Have to wonder if the kid if developed right could have been better. He bounced around NBA without any fanfare and has been solid in europe. He was a project. Obviously he never lived up to our hopes.
At the same time, the end of the fat man era could not come soon enough without the knicks at least trying. Besides the idiocy that was trading 2 no. 1 unprotected picks for Ephedra Eddy, Knicks took the very talented Michael Sweetney.
Drafted in 2003, the same draft as Lebron, Darko and Melo, its hard to think that Sweetney is only 33 years old!!!
That draft was not that deep and really, not much to regret on in hindsight. No doubt when looking back we could have done better, but then we always can in hindsight.
Think Detroit still laments not picking Melo???
I remember the chants for him on draft night...

The kid has recently been with Barcelona, he is a free agent this summer.
Not advocating we sign him or he is an NBA talent. We moved him quicky to PHX in the Marbury deal.
He had some opportunities so not "regretful".
Small Parallel with KP6 only because we knew very little about him and we had high hopes. He was a 30th pick and project.
Fans so wanted this kid to pan out!!
Also, NBA was not as receptive to Euro Projects then. I just recall he was pretty mobile, pretty thick for an 18 year old with some outside range.
Might be more suitable in todays NBA but at age 31, that ship likely sailed.
I was just blown away that he is only 31!!!!!

Yeah that was an exciting night. I remember thinking they might take Lampe in the first instead of Sweetney. Was Vranes that draft as well?
