Who cares who the main guy is? A good team has different guys that can step up any given night. You think Golden State fans are fighting who the main guy is? This obsession with KP being the main guy or Rose only taking certain amount of shots is getting old. Ofcourse all players need to be involved on offense. But it's got to be a desire for all players to be involved, not just KP or Melo or Rose. That's what the really good teams do. But yes, they did a good job tonight involving KP and Lee more often early. But keep saying, defense should be the main concern not who is shooting the ball on offense.

*if* kp6 is the one who has the greatest number of mismatches in his favor then he has to get the ball in mismatch situations. that was the point of coach's postgame after the blowout. and *since* kp6 is the one knick who *will* have the most mismatches, it stands to reason that he *will* get the ball more often than others on the team. then the issue will be how efficient he is. if his TS% is a mediocre 55-56% then he will need to either be a better playmaker or find ways to score better.

in five games this season, even being ignored, he is at 59%TS which is unequivocally elite. he therefore deserves to get a higher usage rate, and that usage should be sacrificed by derrick rose, who needs to start looking for kp6 more than he has.

the shortest path to the knicks winning and success is for kp6 to have a higher usage rate than derrick rose and a higher number of shot attempts as well. he obviously does not need coddling or to be brought along slowly.

Completely agree. Rose will have plenty of opportunities to create for himself but the first option needs to be running offense thru porzingis.

I think everyone agrees that KP has to be one of the top options but you guys are putting this in a bit of the wrong way. KP isn't at the same level as Rose or Melo in terms of creating his own shot. Rose should be initiating and creating better looks for everyone. KP will benefit from the defense being distracted and mismatches, which will be created by having Ball and Player movement, which forces defensive rotations, which will lead to better shots for KP.

This notion that Rose should be doing less is wrong headed. Sure he shouldn't be over-dribbling or forcing it, but he should be a Heavy PnR ball Handler and creating for his teammates. Rose and BJ are going to create a lot of open looks as they breakdown the defense and the more they do that the better for this team. That mixed with a healthy Ball and Player movement from everyone is the right formula. Better spacing, strong picks, sharper cuts and passes is key. For the most part they had that last night. They should only get better.

Rose isnt the same player he was so he fits better now as a complimentary player. Yes he has shown he can get to the rim well BUT he has also shown to be out of control sometimes. Offense looks much stronger when KP is getting as many plays as possible. Im not saying Rose and melo shouldnt look to score but i rather rose focus more on assists like last night

Agree in taking advantage of KP and mis matches. But KP has to do a better job, and he did tonight, of taking advantage of them as well. There have been several games in which he gravitates to the 3pt line and therefore is unable to do so. Today he was much more active underneath. And you can tell the team made an effort to get him the ball. He had a great game. As for Rose and your usage rate, usage rate is misleading if you don't look at the type of shots the player is taking. Rose having a high usage rate that results in lay up attempts is totally different than a guy with a high usage rate taking fall away jumps shots. I do think he has to start using his drive to set up cutters and shooters. Seems to have the blinders on when driving. Also can't seem to stop jumping to pass. He is a special talent though. And had 11 assists last night. Although I think he could have had another 5 or 6. The team looked good. Liked KP being involved more. Liked Melo down low. Liked Lee being involved more. Rose's quickness. And Noah making presence felt on offense. Point was, a good team gets everyone involved night in and night out.

please spare us the pretzel logic: winning games is about defense, mismatches and finding the open man. when rose does "less," meaning a usage of 24% or less, the knicks will win. you saw last night that he took 3 or 4 stupid shots. you want less stupid shots, don't you? instead he should be passing the ball, either with a hockey assist, a lob pass, or maintain his dribble and find the open man. he is clearly-- and spectacularly-- most valuable slicing to the basket on breaks and semi breaks-- so long as he isn't racing towards a rim protector. of course if he can use the rim to protect his shot like he did against lopez then fine. outside of that, however, he should cut back on the circus shots and the teardrops and for pity's sake stop leaving his feet to pass!

again, if rose limits his shot attempts to 13-14 a game and keeps his usage below 24% and/or his assist rate above 35%, this will translate to winning. kp6's shot attempts and usage should go up accordingly. whether triangles or pick and roll, this is the goal numbers wise.

KP has done a great job in the past with mismatches when they actually give them the ball. The only game he was poor at was houston and hornacek admitted they didnt give it to him enough in the right spots
newyorknewyork @ 11/5/2016 2:57 PM
We had 32 assist and 5 turnovers

4 ast from Melo, 25pts
4 ast from Lee, 17pts
4 ast from Noah, 16pts
11 ast from Rose, 15pts
7 ast from Jennings 6pts
1 ast from KP 27pts.

Unselfishness and ball movement and everyone ended up eating in a team effort.

I think making the effort to find KP made the game easier as it gave the offense structure. Also the heavy dose of PNR simplified and made it easier for Rose and Jennings. Since we are in fact built perfectly for the spread PNR(the last 2 seasons).

agree with you. I was impressed with rose because he focused on assists more than points. As a point guard ive always done the same and usually it yields positive outcomes

Why are you such a BIG DYCK? You talk a lot but really you aren't adding much to the conversation. Creating threads after a few games with Stats that you know damned well are meaningless over such a short time.

You think we forgot all the negative and DUMB ASS CRAP you said? +1. This guy called the thread that had nothing but tweets from court reporters about a possible mistrial in the Rose case offensive. His was the first non reporter post in the thread. It is too late to spin things now. Hopefully the spamming of the board and game threads will stop soon. It takes away from the community here. Also, the guy copies and pastes his old posts (he admitted to it). You may not just be reading the same talking points he always posts, you maybe reading his old posts.

The usage hit should be a split between Rose and Melo. They are competing for who is less efficient, at least Rose breaks the defense down, Melo just wastes clock.

The usage hit should be a split between Rose and Melo. They are competing for who is less efficient, at least Rose breaks the defense down, Melo just wastes clock.

no question about it. that's exactly how things should end up. i keep going back to that stretch between games 10 to 40 last year with melo. for 25 games over that stretch melo played fantastic ball, where his usage was closer to 28 and his assist rate around 20. if we can get that from melo the knicks will be so much better this year. don't know what's up with melo so far this season. he seems to be reverting. is he afraid of ceding some of his primacy?

Rose and noah had very good overall game. This is the type of game we need from rose consistently. Melo had some good moments near the end too. New season, new hoops to jump through. Great. Melo's sharing the ball and also scoring on one on one coverage.
Rose is being creamed over by everyone broadcasting the games as the first Knick guard since Spree who can get to the rim at will while not being powered by eating vaseline.

I don't think it's ceding his primacy. I think for the first time in a few seasons he's seeing single coverage. And guess what, the man can score the ball.

But what this board really needs for perfect "true knicks fan" peace is alot more KP iso ball. SMFH.
