Knicks · I wonder if giving Oquinn 35 minutes would give us a fourth type player (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 12/26/2016 10:49 AM
who can score 15 points and take pressure off the other scorers? Play Willy G as KPs back up and Noah as Oquinn back up.

Then we can sit and look to see if we can find a 6xth man on the cheap---Rudy Gay?? Maybe he will be bought out?

Vmart @ 12/26/2016 11:45 AM
BRIGGS if this team doesn't play defense they aren't going any where. It was embarrassing how easily Boston was scoring.

You just need to play better defense. You have to get out on your man. Its isnt personnel--its scheme. Need to play harder and smarter on that end.

Vmart @ 12/26/2016 12:03 PM
If Rudy Gay becomes available then the Knicks have to get him. He is good enough that he can play sg.

The defensive struggles are coming from pure lack of communication and effort. I mean I watch that game twice. What I notice is that teams that make the extra pass kill us over and over.

Were a good rebounding team, but were shooting 29% when it comes to 2nd opportunities.

We have a very good roster as is, but too many ISO players, KP, ROSE, and MELO.

I hate to say it but KP is quickly becoming a product of mentorship program.

Melo and Rose are not very good defensive players. The other 3 on the floor has to cover for them. That is why KP is getting exposed right now because he is always helping. Last year we had Lopez to also protect the lane...Noah is not that type of defensive player.

Unless they trade Lee it is unlikely the `Knicks have the salary to make a trade for Gay without involving O'Quinn and they need O'Quinn. I don't think it is smart to move O'Quinn for a player w an opt out.

James Johnson maybe an option. He is definately an upgrade over Thomas and plays strong defense but I would have reservations about him being able to keep his 3pt% up. This would be a career high for him if he continues to shoot this well.

Actually Rose and MELO take too many defensive possession off. They could be really good at times, and then other times your like Cmon, stop being fckng lazy.

If Melo could transfer his offensive enthusiasm to the defensive side of the ball Melo would be up for DPOY.

Will he miss as many defensive assignments as he missed shots?
Then he will get stops 37% of the time...
But isn't it what he already does?

You know you guys need to stop blaming Melo for every damn thing that goes on with this team. All of the Knicks were screwing up on defense. The center that came in for Boston in the third and fourth quarter and scored all those points was not Melo's man. The three pointer at the end of the game was not Melo's man. The defense as a team sucks. So stop blaming one person. If they don't get a real defensive assistant coach in here and someone like Demarcus Cousins at center we are going to have a difficult time in the playoffs.

Exactly as you say but if you main guy doesn't show defensive exuberance the team will follow. Patrick Ewing gave his heart and soul on both ends. Watch LeBron huffing and puffing to make effort on both ends of the court.

But your right the entire team played crappy. You guys want players to lose focus on the defensive side play one on one basketball and you will see other player not be so involved in the defense.

nyknickzingis @ 12/26/2016 7:00 PM
Noah has been playing very well the last week. I do agree Noah encourages 1 on 1 play because he isn't a threat to score and thus allows guys to not want to pass to him unless he is wide open under the basket.

But it's more on Melo and Rose. They both draw so much attention. However both are me first shoot first players. They don't like to pass the ball unless it's the direct assist. That's why the offense bogs down when opposing defenses are active.

Still we played a bad game on offense and still wound up dropping 114 points. Defense is our bigger issue by far.

Good points. Someone, Breen?, was saying that Noah is a rhythm player and had not been able to get the consistent minutes he needed to get into a rhythm. I think he is there now or at least a lot closer.
