Bargs... easy. All the other moves while they didn't work had some ounce of logic or reasoning behind them. The Bargs move was just total retardation

Bargnani... or, if the Chauncey Billups extension followed by almost instant-amnesty is included under the Tyson trade, then that one. Signing Amare I can deal with, striking out on a draft pick is whatever, Mark Jackson sucks, and chasing Lebron doesn't compare to those 2.

Melo has been our best player since Ewing and will go down top 5 in Knicks history. That alone says he doesn't belong as an option. That being said, the 2009 draft was a killer.

TFK withdraw? Missing Gallo?

Should be 2 options for Melo.

1)Trading all those picks and assets instead of waiting until he was a free agent in 2011

2)Resigning Melo to a 5 year Max contract with a No Trade Clause kicker instead of doing a proper rebuild

Another option that should be included is using the Amnesty provision on Chauncey Billups instead of saving it for Amare, but I guess that could be rolled up into the Tyson Chandler trade.

I can think of 25+ things worse than those 2, thats for sure.

maybe you can but that melo deal did not bring the knicks even within smelling distance of a conference finals, which would have justified the trade even to those like myself who hated it from the beginning, if only because we knew nothing would come of it.

and nothing has.

the main point is the article is rubbish for not even mentioning that transaction as a possibility for debate.

Exactly. What has the last 6 years of Melo sucking for the Knicks brought the franchise? Nothing but embarrassment and pain.

The only good thing about Melo sucking for the Knicks is his mediocrity has brought us KP. All by accident of course. If he even played close to the top 25 player he's supposed to be, we wouldn't even be in the lottery and players would flock to New York to get a chance to win a ring.

What was the Knick record the decade prior to the Melo trade? But conference finals needed to happen to justify it? That's 2 parts LOL, 1 part facepalm. Nice to see the same folks are keeping up the good fight. Yawn

What has Melo exactly brought us though? Answer the question?

And please don't mention the 1st round series win against a broken down Boston team that should've been a sweep if not for JR phucking Smith.

The only joy Melo has brought the Knicks franchise is when he's either been hurt or injured. See 2 week Jeremy Lin run or drafting of KP. 62 point game don't count, that's an individual ballhog accolade, not a team accomplishment.

We made the playoffs 3 of those years, and won a playoff series. There is your answer. Is it a lot of success? NO. But more than we had experienced prior to him? Absolutely. Enjoy continuing to be the laughing stock of this board. You wear it well.

So you don't like making the playoffs and winning playoff series? They don't count as success with Melo on the team? No wonder you want to rebuild the old fashioned way. You love to suck and complain about it. Make perfect sense lol. A word to the wise. You can't say "what has Melo brought to us? and you can't count the playoff appearances Melo has brought to us." Look at what you wrote and think about how ridiculous that sounds. You can't ask a question then not count the answers.

MS @ 8/16/2016 11:09 AM
It's Amare far and away.

We were handicapped by his contract which made us make panic moves like trading for Tyson Chandler and using our buy out on Billups.

It was essentially Allan Houston. He was productive for 1/5 seasons. Every subsequent move was an all in. We had to trade for Melo and pay a kings ransom. Had we not made that signing we could have just kept rebuilding.

Uhhh...Hate to break it to you but half the teams in the NBA make the playoffs. Not an accomplishment by any means.

Just for reference, the Knicks made the playoffs with Stephon phucking Marbury. SO

Someone on this board has to speak the truth and stop sugarcoating mediocrity. Anyone actually happy about the Knicks the last 16 years, is living in denial about reality.

The last time the Knicks were truly relevant was when Jeff Van Gundy was still driving a Honda Civic as coach for the Knicks.

Me. Laughingstock? Sure, if you say so boss.

you have the advantage of history going for you, as damnably lousy as it has been. and it is actually a very weak argument. to make the argument more viable you would need to ask yourself: would the knicks have been much better off waiting for his free agency, whereupon the assets the knicks had could have been converted into something better for the future? be honest, unlike the article.

WINNING a playoff series is the sole accomplishment for this team in the past 10 years on the court. Melo carried that team. End of argument.

So we are back to assuming Ujiri and the Nuggets get nothing for Melo? Do you really think that was going to happen? Are you speculating that Melo wouldn't sign a deal under the old CBA with a team other than the Knicks if he was traded? So the assumptions in this scenario are Ujiri is stupid, Melo is going to wait to get paid less and see what free agency looks like in the new CBA after the owners lock the players out. Got it.
