JR Smith all over again in a matchup, and he's better than Iman Shumpert imo). He'd be great insurance at the 1, 2 & 3--maybe even a guy who earns PT right off the bat by outplaying a Jennings, a Holiday, a Lance Thomas, an N'Dour, a Kuz, etc. in pre-season (also on paper, he's a much better option over Sasha V--to me, that's not even close). He's got a lot of qualities Phil supposedly likes in a guard. I'd be willing to take a chance on any immaturity issues there might be--I think we have more than enough of a veteran presence/star power to keep him in line and focused. Any problems, for the small monetary investment, you cut him at any time and move on. I really like the idea the more I think about it. I say we take the chance here. I wonder if this really has any legs..

I keep thinking about Lance at the 3, Melo at the 4 and Porzingis at the 5 with some combo of Lee, Rose, Jennings or Sasha in the back court.

That could be straight up murder. Lance has got a lot of talent. And not only talent, he also has what it takes within to go stand toe to toe against the best players in the NBA..This isn't your typical 15th man. On a team that's been suddenly transformed into a win-now team that has a chance to make some real noise this upcoming season the more you think about this squad, he makes sense. Real quality versatility and insurance at 3 positions with a chance to earn an even more important role than that. Are we even interested? Is Lance? He'd be coming in behind other guys at the moment but with the talent to beat guys out for PT provided Hornacek keeps a fair and open mind. Will he take the vet minimum? Probably all we can offer..
SupremeCommander wrote:if Phil was coaching I think they do this... but there is no effing way a disciple of Jerry Sloan takes on that migraine... I doubt this happens
This is what I was going to post. Phil sort of likes the oddballs. But Hornacek had a bad experience in Phoenix with the Morris brothers... not sure he'd want the headache or potential lockerroom risk.
I do like Lance a lot... but not sure he fits here.
No more than one headcase on the team at a time. And Rose already gives us one.
