Good read that makes really good points and shows we're not as bad off as most make it seem.

Nice but the guys we're playing right now in terms of a future are all backups on good teams. Maybe only Lance is the starter because he's becoming maybe a little like Bruce Bowen or someone like that who can just knock down shots from outside and then defend well on the other end. So you have KP and Lance but the rest while showing promise at young age they are all backups on a good team IMO.

I think our 3 starters moving forward are KP, Thomas and Lee. We need to find a better point guard than Rose who does what he can in terms of driving the ball but with better recognition of the open man (Ideally also has a 3 point shot which hurts Rose's impact). We need a frontcourt mate for Lance/KP. Willy has the potential to start longterm but I don't think in modern NBA the defense will work with KP at 4. We need to shift KP to starting 5, who can play some 4. Or do what we already are which is starting him at 5, but he switches all over the place. Need to find a 4 or 3 who is like Lance and can shift all over defensively.

Holiday, Randle, Baker, Kuz, O'Quinn all good bench players either already or in the making. Willy has potential to be like a Vucevic or a Kanter. Give you 12-14 points and a near double double off the bench. Quality 6th man.

Still lots to do, it begins with a Melo trade if that happens, then drafting well in the lottery, and making wise choices in free agency. Right now I'd pencil in 3 starters for next year's team with KP, Thomas and Lee. If we can find two new starters to work with them who are young, athletic and can grow with that unit moving forward, I'll be very happy. That would allow Willy, O'Quinn, Holiday, Randle, Baker, Kuz to all come off the bench and keep improving slowly within a system and make max impact in short bursts which is what their talent corresponds to.

NDour I do not see the deal with him, but maybe he will be better with time. I like his athleticism and he moves off the ball. However in the games he got PT he can't finish anything and fouls defensively. Lets see if Knicks can develop him, they do this well, but lets see. I'd bring him back for summer league and training camp but he must get a 3 point shot or improved play finishing around the rim.

Can't tell if you think if Thomas is a starter for now or if he is a legit starter on a team that is in the making for the playoffs. For me, LT is a good bench player at best.

The Knicks are in very good shape, compared to previous years, and the media and fans constant negativity overshadows it. Everyone can agree KP has franchise-building talent, and most teams don't have a KP-type young talent. This is the right year to have a high draft pick, even if it's not a top 5 pick. If we select the right player, this draft should yield a future high-level starter. We only have 1 bad contract, Noah, who still provides needed leadership, depth, and situational on-court value. Our other 2 long-term veteran contracts, Thomas and Lee, provide good value as role players for their cost. Willy, Kuz, Baker, and Randle are all capable players at low-cost, which this front office has shown major skills finding. With a ton of cap space and all our picks, we have options like we haven't had as a franchise for a long time. And we don't need to use the cap space right away, but it's available when needed. We should continue to build from within, which is centered around KP, our draft pick, and Willy, in that order, and find low-cost gems that help fill out the roster and rotation. Melo can remain a part of it for the short term if he wants, but he will be gradually phased out. Rose should be let go. Only money spent this summer should be at PG (maybe Collison) if we don't draft a PG. Baker and Randle both look like nice backups for the system. There's a lot to like with the future of this team, starting with KP's growth and having a 1st round pick and 2 2nd round picks this summer, which will make the draft very fun for once.

I see him as a culture guy right now for a young team, He makes them all play harder defense. Sort of the anti-Rose/Melo. Rose and Melo as vets make the culture about 1 on 1 play and lax D. With Thomas he is almost a vet now at 27 he brings an infectious defensive style to the team that they really badly need.

I think for a year we need some continuity. We don't want yet another massive change next year. I'd like to see some continuity outside of Melo/Rose.

From your lips to PJax's ears. This is the right approach for our team moving forward, and seems to be the tack Jax will be taking.

It's hard to even think a 3rd of this roster will be here next season, especially the young guys who may get deals with contenders elsewhere.

I'm really not encourage by anything any more with the knicks and phil, because im so use to drastic changes and new directions every off season, why should I expect anything different.

I disagree because i think KP, Willy, Baker, Randle, Plumlee, Lee, Thomas, and Noah will all likely be there. That's 8, which will be more than 1/2 of the roster. Holiday and O'Quinn could be here as well, but may be less likely. Let's not forget about Melo too, who can decide whatever he wants.

Nalod @ 3/8/2017 4:19 PM
Not sure about Holiday as his price goes up, but he has developed well this year. Plum I doubt sticks as we are getting log jammed at center. With KOQ and WIlly both having done better than expected, and we have that new kid in Westchester who has some offensive moves. I could see KOQ as a good trade chip for us.

Noah I have no idea about. As a fan I want him to play, but this is now season 2 he is further breaking down. Randle has a partial and obviously phil likes him enough to give him an opportunity. Baker has stuck all year and gets more opportunity.

Big question is do we let Rose walk and who we draft.

You really can't see a path forward with this team??? I mean are you so jaded that you've lost all sense of perspective about this franchise. OPEN YOUR EYES! There's some good things developing here! There is progress and we now have clarity regarding Melo. The attempts to build around him are OVER!!! The only path forward is to focus on a new core of young talent.
