Exactly. Either way we lose BUT at least now we have a future to look forward to. We have willy and kp along with all our future picks. Time to build this franchise the right way

Some can pretend to not understand the value of this but we all know they know better. The only reason to keep up this attack on Phil is because of an agenda. If you don't like Phil that's OK, but don't pretend like you don't know how important it's been that he's drafted KP, Willy and added other young players. Don't pretend that it's not a big deal that he's protected our future picks and cap space.

The end of this season is a big deal for the future of the franchise. Today and Tomorrow's games are a key to how they approach the rest of the season IMO. Wins or Losses will determine whether this experiment continues longer or ends sooner. Do they keep up the dream of the playoffs or shut that down and fully prepare for this summer.

Running the franchise has much more to it that just winning the games.
MSG is corporation invested in Melo and it was getting very good return in tickets, merchandise, endorsements, commercials, etc.
Melo was retained to continue produce the $$$ at minimal cost to bringing the team back on top basketball-vise.
As KP will became the Malo replacement in commercial value they can slowly faze Melo out.
This is what Phil is tasked to do and I thing he is doing a good job for Dolan.
Phil himself and Rose for this matter have entertainment value by themselves.
And they did not disappoint with all controversy they generated.
Brilliant, briliant entertainment business by MSG. No wonder the value of Knicks at all time high.

Melo was on the radio being asked about tanking. His comments were pretty much in line with how a pro athlete, (even those laboring under the Hinkie model) should approach their craft. Tanking is for fanboy GM Wannabes with a never-ending, morbid fascination for anything shiny.

A wise man once said on this board, pining away to tank because you can't win a chip is like chopping your dick off because you can't eff a supermodel.

I think Phil has been an asshat but, yeah, I'm glad haven't given away draft picks. I do think our record would have been better had the guys that used to make the decisions hadn't given them away by the boatload

and Baker don't underestimate bakers role with this team his defense is electric and charges this team.Kuz is also a great find. my dream situation with the draft in mind.

KP,noah
willy,o'quinn
LT,Kuz
monk,Lee
rose,baker

if we can move melo i wouldn't mind bringing rose back, he really has been playing fantastic lately with KP at the 5. its really been opening up the lanes for him. it also seems the refs got the memo from someone up top to start giving him calls cause he deserves them.

willy is a rebounding machine who is fast and can easily play the power forward position. he also doesn't need the ball to be effective like KP. willy can get rebounds at either position KP will become a double double machine at the 5 he's closer to the basket and you want a 7'3 monster near the basket on defense

I don't think anyone is saying they don't like KP or Willy. But Phil kind of stumbled into KP when he was getting taken in trades that he thought were making the team ready to compete for the playoffs in his first year. Phil also signed Melo to his current deal. He gets pennies on the dollar in trades. He makes a good coaching hire and then handicaps the coach with the roster, and Rambis. I don't think Phil's goal was to get a high lottery pick again this year. I think he stumbled into it based on mistakes he made just like the first time when he got KP. The pick absolutely is important to the franchise but you could make a very strong argument that Phil's biggest and now second biggest moves to help the franchise happened because he messed up.

Only thing is he knew he had the KP pick and didn't stop there! He also got Willy. Phil said from the beginning that he wanted to have a FUTURE COMPONENT to the team, meaning it was always his plan to be building for the future as he was also trying to win. IMO Phil has executed the Future Component very well.

He never went all in on win now. Kept cap space, which he'll have again this summer! He no longer has to try and build around Melo. That could have a major impact on his moves this summer.
