Knicks · Melo future after this season? (page 1)

nixluva @ 10/30/2016 1:23 AM
I would just try to enjoy this season. All these things will take care of themselves after this season.
arkrud @ 10/30/2016 8:43 AM
It is up to him.
If he will like the progress he will continue with Knicks.
If things will go sour he will look for better chances to win it all.
And nobody can blame him for this.
jrodmc @ 10/31/2016 1:16 PM
He already looked, and he stayed here.

The No Trade Clause. Say it with me!

Exactly. And at this point, what destinations really make sense for both parties? LAC have nothing to trade. GS, SAS, and Cleveland probably wouldn't have any way of getting him or a great interest either. No other teams in the "contender" category. No other big market teams looking for aging stars. Boston might be the closest thing to a realistic destination, and its not that realistic. So i just don't see any realistic scenario that can open in the next year. And thats if he were to ever even consider it again.

Yeah. It had Rose and Melo leaving after this season.
nyknickzingis @ 11/1/2016 7:46 AM
Hardest thing in the league to do is get talent.

We have all star level skill at 4/5 positions. Now all 4 players may not be at their best or in the case of 3 out of the 4, they can not sustain heavy minutes at that level, but we saw on Saturday night those skills. You didn't see Calderon initiate breaks or break down a defense with penetration. You didn't see Lopez (as solid as he was in the paint) pass or board and bring that atmosphere and energy to the team.

We have a much much more talented team here. I'm looking forward to it. We should let the season play out and then worry about the rest. These guys aren't that old. Melo still has 2 more years at an all star level. Rose is still in his 20s.

I would disagree. It's easy to get talent if you overpay. The hardest thing in this league, especially with the new CBA, is to get good value.

Melo has been here five years, he has never gotten anyone close to DRose in his prime when it comes to talent...We waited two/three years to get a JRSmith type talent here...

correct. and when you overpay for talent, including trading away assets when you don't have to, you end up with mediocrity or worse most of the time. and that's been the history of the melo-era knicks: mediocre or worse most of the time.

the laughable aspect of all this is that with melo it is always someone else's fault.

D Rose in his prime was an MVP candidate. How many teams' 2nd best player is an MVP candidate?

But how long did it take to get such a player, not looking at his talent..The only way we get him is that there's a big risk factor involved...

That's how change happens. Most elite talent sticks with their team. You either have to be setup to contend or you have to roll the dice on risk. But that risk can be mitigated and there's no logic to assuming that what has happened previously will happen again.

Yes, agreed by getting bench players who are NBA ready so we don't run the injury prone starters into the ground, thus further increasing such risk...

And how does one measure value, oh wizard of the calculator? Do you divide salary by number of chips?

How about Cablevision's bottom line? How's Jimmie's investment doing so far?

Melo in nice luxury item to show in your building and a lot of tourist and celebs will come to watch it at the Garden.
No doubt he is a good investment for Dolan and MSG.
He is money well spend for the owner.
What I get as a fan so far... not much.
Bunch of buckets I guess on even bigger bunch of attempts.
Some bully ball and isolations. What else... some drama...
I never paid for this zo... even a $1 so may be it is good enough?

Simple question, Can you name anyone in the league that would have won with the roster given to him the last three years? Last I checked this is not a one man sport. Most complaining are whining fans that are unrealistic about the game. They want that magic unicorn that can allow them to brag about how good their team is. Just takes more than one guy. The last year we surrounded him with decent mixture of young talent and vets he won 54 games. Just because people hype up mediocre players like Calderon, Afflalo, Grant, O'Quinn, Galloway,(should I go on), before the season, doesn't mean they are worth a shit. But I get it, unrealistic fans need to blame someone for spoiling their self imposed crazy expectations.
