Knicks · EWINGS FINGER ROLL (page 1)

So every time I here Fat Joe's Song "ALL THE WAY UP" and says the line.. "And this time I wont finger roll PAT EWING" I don't know weather to laugh or cry. For me that was the worst defeat ever..

So it had me thinking,

In your opinion was that most crushing defeat you witness as a knicks fan?

SupremeCommander @ 2/22/2017 3:22 PM
I was at that game... so that one takes the cake

A close tie was game 6 and game 7 against Miami in 1997. I was at both of those too and it was the loudest games I've ever been at. That year the Knicks looked like they could knock off Chicago... and I know it sounds crazy but based on the energy at MSG I think everyone believed they could will the Knicks to victory if they were loud enough. I think that was the toughest series loss and the figer roll game was the hardest individual game loss. But, hey, there were a lot of heart breakers to choose from during that era. The 1993 series against the Bulls was hard because after Starks' dunk I thought the Knicks had a legit shot against the Bulls - but looking back that dunk motivated the hell out of the Bulls

That was against Indiana..Big debate was whether he could have dunked it..He couldn't...
holfresh @ 2/22/2017 3:29 PM
Every defeat against the Bulls was crushing...The series where our players got ejected against Miami was crushing..We could have won that series without the ejection...Freaking PJ Brown and Charlie Ward..

We just needed one more legit offensive player to next to Ewing..Just one...

I know and I agree... but I was sitting behind the basket where Ewing shot it... I think the entire arena - but most definitely my entire section - started jumping and cheering in jubilation because we all thought it went in. To go from pure joy to devastation so quickly was unlike any feeling I've ever had before or after

Easy. Gave 6 vs. Rockets. Game 7 wasnt much better.

Imagine, those were the good ol days, compared to now...lol

So many to choose from, especially since I go way back, but even 46 years after the fact, the first thing that came to my mind was Bill Bradley, missing from the corner at the buzzer in game 7 at home vs. Baltimore Bullets in the 1971 ECF. The 52-30 Knicks were the defending NBA Champions (you heard that right)at the time, but couldn't close out the always tough Bullets (Monroe, Unseld et al) 42-40)in game 7. I thought NY was the clutchest team ever and simply unbeatable in any series Whaddya want I was 16) and I was shocked and devastated. Of course Milwaukee (66-16, Kareem, Oscar..) went on to sweep Baltimore, but thing is, the Knicks absolutely had Milwaukee's number that season and had gotten into the Bucks head for sure. In any event, it surely would have been a classic, gripping Finals match-up.

Game five Charles Smith blown layups.
stopstandthere @ 2/23/2017 4:08 AM
There was not enough time for Ewing to dunk it anyway.
JesseDark @ 2/23/2017 10:55 AM
The Charles Smith 3 miss put backs against the Bulls was the worst defeat for me. I was at that game.
SupremeCommander @ 2/23/2017 11:06 AM
this thread reads like a series of uppercuts to the nuts

EWING said that he didn't realize how far he was from the basket when he took off from the foul line like he was Jordan..by then he was in mid air like "Oh SHT im Too far and Too late"

Was it the season before this that the Knicks defeated the Bucks in the playoffs and Kareem was really rattled cause his hometown had turned on him with the boos?
