Knicks · Hornacek just earned my respect - stands up for Melo, calls Phil a "distraction" (page 4)

Seems like he has gone back to IsoMelo. Looks mad when he does good, smiles when he misses in close situations. Thats my only complaint, oh, and the winning thing.
I think Phil wants to succeed and if a Melo led team can't make the playoffs with this roster, even with Noah's injuries, then why should we think it would happen the rest of his contract.Complete utter BS...Complete...Melo is Phil's scapegoat for yet again assembling a piss poor ball club with piss poor coaches...We are losing because of ISO-Melo..Then bench him...He is the only reason anyone will tune in or show up at the Garden...
He gave Noah 70 mil...How can that be overlooked???..Could you imagine if we had another back court guy who can defend with that money...Phil is building a team for the 90s...You have your view, and very intent to defend it at every turn. I have mine.
Trade deadline is here. When the best player on your team is a max guy, afforded all the perks that come with that, including a NTC, and your not playing the role, passing the rock, and being the emotional leader, including defense crunch time, then it will drizzle down. If this is the best it gets with Melo and he has backed down on "sacrificing his game", then it is fair to be critical.
If Phil has done everything, including talking one on one and that does not work, then taking it to the public, which has worked with other stars he has had, is what he is doing.
Jeff is the coach. All the things you mentioned would be on the coach but instead many defer to Phil as the object for blame. Every expert in the world at best said this was a .500 team give or take.
Melo is a diva, but one who is doing a great job keeping it close to the vest and playing it cool. For all we got, Im just focused on the game. Thats it. The media is blowing it all up as per norm and many hardcore ultimate type fans need to vent.
In the past, we had little assets to trade or draft picks to use. I see some nice things on the court with the bench. Early in the season it was the subs that were not playing well, now its the some starters.
be it as it may, I don't see anything that phil has done that would warrant calling for his head. All teams/GM's make mistakes. All teams let guys go they should not have or drafted wrong. Then they do good things.Thats been hashed over 1000 times by us. YOu have your opinion and have expressed it very well. Your emotional about your team and it shows. Im a bit more pragmatic which is why I don't go to certain places.
We can't undo the past and Jimmy Dolan has a bad record. As long as we don't leverage the future for a mediocre team to just make the playoffs I am OK with a lot of things. To me Holiday has been as good as Shump and Hardaway (He does get hot somtimes!)
For some reason Phil has enthralled you and you have defended his every move...Maybe it's his books or his 11 rings or you may have a much better understanding of what he is trying to do..I just go by what he has you done since you were where and I'm not impressed...He is bad...One good thing is that he hasn't moved any of our picks..Hopefully we can move on from both Melo and Phil and start anew with fresh thinking that more suitable to how the game is being played right now...But then there is Dolan..Trying to blame one guy to me is just wrong...It's very disingenuous, but that's just me...
JR and Shump help the Cavs win a title and we got squat in return...Hardaway seems to be hitting his stride..Who cares anyway, we are still stuck and suck with Phil...
JR and Shump are untradeable, they have the same value now as they did when they were Knicks- they had a temporary boost when the Cavs made them look good. Hardaway is mediocre, I was never a fan of his- he wouldn't have improved here like he has with the Hawks
I honestly don't hate melo, I've stood up for him many times, but it's just time for him to go (for everyones benefit)- he's a nice guy, but he's just reached a point where he's decided he's just going to play the way he's always played (and thats fine, but it's not what we need) regardless of what his coach or GM wants. I think he could really help at the Cavs win another chip- it's the right environment for him (Clips I don't think is a good fit).
What I'm curious about holfresh, is if you got to see Phil fired now, are you happy with Dolan, Mills and or IT back at the helm? Would you consider that an improvement? Would you then keep Melo or trade him before the deadline? Or would try to tank for a high pick? What would you do differently from Phil? (these are genuine questions)

Hey...at least Phil didn't trade a 1st rd pick!!! Seriously, how damaged and flucked up is our fan base from previous GMS that we are actually giving this man credit for not trading a 1st rd pick? Picks that he could't trade even if he wanted to. Picks that any GM with half a clue wouldnt trade either especially knowing your franchise will probably be in the lottery.
His trades have been awful....He traded Felton, Chandler, JR, Shump, and Hardaway for garbage. We have nothing to show for those moves. Phil has hurt the image of the franchise more than he's helped; meddling with his coaches over that archaic triangle, taking shots at the current NBA style of play, dragging his star player in public. The perception is that he works part time, and doesn't put in the same work as his counter-parts. They were talking about how phil refused to attend several pre-draft camps and workouts that pretty much every GM attends. His only saving grace and hopefully, he can turn into an allstar at some point but thats it. Hernangomez and Kuz are fringe players, not needle movers....

Not to answer for Holfresh...but the problem with Dolan is him seeking diva-like executives with zero or little experience. Isiah had little experience and was coming off a horrible endeavor with the CBA. But he had a big name so Dolan hired him. Bad Move! He hired Phil, another diva with a big name but had zero experience. Another bad move! What we really need is for Dolan to sell the team but we know thats not going to happen. Ultimately, We need a non-diva exec with experience and understands this franchise needs an enema!

But Dolan won't do that- he'll hire a friend! (IT or Mills or Houston)- that's what he always does (except for Walsh who he got rid of ASAP)- you're choice is Phil or a Dolan lackey- thats it! At least Phil understands you don't trade firsts and we have to build via the draft now- elementary shit but something Dolan is incapable of grasping!

Phil is high profile and the NY media loves to think he isn't doing his job. The reality is I bet half the GMs are asleep at the wheel because they don't get the scrutiny that Phil gets. People love to see a winner fail and that is what the Media loves. Phil is doing a decent job with what was given to him. I like the direction the team is headed the future is bright. The team has contracts coming off just need to get Melo to ok a trade and the team is going to be golden.
People are making a big deal out of nothing.

Why does everyone reach back to Isiah a decade ago???..Isiah made some trades when we had nothing on our books to trade...He made some nice draft picks, some say the best given his draft position..Every time I mention something I hear Isiah...I have answered your "genuine questions" directly to you in other threads but maybe you haven't read it...
Phil and Melo has to go..Fans are booing Melo so he is done here..But lets not pretend not to know why we are here..It's Phil running this team like a basketball camp...Sub par coaches that only listens to him...Running a style of play that only he believes in...Bringing in players who are good guys, but talent should be our first focus...He has not committed to either trying to rebuild or win now...Our bench isn't good enough to compete in the playoffs or support a good team for a full season..He hedges everything..He hasn't committed to build anything, short term or long term...I wonder if that kills the players(starters) just knowing that...Everyone knows the bench sucks and cant compete...Everyone..So now the team has imploded it's Melo because is going ISO..Come on man...I wasn't born yesterday...
Phil can sing but he can't dance...He is a great coach, maybe the best all time along with Pop...But he sucks as a GM or what ever his title is...He does not represent the organization well and has always, yes always get the short end on trades... He is now making sure he gets fleeced again with Melo with his antics on social media...He is a diva and thinks he is the smartest man on earth...They joke about it on talk radio...Every time his name is mentioned on the radio, they say, you know we are not smarter than Phil Jackson, he invented basketball..As a result, we are a joke and o one wants to come here...We have no choice now but to rebuild from scratch...I think we will be like the Sixers, Minny, etc and be bad for a long time..At least Melo made the games watchable...We are building a team around players that can't defend their positions...So get ready for lots of losing for a very long time...
