This happened after the last Olympics. Melo came back in seek-and-destroy-mode, Kyrie and Rose have similar games so I think that will help the team get on the same page quickly

We have gone into this many times but Knicks had their opportunities to add talent around him over the years. They had plenty of trade chips after the Melo trade including Fields, who at the time was a starting SG as a rookie and was the best rebounding guard in the league. Also shooting 40% from 3pt and had good defensive potential. Also Lin was discovered after the fact and was proving himself as a starting PG in this league. We let both walk over the summer instead of turning them into value. Our best 2 young players at the time. Poor decision making. Danny Ainge would have done more.

Did we do good otherwise, no. But Lando was a second round pick and thus was free to negotiate and us to match.
Can't trade free agents. Ainge hasn't exactly lit the world on fire other than do a better job collecting talent/picks while staying relevant. He is doing a good job.
and Yes, Ainge and his owners have had a plan. Grunwald took over for Walsh who walked after Dolan was not interested in a plan.
And if Melo had to play with Lin and lando I don't think we be much better for it.
Melo has always been a great offensive talent but with a propensity to force shots that distract. Recall Paul Pierce saying he was his toughest cover ever because he could score from anywhere given his skills and strength though he is at his best imo by simply catching and shooting
His clear ability to dominate in catch and shoot, and then be able to engage in what has been deemed "pre-historic, dinoaur-era bully ball" is what makes him such a great fit with KP now at the 4. The team Phil has put together is going to provide teams with fits trying to adjust and match up. One can only hope with all this starphucque power on the team now and a high-profile schedule right out of the gate, Melo might also get a few more calls and trips to the line. No matter what, if Noah and KP stay healthy, our offensive boarding should be elite.

True but every team is in that boat. One twisted ankle to Lebron and they're toast. For me the value of this Knicks roster is that none of the players will have to kill themselves in order for this team to win.

Obviously DRose knows nothing about NBA basketball players, since he mentions Melo ahead of KP. 
I just heard Stephen A. Talking about Melo on Mike and Mike. He said Melo has had one all star teammate in NY and that was Tyson during the 54 win season. The amazing thing about that was that Tyson was out for all but 4 of the final 20 games that season. The Knicks finished that season on an 18-2 run. Tyson didn't show up for the playoffs either. This group could do some special stuff.

If I remember correctly, Stat was ridden into the ground by Pringles before Melo ever got here. Stat was never the Phoenix Amare or the double-double machine he was prior to Melo coming here.
And nix, why are you leaving out Noah? He's got the opportunity here to affect team chemistry as much as the other three. I cannot remember having this loaded of a team, even during the Ewing years.

OH i've commented PLENTY about Noah. I've said in multiple threads that Noah is the linchpin on Offense and Defense. He's a vocal leader and he sets the tone. Noah moves on D and passes on O. He's underrated IMO cuz people look at his lack of scoring but ignore his impact on the overall flow of the offense and defense.
Melo hasn't had a lot of help and likely would play better with better teammates. But he also could have cut out a lot of the bad contested shots even on his previous rosters. Also, how many all-stars have an all-star teammate? Not many teams have 2 or more all-stars. If Melo has had one in 2 of his 6 years, I'm guessing that's normal. I doubt more than 1/3 of the teams have 2 all-stars.

It looks like 6 out of 30 teams had at least 2 all-stars last year (Miami, Toronto, Chicago, GS, OKC, SAS). So that's a pretty high standard that SAS is referring to. Championship teams don't always have 2 all-stars.

I mean Cleveland won the chip and they had Irving and Love to go with Lebron. Irving and Love may have not made the all star team im guessing going by your data. But they are all star caliber.
Knicks have had some of the poorest guard play over the yrs during Melo's tenure with only exceptions being Linsanity and the Felton/Kidd/Smith trio during the 54 win season.
Based on the 54 win season just get adequate guard play comparable to what Felton/Kidd/Smith produced. But without the enigma and old as hell attachments.
