The Knicks are trying to win and build for the future. Five rooks ANSI a second year guy on the roster is definitely building. But if you think Jax and Mills went out and got Rose, Lee, Noah and Jennings to not be in the mix this year I disagree.

Phil brought those guys in because he cant justify to his boss why the Garden has to shut their doors early every year in april. Phil had to bring in talent that can truly compete. I do agree the Knicks are building, too many rooks to state otherwise.

They wont win the title taking threes and giving up the few bigs they had. The Spurs beat them by being much bigger and using similar skillsets.

Again it's just the first game but what is bad is lance bricking open shots like he was in preseason as a NBA pro it is unacceptable to miss wide open j's over and over and over again ...he keeps playing like this and he's going to end up at the end of the bench

WTF happened to the LT who took 500 shots a day during the offseason? Got the contract, so maybe that stopped?

Turnovers and missed assignments on defense looked like a team with lots of roster changes and one of its main cogs was not even on the sidelines for two weeks. Yes, thats what I saw.

I didn't see Boston experimenting or the nets out there. This was the Cav's with a Chip and the best player on the planet in this era.

he has a tradable contract, so i'm not to concern.

I'm concerned because he was supposed to be the vet anchor for our bench full of mostly yoots. Could he be hurt and playing through it?

Also Hornacek held back on installing the offense with Rose missing. He also didn't get a chance to see his new team and particularly starting lineup so he could work on rotations etc.

To me it's ridiculous to try and gauge anything from this early season. We know that the team missed important time in the preseason to work with each other. Even if they had a full camp and preseason together it would've been some time needed to develop chemistry. still doesn't mean that they won't be good when they have time to come together more. What matters is how this team comes together over the course of this season. They have enough talent to win. But there's more to it than just having some talent. They'll get it together.

take a deep breath nix. Im just being honest. I have said a million times that we are a playoff team but i dont think we are a elite 55—60 win tema. Building block is not a bad thing. This season is really about getting KP to the next level and getting to the playoffs. We have multiple draft picks and cap space to take the next step

I'm telling you that when this team gets in midseason form you won't be talking about building blocks. People are misreading how bad they looked tonight. There were a ton of extenuating circumstances that lead to such a bad performance and it's not because this team only has 42 win talent!!!

It amazes me but then it doesn't, how people are so quick to jump off the bandwagon or assume the Knicks won't be much after one game. Especially when we know the starting lineup wasn't together this preseason. That has stunted the teams development.
We simply MUST have the top 7 players functioning at a high level. None of them were clicking tonight and a huge part of that is how things went before the season.

How am i jumping off the bandwagon? This is what i have predicted for months. Im not upset about tonight, i expected it to be tough. Jesus Christ Almighty lol

You can't take everything I write so personally. I wasn't saying YOU are jumping off the bandwagon. I said "PEOPLE" are so quick to jump off. Clearly if you weren't one of those people then it wasn't directed at you. Even tho it was in a post responding to you I didn't say YOU jumped off the bandwagon.

I agree that we can't tell anything from one game, particularly one played against the champs on their home court. Not to mention our starting PG basically was playing in pre-season form. I sense a small degree of exasperation from Nix' post, but still feel like we are in a two-track mode...building for the future (i.e., experience for yoots) and also trying to take advantage of what's left of Melo's career. I think that's really the best approach we could take, and I applaud Jax for setting it up that way. Not much else he was gonna do that hasn't been tried and failed before.

So let's all see how it goes over the first 20 games before we make any damning statements. But let's also admit that we are from from contention.

Knixkik @ 10/26/2016 10:53 AM
It's just 1 game, and against the champs, so no reason to overreact on anything we saw. A few things i noticed, but again, won't overreact on:

-We need to run more. We did it in preseason, and for some reason really slowed down to focus too much on running an offense. Quicker outlet passes in order to do that. I cringe every time O'Quinn grabs a rebound and takes an eternity to get rid of the ball. His style of play really frustrates me. We need big men who start the break.
-Need to get Porzingis more involved. Rose didn't look to involved him at all when they were playing together.
-Melo looks great. No needing time to get his rhythm like in previous years. He's good to go.
-If we can't shoot, we won't win. I think our biggest downfall will be inconsistency from the outside. We have a lot of guys that can make shots, but no great outside shooters. Lee is going to need to consistently shoot and make threes in the starting lineup. Holiday will need to continue to do it. Kuzminskas will need to get more playing time and play with the starters more as he looks like our best three-point shooter currently in the rotation.
-Rotation should be: Rose, Lee, Melo, KP, and Noah with Jennings, Holiday, Thomas, Kuz, and Willy/O'Quinn split until one of them emerges. O'Quinn did some good things, but his slow-down approach is very frustrating.
-A line-up of Rose, Lee, Melo, Kuz, and KP should be used a lot. It can be devastating on offense.

GoNyGoNyGo @ 10/26/2016 11:34 AM
I like what Kuz showed last night and in pre-season.

Rose was bad except for a few nice drives. It seemed like he didnt run any sets and just gave up and went to the basket. Jennings was the same.

Lee was very quiet.

KP was not involved in the offense enough. Almost every set should be a pick and roll with Melo or KP. Working curls and cuts off that.

Defense was bad. Noah, was pretty awful all night. Willy looked slow.

The cavs played fast and loose. NY was tight and could not keep up as their not as comfortable with each other.
