Hornacek speaks highly of Randle but still prefers to play Baker over him. Randle has had his ups and downs since coming back....
I just want to point out the matchup he had against Damien Lillard. If you look at the box score out jyst looks like Dame just lit Randle up. If you watched their heads up Randle was very poised and under control. Dame on the other hand was pushing and smacking Randle. Talking smack too. Randle never retaliated or left the game mentally. He just kept playing. He didn't get into the "I'm going to get you back" game. He just kept running the offense. The refs weren't calling anything for him. On one play, Dame actually held Randle on a cut to the basket. He was wide open and would of had a dunk if he didn't hold him. Refs let it go. Randle just threw his hands up and kept playing.
I love Randle. He plays under control and with poise. His body is strong and he's always squared to the basket. Dame tried to hack him on a drive to the hoop. Randle just took the hits and kept advancing without throwing the shoulder or elbows. He was just strong.
I dunno how good he is going to be but man I love his game

Charley Rosen just gave him a good evaluation too. He looked good out there against Portland and I really like PGs with long distance shooting ability, which he has. Very smart too. And tough. He actually got a rebound on the offensive board against all the big guys and laid it back in.
We're more likely to lose with Ron Baker playing than Randle, so I'm fine with limiting him
Alternate games where Baker or Randle gets more minutes...
Randle's issue is on D...but I also think we overrate his handle at times. I still feel he should have a few games where he plays 25MPG, at least, and doesn't have to worry about being taken out if he makes a few mistakes.
I love Baker, but he has to be a better shooter than what he has shown us or he's going to be a 10MPG player at best. He passes up a lot of midrange pull-ups, and he has to hit more shots from deep to be a viable player in the league.
I've been surprised at his poor J...he has to tinker with it in the off season.
The Knicks are so bad some people think these guys are actual rotation players.
There is a lot of denial on this board, the Knicks have 1 of the worst rosters in the NBA. I see 3 guys worth keeping and they all are front court players making them basically worthless. In this league you play 1 big at center, 1 SF at PF, and 3 guards. The Knicks 3 best longterm players all are Centers. You can't win when your best players are frontcourt players. This team has to shoot for 2020 to be competitive. We are stuck with Noah who is maybe the worst contract in the sport for the next 3 years, this team has zero chance until he is off the books. Knicks can't add anybody even halfway decent this offseason. This team needs to go for a top 3 pick next season. If we get lucky in this draft and get a true superstar Guard or wing in this draft, get the other next year maybe in 2019 we think about adding talent. If im the Knicks we are stuck with the Albatross in Noah we might as well absorb another contract like that in return for picks. Im so tired of losing but this is the only way we are getting out of this. Melo is finished even entertaining the idea of building a team with hum as a major piece is frickin stupid. Lose some and lose more, 2 more years of terrible play should give us a decent core of youth to build on.

I don't believe in the doomsday predictions. There are so many ways that you can build a Title Contender in the NBA. The Knicks are going to have several shots at drafting the talent they need from here on. If you're smart you can get talent anywhere in the draft.
Spurs 2013-14 ChampionsTim Duncan 1st Pick 1997
Manu Ginobili 57th Pick 1999
Tony Parker 28th Pick 2001
Kawhi Leonard 15th Pick 2011
So yes we're starting with Bigs but this team is at the very beginning of the process of trying to build a team but you have to start somewhere and right now this team starts with some of the young players we have now and hopefully some of the players we get this year in the draft and beyond.
Agree. Time to expose all our fan hyped D league talent. Does everyone realize coaches see these guys in practice every day? Not too many Michael Jordan's killing it in practice that don't get burn in a game. That's where playing time is earned. Not in the fan base dream sequences.

the good news is that we have two talented bigs KP and willy who will only get better. Now its up to phil to hit a homerun on the draft and add pieces around that young core

I don't know what you're talking about here. I think WE ALL know we don't have a lot of young Frontline Players given we only had ONE 1st rd pick. What's the point of making your nasty posts about what is obvious to all?
Isn't the point that we have a good chance to add some Legit Talent now that we have all of our picks? Your take is pretty sad and useless given the fact that this team finally has a shot to draft the needed talent and develop young players going forward. You should be happy about that at least.

What are you taking about? Nobody it's talking about stuff that isn't happening... I have no idea where this came from but I have a clue 🚽
Sounds like Rose maybe out again. Hopefully Randle gets a longer run tonight.

You would think that by now everyone would've gotten the angry and pessimistic talk out of their system. The ONLY thing that matters now is what this team does for the future. It's a waste of energy IMO to complain about the team losing when it could help us get out of this rut with a better Draft Pick. Isn't that pretty much about the best thing we can hope for at this point? Draft as well as you can and develop your young talent!!! We're at the end of the Tunnel now and about to step safely into the light.

I think it will be three more years of the Knicks being a lottery team minimally. Maybe the picks work out. Hopefully the guy that replaces Phil knows what he is doing and brings in a coach that he believes in and allows him to run his system.

As long as the team keeps getting better we can all enjoy the journey. It's much different when you're watching young talent grow together towards a better future. Losing seasons are not all equal. As bad as this is we won't be dwelling on it if things go well in the draft.
As for Phil I actually think he might re-up with the Knicks rather than leave. I think this team going young could reinvigorate him a bit. I could be wrong but I think he's looking forward to seeing what he can build and teach a relatively new coach in Jeff and a team full of younger more talented players. At his heart Phil is a teacher and I think he's going to enjoy the next couple of years.
