Knicks · Expectations reduce joy... (page 1)

I try to save you people from nixlovia drug crash...
Why Knicks fans are doing this to themselves over and over again? Year after year?
Will it be much smarter to see team grow and accept the growing pains?
Is this what real fan support is?
CrushAlot @ 10/28/2016 11:00 PM
The Knicks have 5 rooks and a really good second year player. They also have 5 really good vets in Melo, Rose, Noah, Lee and Jennings. The bench also has vets in O'Quinn, Sasha, Holiday, and Lance. If you count KP the Knicks are 9 deep in guys that most coaches would trust with minutes. The team is growing with a roster that has the talent to win. Three picks next year.

Exactly... a lot of reasons to enjoy the ride.
But not too much reasons to expect contending and domination.
We are better but where we are in comparison with competition?
We are some long miles away. How long we will find out after 40-50 games.
Every win should be mesmerizing not expected.
Every improvement in the games of player we have should be a bonus and not given.
If some fans do not have enough stress in the office and in the family they can obviously get it with the favorite team.
But I do not think this is smart way to entertain yourself.

And so goes the broad spectra of life..Sure disappointments bring sadness but without them, we forge no memories..Jordan's Bulls stole my joy in the 90s, I saw disappointment time and time again by the Bulls, Heat, Pacers, Spurs, etc. After a while the pain goes away and you remember the journey and the battles, the bronco chase during the playoffs and how pissed you were when NBC cut in with freaking OJ..Those are great memories now that I would never trade for nothingness...So yeah, bring on some playoff losses. I never got why so many hated Woody who guided us to the playoffs..I'll remember the JR's collapse in the playoffs when he blew out his knee and we never knew..People still blame him for that even after they found out he had the same injury as Melo..I'll remember how Melo and Shump were the only guys that showed up for the Pacers..Yeah, give me all that sorrow, I'll take that over nothingness and no hope any day...

This. Man that 93 team broke my heart. 94 was OJ? and that sucked. I took a job as a long term sub in '93. Everybody that wasn't a Knick fan loved the bulls. I bet a guy that worked with me and I played ball with that the Knicks would win. This guy and I competed against each other a lot and we talked a lot of trash. Our bet was that the guy whose team lost would have to give the other guy a piggy back to his classroom after the kids came to school for a week. When the Knicks went up 2-0 I was talking to him a lot. I think the Knicks were on the cover of SI and I put that on his door. When the Knicks lost and we came back to work, he ran down the hall the first day and leaped onto my back. The kids loved it. Probably the only good feeling I had about losing that series.

Wow. I have never been to a playoff game. Cassell was amazing in that series. Was he the 19th pick? Reminiscing, there used to be basketball almanac? that had a scouting report and predictions for all players and some college players.

The expectations of winning it all were almost real. The team was almost a real contender and it overachieved.
Now we not even close... So lets be happy about little baby steps.
Knicks fans deserved some miracles after suffering so long.
Let them come unexpected.

That was a crazy year. The Rangers won the cup. And the Knicks almost won the title. I am not a puck fan but I still remember watching the Rangers win the cup.
A title for the Knicks...Seems like that should have happened in the early nineties. Lets hope this team is like the '99 team. I would go all in to get a ticket to the finals.

Baby steps? This isn't a real rebuild so their isn't any expectations for the future either..KP is the only gem for the future..We can only hope the rest turn into serviceable players in the future..The triangle will die as soon as Phil leaves and we rebuild again...I hope KP don't experience what Melo is currently going through..We have talent but.............And it's painful to watch the players and coaches go through these exercises and they aren't committed..I have seen total commitment in this uniform before where guys shave their heads in solidarity and leave it on the court..

The team isn't closing out on defense..They aren't giving effort and the coach isn't even mad..He didn't even stand up as we gave up wide open threes..Only one game tho..We have too much talent not to have expectations..

And by the way, the Knick have three starters that were legit MVP candidates this decade in their starting lineup..So not even the playoffs?..If KP, Rose, Melo and Noah stays healthy then then gonna be expectations in NY..

Rangers are fun to watch. They created a culture of wining and every new player they get is buying in.
This team DESERVE expectations. Knicks are not yet. Curiosity yes... Respect no.

They are the shadows of what they were.
This team is not stabilized as far as roster and will need 2-3 more years of consistent building for the future.

Expectations are an escape from the NOW, for sure.

We have a nice looking team on paper and if we stay healthy and build chemistry we can go places. If nothing else, we have a nice foundation going forward.
Regardless, I'm ecstatic we have our draft pick this year and more cap space. We might find our future PG in this years draft (heavy at PG) - let's just see how Rose's and Jennings' audition go.

Expectations need to be tempered for this season, but expectations for the future are very high. We finally have a healthy situation with a franchise player, all of our draft picks, and a decent cap situation. We also have some young players in the pipeline. We are used to a situation with mainly veteran players, no upcoming picks, no cap space, and little youth in the pipeline. I will just watch this season with no real expectations, and hopefully we do well. Things should only go up from here. Phil hasn't been perfect, he has taken some chances, but he has restored this franchise back to a pretty good place.

Totally agree with both of you. But think the board is pretty even on expectations. Ofcourse you have the few that come out with ridiculous hate statements on certain players. Ie. Rose, Melo. And put themselves in a position where they have to exaggerate anything negative to support their original point. I look for progress each game. Rose being back to health, first game affirmed that. Noah back to being a quick footed big that can defend. Seems on his way. Melo getting that leg strength back. Looked great in first half before getting a bit winded. Lee being the perimeter guard defender we have been missing. Definitely seems to be. And having KP develop an interior game. Think he will improve with time. Progression is all you can look for. Anyone expecting more and throwing out short sighted jabs is just trolling, not a real sports enthusiast or has probably never played organized sports before. IMO.
