New to the site. Can't help but question why we resigned him. Phil Jackson could have really built this team with more winning players, something Carmelo has never showed to be good at. He's an advanced stat nightmare, completely ineffective in win contribution and he costs us most of our salary cap. I did an analysis of this a few years ago and recently updated it. Would love to hear people's thoughts.

We resigned Melo cause Dolan wanted people to pay the high as f**k ticket prices and that requires a marquee star. Phil drafting KP does allow for some wiggle room going forward because the star player is here. With that said Phil has definitely made some bad signings (Noah). So fans have the right to question his moves in general.
No. Knicks will not win with Melo.
They are more that 2 years away from winning.
And Melo will not be around then.
Melo made a business decision to take money over winning.
Dolan made the same decision because he does not give a rat a..sss about Knicks winning.
Both are vise businessmen and made a lot of money from this contracts.
Fans partially financed and consumed the sh..ty product, and still do.
Fans do not control the action so we will be ripped granted.
One can hope that some day Knicks winning and MSG profits will aliened together as it happened with Rangers.
We'll going to see...
Not a title. I think most will agree knicks still need to add pieces which may take another 1-2 years and by that time he will be 34 ir 35 with a lot of minutes on his legs.

Melo if not overworked can still provide some of this pieces when he will be traded at the end of his contract.
Hopefully he will be still able to play and maintain some NBA value.
Knicks need to a take good care about him and not force him to play big minutes or some rigid defense for the sake of winning couple more games here and there.
We will need him body able in 2 years.
He's 32 and has a lot of miles on him, so the answer to whether or not Melo can lead us to a title would be no, but that doesn't mean he couldn't play his part if the roster was good enough from top to bottom to get to the finals.
Unfortunately for the Knicks, there wasn't a bump in Melo's numbers this season from the Olympics, wasn't realistic at his age, with his recent history of injuries. If I had a prescription for Melo, it would be to gradually become a better catch and shoot player, use screens more effectively, use them to cut down on the contact, wear and tear.
I hope they can but I tend to agree with Gustav. Skimmed your article and I thought it was well written. If you are interested in having your blog on the home page you should contact Martin and Andrew. This is the best spot for that.

Melo can be valuable on an ensemble cast. Olympic Melo was great. We can win with, but he is not Lebron or Jordan.
The whole point of drafting KP was to have a Franchise Player to build around. Melo was kept to take some of the pressure off KP and I still think that has value. KP is still growing into his frame and if Melo wasn't here they may have already blown the kid out by now. It's not about winning with Melo as if everything of importance is based on winning while Melo still had the ability to carry a team. IMO once they drafted KP the clock was reset and the future of the team was naturally going to be based on KP. What we're doing right now is a soft reset in KP's early years.
Also we've learned a lot about the roster over these 37 games. We can see light at the end of the tunnel with some of our young guns. We now know pretty much what we have from the vets. Melo, Rose, Noah, Lee and Jennings are not going to be strong enough to carry this team very far unless the young players continue to develop and take on more of the load. The losses on 2nd games of back to backs is making that crystal clear. Still there's enough time for this team to get something going and to get back into the playoff standings in the East. If they can get into the playoffs that's good for the young players to get that kind of experience. That's good enough for me if that happens.
Can phil ever put the right pieces in place to ever win. You guys keep talking about melo, we have a very serious issue fouling and playing perimeter defense

No not unless he joins Lebron James who drags him to a title. That or we somehow draft a steph curry with our lottery pick
Of course they can win, but Melo has to be the teams second or third best player. It already shows when KP is able to dominate defensively, allows Melo to just relax and score at his own pace.
Right now the problem is athleticism around Melo and KP. We don't have enough Lance Thomas types at PG, SG, C. Guys that simply defend hard, shoot the open shot from outside or make the simple play.
I still have faith that if KP continues to grow as a player, he and Melo can win. However they would need better defense around them and KP would need to defend better and smarter. When KP anchors and defends well we are pretty much unbeatable. However KP is still learning how to be an impact defender in every match up. Many match ups they take away KPs effectiveness on defense.
If Melo accepts to be 2nd fiddle then yes...he has a good chance. Rose also needs to change his mentality. A shoot first PG is really bad for this team.
Win what is the question. We can be a winning team. Only 1 team wins a title each year, and Melo, in his prime, was a step below a guy you can expect to compete for a title with as your best player year in and year out. But in the next couple of years, he could be a valuable offensive role player on a winning team. He can still get his 25 ppg whenever, but i would like to see him transition to a 17-18 ppg catch and shoot player who cuts out most of the iso crap. If he can do that, he can be a high-level contributor to a winning team at this stage in his career.
No, of course we can't win with Melo. what a stupid azz question. I mean, this franchise was steaming straight to a chip for years before Melo got here, and all we did with this putrid, self-centered DOUCHE was:
1) drag a team full of pure sheehit to the playoffs
2) actually win a playoff series for the first time since Spree-Ewing.
3) win 54 games and the division
4) manage to keep the commissioner from having to run our franchise for us.
5) re-sign with the franchise even before Phil found the latest unicorn/savior, when the franchise can't attract flies, let alone other first tier talents.
yes, we should tank since we can't beat the Cavs or the Warriors.
I mean, everyone else on the team is hitting game winning shots every week, right?

LOL
jrod---how many posts have you made that have the "win 54 games" with Melo. Only you Dolan and a few of his highly paid yes men believe that you can throw a few vets around Melo and win 50 games. Well yes if you throw westbrook around him--sure. But a non star? ah well here is the proof
2016-17 Knicks 17-20 .459 11th, East Conference - -
2015-16 Knicks 32-50 .390 13th, East Conference - - DNQ
2014-15 Knicks 17-65 .207 15th, East Conference - - DNQ
2013-14 Knicks 37-45 .451 9th, East Conference - - DNQ
In the 4 years after we won 54 games we are well under .400--there is nothing better to deal with the truth than facts. Not conjecture or wishful thinking--facts. You watch the games--you think this team is good? It doesn't even have a chance to be good because they give up too many points. They work on it and work on it and REGRESS! They simply do not have the talent to play winning basketball as is. Not happening. So either get Westbrook or somebody like that or trade the selfish Melo--selfish coming here and now selfish not to leave---he doesn't really want a chip at 33--because Im sure there are other teams it better position to get him there or at-least try. This Knicks team is a lottery team"as is"--just watch.

LMFAO
BRiggS -- I can post about half the amount of Melo eats sheehit, Melo is a cancer, Melo is a loser, the Trade was unlubricated rape, blah blah blah posts.
Was I talking about losing with Melo? Really nice of you to omit these facts from your little table:
2012-13 Knicks 54-28 SemiFinal Round
2011-12 Knicks 36-30 1st Round
2010-11 Knicks 42-40 1st Round
2009-10 Knicks 29-53 DNQ
2008-09 Knicks 32-50 DNQ
2007-08 Knicks 23-59 DNQ
2006-07 Knicks 33-49 DNQ
2005-06 Knicks 23-59 DNQ
2004-05 Knicks 33-49 DNQ
Notice the difference? So the question is, will the Knicks ever win with Carmelo? Past performance not guaranteeing future results cuts both ways, BRIGGS.
Selfish coming here, and selfish for not leaving. You have a tremendous logic set going for you there.
Funny, a few weeks ago, we weren't a lottery team, were we BRIGGS?
It's not about Melo! This is a TEAM issue. They have to be concerned with improving the overall TEAM and not just one player. Also this team has yet to actually maximize the talent we do have. These guys have been up and down and dealing with minor health issues. This team is still capable of raising its level of play at any time and going on a run. We have to wait and see how things develop and if Phil decides to make any changes.
