Every year predictions are way off. Knicks are a hard team to predict, and most tend to err on the side of losing. I like the roster, especially considering what we started with a few years ago.

Yeah the progression in talent is very clear IMO. From year one to year two there was some progress and in year three I think this roster is much improved. Not to mention the little talked about change at head coach. Hornacek is a huge change for this team and he should be able to work with the roster that Phil has given him.

Hornacek likes to play fast and aggressive and these players are at their best playing that way. Hornacek has had 3pt shooting bigs before and was able to get a lot out of them. I suspect he'll have a lot of stuff he can do with KP.

Lee is a better fit in that he doesn't need the all in order to be effective. Afflalo had to have the ball and even tho he could also catch and shoot, he spent too much time posting up and Lee is the complete opposite of that. PLUS Lee defends and finishes in transition at a high rate.

I think Jennings being on the team is a HUGE plus. He brings that extra punch off the bench. For one he's another capable PG and he can help maintain a high level of play. There should be no drop off as we've seen in the past.

I'm hoping that Holiday can show something with a consistent role, similar to how Lance Thomas was able to show his ability when he got to play a consistent role. Holiday is 6-6 with a 7-1 wingspan and he can defend and shoot the 3 well enough. As a role player I think he can give this team something in Hornacek's schemes. Hornacek was able to get a TON out of Gerald Green and maybe he can have the same success with Holiday.

Their argument for why there is no upside to the Rose trade, particularly Dubin's, is pretty daft.

To me it's all opinion, the thing i'm a little concern with is that, our 2nd yr players always seemed to regress, which is why we always end up trading our young players

Rose plays well and is a big reason Knicks make the playoffs for the first time in 3 years. Yea... where's the upside in the that? God forbid he plays well, resigns and is part of a team that makes the playoffs every year... no upside in that either. Rose is 26 and replaced Jose Calderon... again, what possible upside could we see there?
callmened @ 9/22/2016 2:31 PM
by the way, my friend who works for the knicks, just got done watching Rose practice. he said he's got "jets and works hard like an animal. still has super speed that makes you wonder if rose is the same species as us. one man fast break that just blows by everyone in practice. they tell him to slow down so they can actually practice 5 v 5"

The potential upside is so obvious. I get that these guys have battered Knicks fan syndrome... but man, it's kinda annoying. Anyway, we'll see what happens. Obviously there's a chance for a down side. But to argue there is zero potential upside is absurd.

its a contract year so I think he'll play well

The assumption is Rose will break again, if not this year and we seduced to resign him, then again and again.

I kind of agree with most of the predictions by the pro's and their logic is sound. Fan's sometimes have more "hope" than logic.
Perhaps us fans are have a strong belief in "GodZingis" rising into star status. In my book KP gives us 18 and 10 and Rose replicates his last two months and gives us 70 games This team has its "Trio" which is essential to any success and we are a playoff team.

This is how I feel for sure. I don't let the past totally bias how I look at this team. At some point you have to let that crap go! There is tremendous upside on this roster. It's like so many are afraid to admit that something good can come out of the moves this summer.

I think a 10-13 win improvement (42-45 wins) sounds like good upside to me. they improved the roster - no one can argue that

Callmened's friend should be ashamed of himself using his eyeballs rather than judging Rose's speed and workout effort by using Metrics instead. How could this guy's eyes perceive Rose's speed? 😜

neds friend is not the problem, its the ones who get excited and let reports like this mean something to them. Again, Amare was the most in shape and exciting off season exciter in knicks history.

Except Amare had a timeline on his knee. When was Amare's offseason exciting? All I remember is the special shorts he wore to keep his posture right after he hurt his back. Things got much worse after that. Is there anyone that didn't recognize Amare as Walsh's desperate attempt to do something after trading the Knicks lottery pick, players and draft picks to be a player in free agency. Selling future cap space to hide his failures was a huge mistake Walsh made.

there were a couple of offseason that all everyone did was go gaga about how great Amare looked and how in shape he was and how great he sounded to the media and yadayadayada.

This offseason PR means nothing. Maybe is a doctor came out and measured his lateral quickness between years and said that this offseason its 3 times more explosive which should greatly enhance his defense, that would be an interesting take.

The greatest thing about the offseason is that hope is not killed yet with losses. WE ARE UNDEFEATED!!

Plus why bring up Amare as the example??? It's purely to use a negative example to support his stance. Also does it mean that the reports on how Rose is looking aren't true? That he couldn't possibly be a positive player for this team and help them win games?

Here's my view. Perhaps the Knicks are a nearly impossible team to assess based on the usual methods. Maybe RPM or some other metric won't work on this Knicks roster for a myriad of reasons. This is a nearly completely new roster and Coach. There are so many variables that I simply do not believe that they have a clue what this team is going to do using the statistical methods they're using. I think this team is going to be confident and totally pumped emotionally for this season. I don't think they can measure just how that will impact these players. Rose, Noah, Jennings in particular will be on Super Saiyan levels when they hit the Garden. IMO they will bring up the emotional level of the other players as well.

The biggest weakness had been SIZE. We didn't lose cuz we couldn't score enough or didn't have a great PG. We lost on the boards and getting critical stops. We had NO CENTERS and now we're deep at center. I don't see how any Knick fan can't be happy about this. Considering all the complaining about lack of size and defense in the past. Whats not to like? Tony fukking douglass as our starting PG after the Billups amnesty?

nixluva wrote:
That's just it, he didn't have a normal off season of work due to his Back injury limiting him for most of the off season. This time around he's been able to actually work and I believe he's gonna come back in the best shape he's been in for a while now. STAT has typically bounced back from injury in his 2nd year after the injury and I fully expect that he'll do the same thing. It takes time for a spinal injury to not only heal, but for an athlete to also regain flexibility and core strength. I'm glad that he's able to actually work on those things and i'm glad he's gonna try to add post moves to his game.

If he's fully healed then he should be less stiff as he clearly was last year. That would be a huge plus for this team if we get STAT with his jumper back, some post moves and his lively body back. DON'T HATE! APPRECIATE!!!
