Lebron is a great player and he also have some haters. He is one of the greatest. But something is missing. New York is the meca but we seem to never get close to a ring. What kind of hero would Lebron be? How would you feel about that.

arkrud @ 2/1/2017 12:03 AM
1994 Gretzky redux?...
LeBron alone will not make it... We need to get Irving too... and together with KP they will win it all.
Imagine that!!!
crzymdups @ 2/1/2017 12:07 AM
He's already one of the top 5 to ever play the game...

LeBron James is a once in a generation athlete.

He is also a blithering non charismatic idiot with the press. He's also possibly the dumbest defacto GM in any sport. ( I mean even Michael Jordan isn't this horrible)

Would he win a ring in NY? Depends on what Nike would do for him. The NBA generates a massive amount of revenue from sponsors and advertising and commercials, but those mega deals with the networks is the big coin. Who supports those networks? Corporations like Nike, who have spent countless millions on paying LBJ to be their face of basketball marketing and spent even more to clean up his messes in public.

Nike wants a return on it's investment. When Guiliani went after the mob, did anyone fully believe he was going to fail? The government spent MILLIONS and these were high profile cases. Some goombah was going to jail, no matter what. When you make a massive investment, you want a return on it.

Nike pressures the league, the league directs its refs, the refs basically let LBJ operate on his own level of discretion.

You can win any game 8 on 5. You can't win 5 on 8.

Watching Sacramento get hosed by the Heat, because David Stern said so, was one of the most shameful things ever in the history of modern sports. Dwayne Wade could have carried a shotgun out there, gunned down a couple of Kings players, and those Kings players would have been called for fouls and Wade would be shooting free throws as those dead bodies would be dragged off the court.

LBJ has never won a championship because of LBJ. He's won because Nike says so.

David Stern saved the NBA by marketing it to the individual player, but he ruined the integrity of the game itself when players worried more about shoe deals than team basketball.

LBJ is a test case, IMHO, of how far a player can self inflict on himself while simply be bailed out by a mega corporation invested in seeing this player get a ring.

Does anyone think LBJ was going to stay unmarried with children out of wedlock? You think Nike wanted that?

Something should tell you what's wrong with sports when Tiger Woods holds a press conference to apologize to his sponsors for cheating on his wife.

Yes, if LBJ came to NY, the Knicks would have a championship. David Stern has created a legacy that the "narrative" matters more than the game itself. LBJ winning a ring in NY is a good marketing storyline, that's all that matters.

Oprah Winfrey was rumored to buy the Clippers before Steve Balmer carried it away. Do you think the Clippers would win a championship with Oprah Winfrey ( who could literally drive 10 million women into being instant NBA fans)? Have you ever seen a player shoot 80 free throw attempts in a game. You would if Oprah owned the franchise.

Sadly, the game cares less about team basketball and more about what is marketable. Melo's relentless desire to be "brand" worthy over winning is a byproduct of this toxic culture of entitlement.

LBJ got dunked on in a basketball camp. He had Nike pull the tape. He had Nike try to conceal it even happened. That's the real LBJ. Having a ring doesn't make you a winner or a champion.

So the Cavs are gonna trade him to us? Or he's going to sign here as an FA in 2018 when he's in his 16th season? The ship sailed on this a long time ago. Lebron like all smart FAs knew to stay far away from anything Dolan runs.
EnySpree @ 2/1/2017 7:56 AM
Lebron went to the Finals a billion times straight.... nobody cares. People have to be reminded. He won 2 in Miami... do you even remember them?

If a Knicks team won the championship they would still be talking about it 30 years from now. Not just Knicks fans. Everyone from that generation.

Gudris @ 2/1/2017 7:57 AM
Carmelo biggest problem is that his play does not make other teammates better, but worse, his style of play takes away flow, energy and motivation from team, yes sometimes he have a hot hand, but that does not guarantee team victory because basketball is a team game/play. Puck Melo

That's Melo in a nutshell. He needs a alpha point guard to motivate everyone else. Melo is not changing his game.

At this point he needs to go somewhere there already is winning established. If he never lifts his no trade clause he needs to open himself up to being apart of building around Kristaps. As long as Melo is healthy he's going to be Melo. As we build, he might eventually find himself coming off the bench.

NBA fans more than any other define players based on chips. I get it, and Lebron likely won't eclipse Jordan's 6.
Problem is it don't even compare to Bill Russells 11. HE was the best player on those teams.

Acdtually Jordan is tied for 10th on the all time list.

Lebron has played in 7 straight finals. He is 3-4 in those series. I'd say the first in Miami was a debacle and heat should have won. His first series with Cav's he carried them in and was embarrassed. Second time in finals Injuries to Cav's is main reason GSW was able to come back from being down to win. As a player I am convinced he is a singularly the best non big man to dominate the game. The many great Celtic teams, the Bulls two three peat's, Show time lakers, the Bird era Celtics.....The Spurs.....All had a long solid core of greats and were better teams. Lebron's playmaking ability to me trump's Jordan. Jordan 6-0 finals is one of those great records of perfection that grow in stature thru the years. Jordan basically took two seasons off which might be construed as "abandoning" or he had a nervous breakdown of sorts, but even he could turn that into "Space Jam" gold. Jordan did his with the same coach. Lebron had 4.

We can go on and on and argue but in current form if Lebron was on this group of knicks I think they come out of the east. As a playmaker he moves the ball. Melo is better than love and while Rose can't shoot like Kyrie, KP can do other things. KP with Lebron would be fun to watch. Our bench would be a bit thicker and we could use some yoot assets to enhance it.

Lebron won't give Jax the time of day, and can't say that phil is a big fan of lebron at this time either. Phil is not about one player sucking the energy from the rest of the team. Phil wants simpatico and every year Lebron is whining/Asking for something.
Lebron cares nothing for his owner or coach if it does not suit his wish.

His wish is to get to the finals. Admirable trait. Hard to deny that.
As for his legend, I really can't say how i'd feel until I experienced it. It might feel a bit shallow. But it would not be a bad thing either.

Lebron is a top 5 of all time.
Rings are not everything. Lebron should have more MVP's. How does a player go to 7 straight finals and not be MVP every season? Playoffs should matter.
Allanfan20 @ 2/1/2017 11:39 AM
LeBron has zero reason to ever want to come here. He could have easily come back in 2010. He showed his true feelings about NY back then. Now, there is even less of a chance we win a championship with him here so kindly state why he would come. He's already a top 5 player. He has his best shot at winning a 4th championship with Cleveland. He's already world famous and can make all the money he wants, right where he is.

Kindly don't be ridiculous. If we want a super duper star, we are going to have to draft him and hope KP continues developing.

Knixkik @ 2/1/2017 12:07 PM
He's already #2 all-time. Winning a title in NY (his 3rd team winning a title for) would probably solidify him as greatest player ever.
newyorknewyork @ 2/1/2017 12:12 PM
Lebron isnt top 5 all time. Lebron is the best player to ever play basketball.

Bwahahahaha...no, he isn't.

MJ is still the best. Second best would be a tough call, and Lebron would be in the running. Kobe, too.

I on't want an LBJ ring. There's no glory in getting jewelry that way.

We need to build a contender and win the NYC way - through grit and determination. THAT is the ONLY thing that will be historic. Might not happen under current ownership. Dolan is poison.

LBJ is the best "All Around" player if all time. Jordan was the best offensive player of all time.

Really...Jordan does have multiple 1st team defensive NBA selections...

Jordan even won Defensive Player of the Year early in his career.

Though I think Lebron's defense is actually underrated.

Lebron can play 4 positions on the basketball court at superstar level. He has done things at 18 yrs old that no one has done at that age and has maintained his longevity. He has done more with less. Bringing Booby Gibson, Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, and Zydrunas Ilgauskas past Billups, Rip, Prince, Sheed, old Webber to get to the finals at the age of 22 etc.
