This section seemed a bit rough IMO. I think Phil did his best to put a roster together that could perform at a higher level and still have some youth in the mix. In the end I still think it's advantageous for KP to be playing with vets that know how to win. KP on a totally green team is not going to really help him see how it's supposed to be done. He's not Lebron. I don't think you can just drop KP on the floor with a bunch of kids that don't really know anything and expect that to be a better learning experience.

Most other moves were acceptable, and some even quite good, but they add up to create a roster that only makes sense for a contender. Yet New York will be lucky to make the playoffs.

The presence of Porzingis ensures that the 2016-17 Knicks will not lack all hope of achieving greater success in the future. However, his continued primacy in the hearts and minds of the Madison Square Garden faithful almost makes the present situation worse. Porzingis’s second season should be one in which the NBA’s best-ever Latvian begins to become the face of one of the NBA’s marquee franchises. Instead, he’s playing with a point guard known for jacking up lots of shots, eternal efficiency nemesis Carmelo Anthony, and a new frontcourt partner in Noah who may have to cede many of his duties to Porzingis before he’s entirely ready.

This is a team that makes no sense at all and can make even the most sensible fan angry. Jackson has misjudged their readiness to contend and the players needed to accomplish that goal. A truly special young talent is being given unnecessary roadblocks to progress. The summer’s biggest acquisition, Rose, is currently in the midst of a civic rape trial that has made him look woefully ignorant at best and criminal at worst.

As ever, this franchise appears more focused on winning the news cycle than building anything lasting. The hope that came with Jackson’s arrival in March 2014 is now all but gone. Believe in the Knicks at your own risk.

KP needs another yr of seasoning before he will be ready to be that guy. With these other offensive options I prefer for KP to focus on being dominant defensively. This is better for the Knicks long term success as well as his.

these mismatched pieces (Rose/Noah) together with Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony, the latter of which has at least has proven he’s willing to give his all for a team going nowhere.

Two players who made the playoffs every year they were both truly healthy are mismatched pieces? They don't match because of injury history? This is very intuitive. A shoot first slashing point guard and one of the best defensive/passing big men in the NBA. I see. Why would you want them on the court at the same time with a Unicorn 4 and the most prolific scorer the franchise has ever known?

In terms of wins, the best the Knicks can probably hope for is something just shy of 50 with a mid-table playoff berth. But that probably wouldn’t be any good for the franchise as a whole, so let’s not even consider it.

This sentence is filled with such incredible Hinkie-like wisdom it defies all explanation. So in the trite words of the author, why bother trying to explain it? Better yet, why bother reading a piece of tripe like this, unless of course you feel regenerated in between bouts of internet porn by expressing moral outrage that a 28 year old millionaire has a really raunchy sex life. And of course, gluing the words "inefficient" and "Melo" together gets instant points with the "cranky Knick fan base".

The Knicks best case scenario is that it all suhucks major donkey kong and this season ends up in a lottery pick. That's the best case scenario. For a Knick fan. You got that?

And his entire little rant doesn't make mention of the insane level of upgrade to the backcourt (I didn't even see a mention of Jose or Langston NBDL Galloway or Jimmer Freddette), or even a mention of Big Willy or Cheese.

What do we have? Another I hate the Triangle, I think 13 rings are meaningless, we need to tank because I internally hate Carmelo Anthony, and he can't disappear fast enough.

Great read.

Once I read this from DK there were things I could assume about the article... Disparaging comments about Rose/Melo and glowing comments about KP.

This guy is not only not a knick fan he's a borderline idiot that may have just started watching basketball midway through last season.

How many (face of the team draft picks) bounce after constantly losing, see melo, see shaq, see Aldridge, see KG, see rose, and the list is everlasting.

You have to have young stars surrounding by winning vets in order for them to develop winning habits, or it wont be long before they pull a KD/LBJ, and leave your ass high and dry.

Bingo. This review essentially amounts to a hot take with very little thought and analysis on how this might work. Anyways.

The only way you can come up with an article like this is if you have a hatred for the franchise. Or if you are a starving Internet writer that needs his and figures bashing the Knicks would gain him those hits. He probably will get it because fans do feel this way about the Knicks. Fans that don't follow the Knicks but have a huge opinion and don't even know who's in the roster.

Anyway, not going to steal my joy. The Knicks are in great shape. Our worse case scenario gets us a lotto pick and 25 million off the books from Rose contract. This author says 50 wins is a bad thing for this team. Cruel intentions no doubt. Best case scenario is this franchise gets better in their development and still get 25 million off the books due to Rose contract.

fifty wins equals what number draft pick in 2017? not that the knicks *will* win 50 games-- more likely 38 to 42 wins and the lottery, but *if* they get fifty wins won't they lose out on a high draft pick?
