Not always a fan of his, but man is the guy all heart on and off the court.

"I like to thank Coach Thompson....for saving my life"

I think someone cut some onions near my desk, either that or my eye allergies are acting up...

Always been a huge fan.....Pound for Pound, the best 6'0 and under guard to impact the NBA.

he was a freak of nature and very fun to watch. Also very likable. However, if he played today, he would never get away with the chucking that he did back then. He was a streetballer who brought one on one to the game and really enjoyed showing up his defender. Fun to watch but not very team oriented and way way way too many terrible shots.

Aesthetics and efficiency aside, the only 5'11 guy in history to win NBA MVP.

Don't think you could be overrated if you beat out these other guys on this list:

2000-01
FIRST TEAM
F: Tim Duncan
F: Chris Webber
C: Shaquille O'Neal
G: Allen Iverson
G: Jason Kidd
SECOND TEAM
F: Kevin Garnett
F: Vince Carter
C: Dikembe Mutombo
G: Kobe Bryant
G: Tracy McGrady
THIRD TEAM
F: Karl Malone
F: Dirk Nowitzki
C: David Robinson
G: Ray Allen
G: Gary Payton

the fact that he won that MVP and that he is on that list as a first team is him being overrated.

Scoring 30 points on 40 shots used to be cool but it aint cool no more.

that was back then. Today if he played like that he would get roasted. Find me one guy who is considered a super star in todays game that can even remotely closely get away with taking and missing so many terrible shots.

Yes. Overrated in retrospect with the way the game is played today and how its measured.

Yup, different eras. Just like we had with the Steph Curry/GS greatest ever debate a few months back.

Of course AI would struggle in today's spread P&R bombs away from 3 NBA. Then again, he'd probably have 30 points just from free throws if a coach was able to tolerate his high usage rates, just from today's (non) existent hand check rules.

I loved the speech -- it could NOT have been more real or true to his soul.

He is definitely a flawed man but I love how real he is, how loyal he remains to those who have helped him or loved him.

I was never a huge fan of AI's but I have more respect for him as a man after that speech -- that said I still suspect he will run into some financial/legal troubles down the road -- don't hope so but fear he's too flawed to avoid them over the course of a lifetime.

LivingLegend @ 9/12/2016 2:23 PM
I would say that Isaiah Thomas was just as tough, just as talented offensively (if not more so) and more of a team leader/facilitator (true point).

Zeke had just as much ability to score the ball but restricted his usage/attempts because he was 1st and foremost a great PG/leader.

Didn't Rose win MVP in an era when everybody was shooting 3's?

Just like Rose, AI had the same efficiency driving by his man and scoring inside or gets fouled. On top of that, his mid range jump shot was also a weapon. Then he was at the top in steals....

I understand what you mean with his and-1 street game... ..but this is a fact. If you can change the game, like AI did for small shooting guards you will never be considered overrated......even off the court by infusing hip hop into the NBA main stream.

True story.. I played ball recently in Dallas and I never been on the court with so many big dudes. I'm the same height as AI.....then there was maybe 2 other guys around 6'2
The rest was 6'5 to 6'10.....I understand how hard it is to dominate when playing around the size....You either jumping like Rose or Quicker like AI, with off balance jumpers....

All the small guys in the NBA can thank AI.....especially the guards / players who grew up in today's hip hop area.

Nate "Tiny" Archibald lead the league in Scoring and Assists, 34ppg and 11 assists in 1973. Many accolades and of course HOF!!
Was Sporting News NBA MVP that year. I'd say him, Thomas and Iverson best small guards in each of their respective Eras.

Let me clarify.. Best 6'0 and under NBA players....yes.. Because as nix would say, the system is eating up brothers, hook Mitchell would've been the next one on the list if the SYSTEM didn't and decisions he made didn't affect his future. This dude is no joke.. One of the best that never made it, under 6'0

Great speech by AI. I think he hit all the marks he was looking to hit and really went back in thanking everybody. His nervousness was obvious but he loosend up as he went along.
