great a team with zero assets.
Let me guess.....C.Lee for A.Rivers.
Good chance to get out from under Lee' contract. I would need a pick coming back for Lee or no deal...

So Phils strategy is to give big contracts just to get out of them the next year?

Whatever helps us lose this year!

Jeff Teague is the only possible quality free agent on the market for us this off season. We have 2 options, trade guys like Lee and KOQ to try and some more draft picks. Or trade guys like Rose, Jennings, KOQ for quality players with contracts with 1-3 years extra on it that teams want to get away from. Or average to below average players with a year extra for draft picks.
I think Lee is a keeper unless someone really offers a wow deal. You want to keep some veteran players and have continuity. Lee is a good versatile player. Unless he wants out...
if it's Rivers and a pick for Lee I wouldn't be opposed - wouldn't be thrilled either

I'm all for nice veteran role players but not if if it means overpaying them. Plenty of all-stars are making what Lee does. It's nothing against Lee but I don't think he's a bargain on an 8 figure per year salary.

If he wants out, that's one thing. I'd try to avoid trading FA signings in their first year and the reputation that comes with it. May make an exception for Noah...

We don't need help losing this year... Courtney Lee is doing a great job helping us lose. What we do need is extra picks and young players to expedite this rebuild around KP and Willy

plenty? Any all star is going to be paid 2x what Lee makes in this market. Your not making sense

Yeah - I think we walk away from deadline with Rivers/Rubio and maybe another piece or 2.
Rose/Lee....maybe KOQ go bye-bye.
Maybe...just maybe....Boston comes up dry on Butler/George/Gallo --- comes to NY last 10 mins with a deal for Me7o (in my dreams).
Rivers has 1 less year on deal for slightly less $ than Lee.
Rivers turns 25 going into next season and Lee 32.
If Clips offer that deal you do it.
Horny could run out 2 PG (ish) line-up (Rubio/Rivers) and push pace like Phx days --- primary issue being Melo's fat rear-end still being on the roster.
Knicks are clearly rebuilding. Every report says Phil wants picks back in any potential trade. Which is probably the same reason most of these guys won't be traded. There just aren't enough teams willing to trade picks.

Man, if all we got back was Austin Rivers for Lee, you do that deal. One year less on the contract, 24 years old as opposed to 32, and this kid has really made some nice strides this year in a lot of areas.

I think Lee is the superior player but I agree... I would rather our key pieces be of similar ages to KP than to Melo

They make so little compared to the market that contract really doesn't factor for me. I don't see Austin as a starter on a decent team and he would compound our defensive struggles in the backcourt. But if tanking is the ultimate goal, than I say go for it. Lee isn't going to be a factor in any rebuild. I'd rather get a first round draft pick for Lee tho.

That's crazy. There are guys even on rookie contracts who are all-stars. I'm not spending 8 figures on a guy who's a nice role player. You shouldn't spend more than half that on a role player.
Sure, you'll pay a lot if you're talking about signing someone in free agency who is already an all-star. I don't expect us to pull that off. (And if we keep blowing 8 figure salaries on guys like Lee and Noah, it's going to be even harder to get all-stars.)
