http://www.nba.com/rookie-ladder8. Willy Hernangomez, New York Knicks
Last week: Not rankedHernangomez was No. 5 in mid-November, fell out of the rotation and out of the rankings. He was No. 9 for two weeks and No. 10 in late-December and as the calendar turned to 2017, fell out of the rotation again and out of the rankings. Maybe it’s safe to try again. Finally getting consistent minutes for an extended period, the 35th pick in 2015 is averaging 9.7 points and 9.9 rebounds while shooting 50 percent the last nine appearances to move to eleventh in the class in scoring, third in rebounding, first in shooting, seventh in blocks and sixth in defensive rating.
GOOD STUFF! Willy has helped to make this season a bit more tolerable. He gives me hope and also makes me look forward to more Draft Picks.

they wont all be this good... No GM drafts perfectly, but certainly KP/Willy are bonafide building block players.
would it be too much to expect Jeff/Phil to start starting him?

At this point i don't think starting him is as important as getting big minutes the rest of the way and going into the offseason with the expectation that he will be starting next season. Some coaches just want rookies to pay their dues. They want to make sure he's absolutely ready to start. Once he starts, you hope to keep him there for a long time.
It's more important who finishes the game

Our consistent 20 point first quarter deficits would disagree with you.

You would hope so but I doubt it. Hernangomez shows flashes of being a decent offensive player and rebounder but he's pretty bad on defense. Sure that can all change but I dont think it will.

I actually thought Willy had one of the higher DRPM in the league for rookies. No rookie is a great defender, but if i'm not mistaken, his defensive metrics aren't bad at all.
