I think something is up. Courtney Lee looked distraught when he left the court tonight. The entire team seemed to be very upset.

I think obviously they were unnerved and upset by Rose just not showing up.

That's a clear message to the whole team that the season has gone off the rails.

I can't believe this - last season our coach is canoodling with players' wives and girlfriends, this season our star PG just walks away from the team???

Are we just plain old cursed?

It seems that way. It will be interesting to get the rest of the story with Rose.

It's one thing for Rose who doesn't have a long term commitment here but Melo forced his way here and demanded a NTC, what is he doing? Is this Melo's way of saying he wants out? Otherwise I can't accept just quitting on your team!!!

I have no proof but something tells me Rambis is involved. Just a gut feeling.

All Melo needs to do to say he wants out is to go to Phil and say so. Doesn't need to be abstract about it.

NardDogNation @ 1/10/2017 12:16 AM
It's unfortunate but even if Melo wanted out, where is he going? The two prime destinations for him in seasons past were MIA (with a healthy Wade, Bosh and Whiteside) and CHI; neither of which are currently contenders. I could see him being supremely interested in the Clippers but they are top heavy salary-wise, which makes it difficult to match salaries in a trade without giving up a player that is superior to Melo at this point. The same can be said about Cleveland who are unlikely to part with a core member of a championship team.

Melo would have to be really open-minded if he seeks greener pastures. The only two franchises that make sense at this point are the Raptors and maybe the Celtics but I'm not sure if they offer enough limelight to satiate Melo's off-court interests. They are, however, relatively close to NY so maybe it works itself out. I definitely could see a Demarr Carroll, Terrence Ross and a 1st or Poetl being beneficial to both teams if Melo agrees to play the 4 for them. Maybe we can also get them to take Joakim Noah in the deal!

Our 2 main players both quit on the team in the same damn game!

No, Melo is not going anywhere we know it.
ESOMKnicks @ 1/10/2017 5:20 AM
Melo still has a couple of years of potentially great bball in him. But not here. Things have gone too far. Both he and NY need a fresh start, so best for both to part ways.

A couple of first rounders from a playoff team plus expiring contracts is the very max we can get for him now.

And then we are still stuck with Noah's albatross contract for another three years. Jackson's version of Jerome James.

He would agree to go there.

What would we get from the Clippers SMH..Terrible suggestion

Nothing, they have nothing. The only way the money works is Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford. Even if it was a 3 team trade who wants that. Miami has Draguc, Rose and a our pick for Dragic and D Williams

You are starting to see the light, and it ain't a pretty sight.

I have never been a Melo hater. In fact, I have always hoped he could be the one to deliver a championship to the Knicks. But wow, has his rep fallen to a point where his fans are turning against him too. His attitude this season, whether winning or losing, has been childish, selfish and detrimental to the team. He used to be our main gun when we needed one. Now? he is one of the main reasons we lose.

His attitude reeks of a man that is tired and wants out. You do, Melo? Excellent! lets make that dream come true.

anrst @ 1/10/2017 9:12 AM
so embarassing that he quits on the team by getting ejected (yet again) on the day rose also quits.

pathetic losers.

nice to have these veterans around to show KP how it's done.

GustavBahler @ 1/10/2017 9:32 AM
Melo might have an NTC but he's acting like someone who wouldnt mind waving it. He's been ejected more than Boogie Cousins. Always thought of Melo as a flawed but elite scorer. Thought he got too much blame for the crappy teams that mgmt surrounded him with for the most part in NY. But in this situation, he is 100 percent at fault.

Wouldn't mind Melo waiving his no trade clause, as long as its not another rushed, crappy deal like we got for Ewing. If this is how its going to be all season, Id rather sit Melo, let him get healthy, then try to find a contender that he would agree to get traded to. If we could trade Rose, Noah, and Melo, by next season, I'd be very happy. Start the rebuilding process in earnest.

SwishAndDish13 @ 1/10/2017 9:49 AM
People can post about the NTC all they want, but the reality is that any trade that doesn't actually kill the Knicks is not allowed under the CBA. The proposed Thompson deal which makes no sense for GS from a roster construction perspective isn't a possible trade under the CBA.

A Griffin trade is at least possible under the CBA if you have a few other pieces in there to make it work. People need to accept that trading marque players under these CBA rules is nearly impossible. We can blame Melo but there's maybe 3 or 4 teams that compete in the league and minimal realistic ways for other teams to improve. Why would he waive the no trade clause to go to some random city and not be able to compete?

Bonn1997 @ 1/10/2017 10:04 AM
Have we reached the point yet in the new CBA where people were assuring us that Melo's contract would be a bargain? Or is that next year?

Your making way too much sense for these guys. Their heads are still spinning as to why Jimmer didn't make the All Star team.

You think Melo would turn down the chance to live in California and play with Durant, Green, and Curry?!?! And he has a 15% trade kicker - so he'd get about $10 mil extra if he agreed to this (or any) trade.

That had to be more in response to the assertion that it's easy to just say "lets trade him" when he has all the power. At least I think. The warriors wouldn't trade Thompson for Melo so I doubt Knix even took that seriously.

With that said, pretty much done with Melo after last night. There was nothing about what he did last night that isn't shameful. It was even commonly agreed on the post game that Melo got himself tossed on purpose. I just wish they blasted him like they do other guys on the team. Disgrace.

Melo gets more than his fair share of roasting. I would even say it's irrationally high most the time given the rosters we've put together during his time here. My biggest concern out of this is that most modern players has zero interest in dealing with that which makes NY an unpopular destination.

In regards to the trade which is the topic at hand, the CBA is arguably a bigger problem than the NTC. If trades like that were manageable they could at least ask him for a list and try to do something. Other than LAC, I can't think of many plausible trades that are even possible and he would accept.

It was more a response to the claim people have made over the past 3 years that Melo's contract would one day be a bargain. I never bought it. The Knicks overpay for almost all their players, and then fans wonder why the roster has so many holes.

Interesting that they 'overpaid' and gave the ntc. I thought the ntc was in response to Melo giving a little bit back.

You have no idea what Melo's real economic impact on the Knicks are to assess value of such a contract...I would venture to say he must be more than a bargain given TV deals that were able to signed at increased rates in 2013 during and after the 54 win season..And tell me they were willing to pay more because of Jason Kidd..These business men were more than willing to re-up his agreement weren't they...

The fact that people still tune in to watch these soft candy arse players Phil brought in who play with no passion and pride should be a testament to his value as a player...
