It's only game 3 of the season but man.... I turned the game off the last 3 minutes of it....
They let Detroit win. It was nothing they did and everything we didn't do. Now I made this thread to revisit a later on.... right now I can say this is the first game that got away. My hopes are the next time we play them, our scouting report is better and our guys are more used to playing together.
I had it in my mind that the Knicks should have won by 7-10 points easily

the teams a bit of a mess now but hopefully they come around by game 10.
only things im worried about is Lance has been way off
Rose doesnt look to pass- he doesnt give KP any easy shots out there
Melo still goes back to his old ways in the 4th of bricking and not taking it to the hole
KP doesnt look as aggressive on defense
We lost to a team that will probably win 45-48 games this season. They are a good team. Not a lot of gimme games in the early part of the season. Detroit is a better team than us right now. They are probably the 4th or 5th best team in the east.
With 4 minutes left it seemed like the knicks did not know what to do on offense.
In the NBA this is what teams do, they go to their stars and let them free lance.
To their credit, the team missed good shots and a few were "in and out". The defense was respectable and with 5 minutes left they were down just 5 pts.
I don't like guys going under the basket and leaving their feet to kick the ball out on the perimeter.
The way I saw the game, we just needed to hit some of those missed shots in the 4th to steal the momentum and come away with a win. Our defense picked up dramatically in the second half, partly due to LT coming in. Noah beasted on Drummond, defensively. But we missed SO many shots. If Lance found his stroke, we'd have won. If we moved the ball more on offense, we'd have won. If Rose got 2 extra dimes a game, we would have won.
It'll take a few more games for the team to gel and Horny to figure out effective rotations. But let's not lose sight of the forest for the trees.

Looked to me like a combination of bad luck on some of the missed shots and also a lack of chemistry and purpose on O. The Knicks still aren't close to being in sync or having a clear idea of how they need to attack teams, especially late in games. That can take time for a new team to develop. We can't forget this is LITERALLY only the 3rd time these guys have played together in a real game!!!
Thomas deserves the respect of his tenure and his contact but Kuz might need his name called early if Thomas keeps looking so flat. He's playing like he's suffering from a hangover.
As far as DETROIT... THEY might WIN 45-48 games.... but last night they did not look better than the Knicks. Our defense was leaving guys wide open all game giving then confidence. In the 4th quater Detroit Gave the Knicks 12 minutes of bad basketball that should have resulted in the Knicks pulling aware with the win. The Knicks couldn't score. It wasn't the Detroit defense.... there was a 5 minute stretch where nobody could score on either side. That was the time for the Knicks to close it out. After Detroit got a couple bullshit scores I turned the game off around the 3 minute mark.
Good thing about the nba is there is always another game.... they are back to back tonight

And why is Thomas shooting so many deep 2s? No 3pt attempts at all, yet they all looked like they should be. He's not a great shooter to begin with, but what's the point of shooting a step inside the line? It's almost like he's a afraid to shoot 3s now, like he doesn't want to ruin his career % from his great shooting season last year. He needs to be a 3 & D guy for us off the bench. If he doesn't have the confidence to take and make the open three, he shouldn't be playing big minutes.

Something is wonky with the spacing right now. Last season Lance would get wide open corner threes, which he became adept at hitting. Now he's getting that wing three - that's the hardest three to hit, imho, and I believe stats back it up that that is the lowest percentage three point shot. I'm not sure what sets are getting Lance that look at the wing three, but maybe they can tweak it so he's set up in the corner.
But agreed - he looks scared to shoot, but knows the right basketball play is to shoot that wide open shot. Never a good feeling.
Detroit was on fire from the first min. They were in a good grove. Things were clicking for them while we are trying to figure it out.
The Problem is really the lack of time the team spent together in the preseason.
It would make sense to change of the rotations.
Rose, Lee, Holiday, Quinn, Noah should see a little time together. I think having KP move to the 5 with Melo at the 4 would be really effective spacing the floor for Jennings. you could move Thomas to the 3 and rotate the guards in a the two spot

The best basketball play is to make the easy bucket... Lance looks like me trying to make an nba 3 pointer. His mechanics look ugly and unprofessional. Like a heave... he should drive it and look to make a play for someone else or a close shot for himself.
This guy Kuz displayed all those skills when he played in preseason. He's going to make the right play. Again I wanna give Lance that respect but I can't go much longer watching him hack away like that. It's not just that Lance can't make a 3, it's he can't do anything. He's taking I'll advised shots without regard for the shot clock or if he had rebounders inside. He's fumbling passes...he's just a mess.
