wow. Did they just trade a ppick for him?

The Blazers GOT a first round pick in the deal. They gave up Mason Plumlee and a second rounder for Nurkic and a 2017 first round pick. (It's somehow Memphis's pick, which Denver got from Cleveland for Mozgov)

Wasn't it Denver who traded a pick WITH him?! I just looked it up- yes they did! Denver traded Nurkic AND a first for Plumlee and a second. Yikes.

Denver has been a mess since Masai went to Toronto. They have Jokic who is a great young piece. The rest of the roster is a hot mess. They should've traded Faried years ago.

Can you have two ball dominant bigs who are slow on D playing together in the modern era? It doesn't seem like it.

It's about guard play now. I hope Phil is watching.

Is that how it works? Give it 8 games then label it?

If Phil is not watching, its good he has you to help him. Seems like Drose would be a natural for that team.
That should keep them going as the new dysfunction.

Have you watched New Orleans play since their trade or are you just talking again?

For sure, just talking!!!

You and others after 8 games are "Told you so"?
Phil has KP, who plays like a giant guard. Willy, plays the right way. Noah, who rebounds, then turns around and leads a fast break?
Likes interchangable guards, likes them bigish?
Bulls teams really never had dominant big guy. Had cartwright, who was good, but not "Great" then.
Phil was blessed with Shaq. Phil was blessed with Bynum. Had Pau, who played high post and could shoot.
So what do you think Phil is watching? Never did we make a play for Cousins did we? Wanted Aldridge to play Center. Never made a strong move for Monroe.
So what is the lesson?

You and others could teach phil a thing or two?

8 games...Stop it...

It's a small sample size. They will improve. But the message is true. The game is getting faster and smaller. If we build a team around porzingis at center and good guard play, we will be tough to compete with in the long term. KP is the ideal center for today's game. Match up nightmare.

Small sample size? You're stealing my line!
I do agree with you that it's stupid to judge a team off of 8 games but I also believe (based on Cousins' career production) that NOP is going to be a disappointment.

If they spend $40 mil on him and have a max contract for AD, they will not have money left over to fill out the roster. You can't overpay someone (Cousins) by that much and expect to compete with teams that use every penny on their roster wisely.

This thread isn't meant to be an overreaction to a short span of games, but looking at them play a few times, I've just wondered if the league has passed by this style of team. Both Cousins and AD seem to struggle trying to share the same spots on the floor. If anything, it reminds me of Melo and Amar'e, but worse. I just don't see it working. But in a broader sense, I find it fascinating that this is such a terrible match in the NBA these days. I think it says a lot about where the league has gone in the past 15 or so years.

You can call it overreacting all you want, but do you really see a team with AD and Cousins getting home court in the playoffs any time soon? Maybe they'll get an 8th seed or something... but AD got an 8th seed by himself already.

That trade is looking better and better for Sac every day. They now will get two top-10 picks in a deep draft, plus buddy h. is the truth.

Depends who they pick... a point guard and a big man would be nice

They will likely get a pg and sf. Those are there two positions of need and they should have good options at those positions with two top-10 picks. If you look at their roster and salary situation, they can probably turn into a very good them by 2018-2019 season if they hit on these draft picks and their young players develop.

Yeah I liked Buddy H. It seemed he was being misused in New Orleans. He's playing pretty for Sacramento so far

I like WCS, I was hoping we could have traded for him, back when it looked like they were keeping Cousins. I think he was BRIGGS arch-nemisis back during the run up to the 2015- he guaranteed we were taking him and had several nervous break downs about it, said he'd be trash etc etc, then a few weeks after the draft said that actually, he'd probably be quite good!

So 8 games in is a good time to assess?..You are assuming there is only one way to play ball, like GS..

When you do a mid season trade like this you gut the bench..

He isn't a 40 mil player..He will probably get 30 per which is also nuts..But they have lots of garbage on the bench making money..

Just to show you for all the flak Phil gets, he has had ONE lottery pick to work with in 3 years so far, and New Orleans has had a top 5 player in Anthony Davis and multiple lottery picks and yet they've made the playoffs once and haven't still gotten to respectable.

They are exactly where we are and they've had so much more drafted talent to work with.

I'm just saying, Phil may not be a good executive but he's far from bad. They are so many teams who have had more opportunities to get talent than us, we've been so restricted due to the lack of draft picks (which ends this summer). I really don't think New Orleans did a smart move in trading for Cousins, unless they plan on trading Anthony Davis for a top 2 point guard in his prime.

In our case, I hope we find a great guard to pair with KP. Rose was not the right guy. But we tried. Gotta keep trying for a point guard that can break down the defense but also has good abilty to connect on passes (and recognition of the open man). Can't stress enough how important this summer will be. We need to draft well, we need to find a way to trade Melo for a young starter and a draft pick. We need to be smart in free agency. However the opportunity is there.
