^ make that trade but include bostons pick this year (which has the brooklyn swap to it) and Brooklyn's pick next year. Keep O'quinn, Maybe look to trade Lee for another late first rounder and start the rebuild right....

Why would the Cavs downgrade their team to do this trade? They need the spacing and rebounding from Kevin Love more than any iso scoring from Melo.

I think Melo is a better 3 pt shooter if not worrying about being the man. A lot of his bad habits kicked in when he realized KP was injured. The trade also with with Kyle O'quinn being sent to the Cavs too.

Personally, I could see the Pistons giving up Stanley Johnson and filler for Lee AND Thomas, which I'd be inclined to do. Johnson may be a huge disappointment offensively but I still find myself intrigued with his potential as a point-forward and elite perimeter defender.

If you are looking for a point forward with elite defensive potential, miles bridges is an awesome prospect who could possibly be had in our draft range.

If we're rebuilding, I'd be looking at one of the elite PG's in the draft instead and what it'd take to position ourselves to select one of them. I think that it has become self-evident that the path to becoming a true contender begins with an elite PG, so drafting one should be our primary concern. As much as I like Stanley Johnson, my affinity for him comes from his ability to be a more compelling talent/trade chip than Courtney Lee and Lance Thomas.

Mine would be...

1.) Melo to LAC for Austin Rivers, Wesley Johnson, Paul Pierce, their 2021 first round pick (unprotected) and pick swaps in 2020 and 2022.

2.) Courtney Lee and Lance Thomas to DET for Aaron Baynes, Stanley Johnson and salary filler.

Chris Bosh will likely have to medically retire at some point in the near future. Moving Melo to Miami ( if he waives his NTC) to be with Winslow in what amounts to a contract dump, would seem like a practical move. Bosh can then medically retire with the Knicks and Zinger would have some clear path to actual development.

Getting assets for Melo is too hard a road. He has a NTC and wants to both be paid and go to a winner plus be in a large market. This only happens in what amounts to a contract dump. For the Knicks, this would be addition by subtraction.

You can't save any hope for Melo being anything but the selfish shot jacker he has always been in his career, what is at stake is Zinger's development. The longer Melo stays, the more chance that Zinger never becomes what every Knicks fan hopes he can be.
