Knicks · KP is going to explode from now on! (page 1)

This was very important to KP mentality to finally score more than 30 points and most important team did trust him with ball, welcome to all star level bro :)

As KP stated the important factor is his teammates supporting him and looking to get him the ball in the best spots. As long as his teammates treat him like the stud that he is then he will continue to grow into a star. You can see that his teammates love and trust him and are looking for him more and more.

He is just incredible. I still can't believe how lucky we got to find our franchise player when we needed it most.

And I might add that the Media and some Fans wanted Phil to gut the team and have KP playing on a losing team this year just to be in the Draft!!! I thought that was a STUPID idea since you would be wasting KP's talent. Now he is at least with a group of guys that can play and have him learning in meaningful games. Phil gets a LOT of crap about the job he's done but he did the right thing in scrapping the team and drafting KP and he did the right thing in putting some talent around the kid so he isn't killing himself with a bunch of scrubs and losing every night.

Awesome. Not only is the kid a mythical creature, but he is now a FLYING mythical creature. Will the expectations ever cease?

On a side note, Lebron wants to know why Durant called Kris a unicorn to begin with. Unicorns are generally seen as white. Is it this a race thing? Also, unicorns are generally seen as a more feminine animal. Kris is a Euro who are also sterotyped as soft in the NBA. Was Durant calling him one of a kind, or were we all wrong and Durant was just calling him a soft, white basketball player?
-the preceeding comment was said in jest and by no means reflects the attitude of all black, white, or any other race of player, poster, human being-living or deceased- here to for associated with the NBA, Ultimateknicks.com, or any of the said propertie's ownership group.....er...posse.....er...stable...er business associates....er...ownership thingy.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

In the summer Phil was talking about that they all thought it was better for KP to be with some veteran players who can still play with some star power as it would help his development. Most didn't think that, but so far that is exactly what has transpired. Knicks play to win every game, are competing (5-6), porzingis has a usage rate of 24 same as last year. Meanwhile due to now the added penetration skills on this team, KP is getting so many better looks at the basket. He's figured himself how to be effective as a scorer setting screens with guards just like Dirk does in Dallas. Pretty amazing.

EnySpree @ 11/17/2016 7:52 AM

I said it in the game thread.... this was the first game where Kristaps showed that twinkle in his eye and was looking to kill whoever tried to guard him. Up until now Kristaps has been just playing within the flow. Even when he scored 20 points. It was never an aggressive game. He just shied within the flow. Last night he was thirsty for blood!

Even though I say that, he had so many opportunities where he didn't realize he was open. He faked himself a few times in that second half. He could have gotten 50 last night.

But bruh.... this days are coming. This is the Kristaps yo mama warned you about. Hide your women!!! We literally witnessed the future of the New York Knicks!

nyknickzingis @ 11/17/2016 7:55 AM
After 22-22 the team last year couldn't compete and it showed. We finished 10-28 to close the season. Many say Noah and DRose were not good moves, yet we are much better than the 10-28 finish this team had. The dribble penetrations and guard skill on this team has helped KP so much. That's why he credits his teammates. He knows he wasn't getting these looks with Galloway, Grant or Calderon last year. And Lopez was a very solid player but most effective as a screen setter or post up player. Noah is like a point guard out there looks to pass the ball and set up his teammates. Again another vet who would facilitate KP.

Its not about getting looks.... Kristaps was taking his own looks last night

BRIGGS @ 11/17/2016 8:26 AM
We need to keep KP around 30 minutes. I cant justify riding him 40 minutes. Tonight they need to keep him at 26-27 max. He took a whack last night on that alley oop hes going to be hurting this am. This is a slog not a sprint--we need to keep CA and KP closer to 30 minutes.

That said what a great player

Well you need those easy buckets to get over 30 pts. It's all part of getting into a groove. Don't dismiss that fact that KP can't be focused on by any defense with so much talent around him. The ball and player movement is opening up so many great scoring opportunities. KP has developed his handle and can't be stopped one on one. Those looks are coming from the space created by having better guards around him.

Jeff is effectively spreading teams out and with the better spacing and guards that can penetrate there's no way that teams can stop KP. That's what nyknickzingis is saying.

This was a Breakout game for KP. You can't limit his minutes in a game like that. Jeff is no fool. He knows that minutes need to be managed. You can't stifle a performance like KP was having tho.

The two buckets that Rose got late in the 4th were critical in regards to your comment in bold. He was totally alone from 8-9 feet away for an easy toss in. You really need the 3rd scorer and Rose looks great in that role.

forgot the url but read this this morn regarding KP:

He did a little bit of everything, and in the process he became the first Knick to score 35 or more before the end of his age-21 season in nearly 70 years.

Yeah I really have been pleased with the INSTINCTS of the entire team in sensing when they should pass or shoot. They have been passing freely and looking for the teammate that has the best advantage. But when the defense isn't paying attention a guy like Rose can bite them in the ass with timely drives.

How much fun is it to see the team's chemistry developing? The cuts off the ball are getting better and they're hitting the cutters better. There was less standing around and looking like a Deer in headlights. They're showing they have a much better idea of what they're trying to do on both ends. It's very heartening to see this team get past the shaky start of the season.

He was having fun out there. His teammates were having fun watching him go off. I think last year we got a glimpse of how good he and Melo are together, but we had troubles getting them on the court together and outside of a good first half from AA and a good 2nd half from Lopez there wasnt much help. Now KP has a year under him, he and Melo are healthy, We have the legit #3 scorer in Rose, rest of the cast is better/deeper and I think we are starting to see the team simply coming together.

This is right. Adding some veteran talent was always the way to go. KP is growing at his own rate, and fortunately, that rate is very fast. But he still doesn't have lot of pressure on him with Melo and Rose. They aren't afraid to handle the criticism either when the team is under performing. We still have no idea what this season will bring, but getting talent this summer was the right idea. We have our draft pick either way, and we will build this team around KP either way. Only difference is he has the ability to decide when its his team, Knicks didn't decide that for him.

Kristaps frequency of isolating is very low. He's a team ball player. He's a big guy. He's got great shooting guard skills for a player his size, but Jennings and Rose have helped him. Now that the Knicks have guards that can actually be a threat to penetrate a defense, teams leave Kris on screen sets and give him space. If we had the same guards as last year, Kris would still be a better player and doing damage but he would be less effective because teams could stick a guy on him at all times, knowing the guards won't be a threat on drives. I saw a lot of that last year. Nowitzki used to drive teams crazy with Jason Terry, Steve Nash, Nick Van Excel, Jason Kidd. We haven't gotten KP a truly great guard who can shoot, pass and drive (Our 2 PGs can drive and pass but not shooting threats off screens) but what we do have is major improvement.

He can make a living now off screen setting up high and just his own motion or movement in the offense. It's fantastic to watch. The game is so much more open now for him. Hornachek, the point guards, is what this kid needed. Not saying he hasn't shown he can create baskets himself, obviously he has improved there as well. I can only imagine what this kid could do with a point guard like Stephen Curry. If Kris sets up high with Curry, I know Curry has a fantastic thing in Golden State, but together they would be unbelievably tough to defend.

Rose has helped and so has Jennings, but they can't shoot. So when Kris sets screens they can't maximize that play like a point guard who could shoot could.

I have hope that both Rose and BJ can improve their shooting a bit. Right now they are really struggling and I don't suspect that will be the case for the entire season. There may come a stretch where either of them can get their shot going a bit better. I'm not looking for magical improvement just a reasonable improvement that is normal to expect over the course of a season. Many players go thru cold streaks. Especially guys that aren't pure shooters. They both can shoot better than they have so far tho.
