Two things I noticed:
1.) He is contesting a shooters line of sight, not the trajectory of the shot. Is this deliberate? More often than not, it looks like he could block the shot directly instead of just blocking the view of the shooter.
2.) Maybe more a thing for the off season I think. I think he needs a back to the basket game a la Dirk. Especially in the last two games vs Lakers and Suns, they were switching everything in pick and rolls. After the switch, KP gets the guard on his back and often gets the ball in good high post position.
After receiving the ball, he is always trying to face the guard up, instead of backing him down. He is able to hit a shot with a small right under him, but I would think, a back down with a fade away would be more effective and force a double team all the time.
3.) Get better with passing out of the double team. He is already not bad with that, but especially when he is on, like vs the Suns, he is still trying to do to much and loses the ball in the process.
All that said, he is way ahead of anything we could have ever hoped for him. And he is progressing on the run in a way I have rarely seen by any player in any sports. There was no real hole he was in this first 1 1/4 of his NBA career. Whenever it looked like he hit a wall, he quickly adjusted. Good things will come for the Knicks!
Good Post Steve. I would really like him to spend a summer with hakeem. He probably still needs to add some bulk but not too much that would lose his speed which is a great asset for a guy his size. Other than that it feels great to finally have a young superstar on the rise
KP just needs to get stronger. He still gets pushed around, which is why he loses the ball sometimes on his drives.
I love his handle now and can prefer he face up instead of backing in. That stagnates ball movement, is predictable and double comes blindside. Why have him be like every other big when he has talents they don't have?
He can shoot just about over anyone that gets switched on him. His handle if you notice, he does not dribble a lot but it allows him to square up for a shot.
I like the knicks are keeping him in the parameter and letting his body fill in organically. he is also quick this way.
Not saying he is perfect, but there is no rush to push him.
He's going to get better at everything. He will be unstoppable in the post and won't have these slumps in a few years.

The slumps will occur. They should be shorter though.

Correct, i just meant exactly what you said, they will be shorter and less evident.
I want a training with Dirk this summer, if he can learn the effectiveness of Dirks turnaround or learn a good fadeaway that is a huge asset and his shot is near unblockable
Develop a sky hook. With his height it would be as unstoppable as Kareem.
They could give KP more down screens so he can get more clean looks. I agree he should face up more! A hook shot would be KILLER.
One of his biggest problem is when he has a smaller player against him , kp shoots away from the basket , like a fade away instead of bullying the smaller player and shoot closer to the basket. Much easier shot. Olajawan(sp?) could do wonders for KP.
Been screaming about his post-up game forever... he has to be able to punish a smaller man guarding him...not only get baskets but draw fouls.
As some have also mentioned- he need to work with a Hakeem or McHale to develop a classic game in the post. Would love to see a sky-hook...not sure Kareem is still able to coach but I would try to see.

You took the words out of my mouth. I don't care how great a defender Draymond Green is, dude is
maybe 6'7" and KP is 7'3". Either we did a poor job getting him the ball in the post or he did a poor job establishing position in the post (I think it was the latter). He does a great job making less coordinated bigs play him on the perimeter, he's gotta learn to take advantage of smaller bigs in the paint. In fact, didn't Eric Bledsoe block his shot in the post two nights ago?
Stop the stupid fouls early in the game, and win a game without DadMelo.

Some good points. Think, right now, he just goes with what he is comfortable with. Have said it many times that he seems to have grown up watching and admiring guards and 3's play. Although he also admired Dirk. He sometimes looks like a kid that that had a huge growth spirt without knowing it. However, you are right, he is way ahead of the curve. Think that if he implemnents a down low game and learns to play by using his height advantage, he will be an All Star for many years. We all have to remember how young he is and how even gifted talent needs time to implement adjustments. It takes a lot of time and experience to develop these adjustments at the NBA level. Think he will and he has shown that he is ready for the challenge. Many of the things that he does on defense will improve quickly with good coaching. Biggest thing, for me, on defense is that he does not need to jump to block shots all the time. And he needs to stay vertical and extend hands straight up. He gets called on silly fouls when he drops his hands over the offensive player. He is tall enough to block the shot at a higher point after the release. Looking forward to watching him improve in the coming years.
Experience. That is the biggest key for him. He will recognize situations much quicker similar to this year how much better he is at reading defenses than last year.
A great pass first point guard or guard would help him plenty. Many more easy looks. Rose and Jennings are doing well but neither has great ability to create shots for a big on a consistent basis.
Skill wise he needs to work on all things but probably the area he can pick up the most is post up situations. Agreed.
