Karl wrote Anthony and Martin not having fathers in their lives became a detriment to their personalities.

“Kenyon and Carmelo carried two big burdens: all that money and no father to show them how to act like a man,” Karl wrote.

He also mentioned JR... JR and KMart are two guys I cant stand but I totally side with them vs. Karl on this.

this shows an incredible lack of class IMO. Good job laying blame. Good luck with the book. Its gonna be the last paycheck you get from hoops. What an a-hole. Something in life are simply not your business to comment on. Wow... really strikes me as low.

Yeah that specific quote didn't sit right with me at all. Very low class of Karl to go there. You want to talk about him on the court? Fine. I even agree with some of his BASKETBALL critiques of melo. But his (and Kmarts) father? Seriously? What a jackass...
yea... rip him for the defense... fine, but no father to teach him to act like a man? What a classless POS.

Again, I would prefer to see the full context of that comment. On the surface, its pretty personal thing to write about even if accurate.

Meh! Melo like a lot of guys has his flaws but really this is not the end of the world. Kobe wasn't exactly the best guys either but you can win with these guys if you know how to manage it. I think Jeff can possibly do that. He's not caught up in a war with Melo trying to control him. Sometimes you have to BE LIKE WATER!

He said that??? what a asshole prick.. I never like karl, and even if melo played in china, those comments are unacceptable..

George Karl - stfu. Why does he feel the need to keep blasting Melo? Why does he care this much?

Who is Karl? Played at UNC for Dean Smith and in the ABA and NBA.

Coached almost 2000 games, won .588%.

He sits behind only Pat Riley, Jerry Sloan, Lenny Wilkens and all-time record holder Don Nelson, who had 1,335 career wins. Funny, Riley has chips, Wilkens has just one, but the others don't.
Are they great coach's or just have longevity? Given that so few teams historically have won chips, these guys are often refered to as "What have they ever done". Riley and Pop have 5 each, and Phil has 11. That's 21 right there. Not much left for the Karls, Nelsons, Sloans, Dunleavy's and Adelmans. All fell to Phil, Riles or Pop at least once!!!!

Karl is an arsehole and not my favorite, but I respect him. His time with melo, I have to agree that Melo was an immature arrogant punk. While some of you might not like his book, I would be curious who would refute its accuracy regarding Melo and JR smith.

Maybe the same could be said about Lebron, but Lebron is a winner. Don't forget, Lebron has been to the finals SEVEN TIMES!!!!! IN A ROW!!!!!! Winning is forgiving. Melo has had his share of critics for years and most of it correct. Great Scorer no doubt. He has a long list of coach's that his fans can blame for his problems, but fact is some of them are pretty darn successful with years of experience.
Melo is successful as is karl. Both have elongated careers but don't have championships to show for it. Both have made a ton of money.

I was not a fan of the trade as I was not a fan of Melo when it was done. I have come to respect Melo and his effort to round out his game. Not sure he has done all he could do. After all, he owns a max contract, an NCAA chip, a few gold metals and has made over $100 million playing basketball. Karl is 5th all time in wins. Has had some good teams but also ran into some even better enroute. There is a long arse list of very very good coach's that don't get "Great" attached to it because they don't have a chip.

"Phuck" Karl, I suppose he does not have legions of fans, but I won't go there just to defend Melo, who is guilty in my book of much of what Karl says.
Melo can write his own story if he wishes. Bottom line is how many will read the book? I won't. Melo either. They are not of enough interest to me.

Agree with this post in it's entirety. Melo has been attention demanding man-child his entire career. I don't have a problem a with people being stars, but it's when they let it get to their head and affect their game - that's when you need to question their maturity. This was displayed clearly during MDA/Lin win streak and his pouting.

Not playing defense is a a very bad thing. No amount of scoring titles and popularity votes can make up for that. You either play defense or you don't - in his case , he doesn't

No one who sees Melo play ever thought he would be Lebron, but that is thrown into every argument by his supporters. He is not the same level as Lebron, and Lebron's a punk just as well. But like you said, winning NBA titles will shut people up. Players today don't seem to respect the game, their coaches, teammates or the people who come out to support them. This is not unique to Melo but he gets criticized primarily because he has delivered the least and been paid the most to do so and I am NOT talking about individual accomplishments. Lebron is a lot more arrogant than Melo in my opinion. He has taken to dictating terms to how the team should be build, who needs to get paid even to the point of how Kevin Love should change his game. Dude's the most arrogant jerk to have played the game. But he gets away with it because he delivers and he can and does attract the best talent around the league. But basketball as a whole has suffered and continues to suffer.

Karl saying those things about Melo and JR not having a father to show them what to do was way off base. That is not something you put in a book, especially the way it was worded.

I won't read the book either, doesn't seem to well written just from the excerpt. And GK and Melo clearly can't stand each other.

Nothing to see here folks.

How many ex players like George Karl? Seriously if at almost everyone of your stops you run into the same problem with players maybe the problem is not the players but you.

Its kind of funny. Karl is a 2nd tier coach crying about his 2nd tier players. Yawn.

Stars like Ray Allen, role players like Seth Curry...It runs the gamut. Karl has his suppporters for sure and his record speaks for itself. But the guy has been a cancer at nearly every stop he's been. I'll take this book more seriously if he's willing to give a truthful, introspective analysis on his inability to mesh with players on a personal level. I don't want to hear him give excuses about how players these days come from urban environments, single parent homes etc. That's just lazy and would explain alot if those are the broad strokes he viewed his players under.

In our world today where Trump is our President and the Kardashians are making millions of dollars in ad money on twitter and other social media platforms..NBA stars are chasing the Kardashians for the spotlight..Kayne's antics are the rage...Players now talking about their brands...Is this really an insult at this point??..Melo married a TV star and moved to NY..Yeah, he embraces the spotlight...All true, And??

The biggest take away for me is that, in an accomplished coach like Karl's book, about his career and his experiences, excerpts about Melo is the only thing people care about...Melo should be paying him for the exposure...If 30 reporters show up at Melo's locker after the game to talk about this, is he really upset???..No..KP is now learning what Stardom looks like...I don't think this matters as it would 10/15 years ago..Karl and his comments are dated..

I imaging something like this:
Karl: So why do they call you Boogie?
Cousins: Phuck off.
Karl: Good talk.

So why is he getting a pass for using the word posse to refer to jr smith and his comrades , could it be cause no one really cares what he has to say? good luck with ya book George
BRIGGS @ 12/22/2016 2:10 PM
What a pure loser
Guy had cancer just a few years ago and seems like everyone was sympathetic as they should be to that problem

Lebron stated his group are his advisors. Truth to that.
JR might have been his friends, club friends, goons, enablers, etc. Did JR roll into clubs with his accountant?
Lebron feels like it belittled his group.
I'd be curious to what JR called his group? What was its make up? This is why he sort of gets a pass.

Is Melo really not guilty of most of what Karl is saying? Basically, if you disagree with the book, then most should not read it.
At the same time, Karl might have felt he has been miscast given his stops. If he is such a loser, why do so many teams turn to him and why was his results so good?
He was abrasive, and of another era. He played for Dean Smith, played professionally, was an assistant, was a head coach, then went to the CBA like Phil, and then made it back to the pro's.
He is outspoken and I would imagine blown away by how entitled some players are. A book about x's and o's would not sell.

I would imagine he has lots of opinions about lots of players but media knows how to get its readers angry.

And some of you are paying retail for it!!!

so in order for a group of black men not to be considered a posse they have to be accountants? so if a group of shelf stockers go to a club they a possee? or mechanics ? or any other jobs? dont mean to rehash it sorry

What an @ss. The guy has his own issues. A buddy of mine covered him part time as a reporter when he coached the Warriors. He had a lot of demons as a younger man. Not sure why he would go there or what right he thinks he has to go there. I hope he doesn't get a ton of interviews about his book and he is out of basketball for good now.
Uptown @ 12/23/2016 12:01 AM
Fluck Karl...im a current coach and no way would i ever throw one of my former player players/students/sons under the bus for a buck. My players are famyly members regardless...i would never sell one of them out...and the comment about the lack of a father figure was low class...

Ray Allen? That's not my understanding or what I've heard and read. I thought he said Karl ran him out of town in Milwaukee? Seth Curry? Lets be real, who cares if insignificant role players like a coach?
meloshouldgo @ 12/23/2016 10:28 AM
I still don't understand what is offensive about the word posse. It refers to a group of people.
I think our society now had so many alternate realities it is impossible to not offend someone everytime you open your mouth. I stick up for people being discriminated against all the time, but do we have to start policing the use of common words in english?
GustavBahler @ 12/23/2016 10:38 AM
Did Karl have any excuses for his Sonics first round choke job? For the fact this his teams went nowhere after the Melo trade? Karl was a very good regular season coach, but he couldnt cut it in the playoffs. Guess Karl thinks blaming Melo will paper that over.
