The agenda guy posted only that which reinforces his view.
That said, I think most of what he said was true. As for "selling NY on it", thats subjective.
It also reinforces my view that it took Jordan to the GOAT level and his belief in it was critical. No mike buy in, no Pip buy in. And of course no KOBE buy in. Great coach's need the confidence of their great players, otherwise they are never great coaches.
What is lost on the haters is what is phil's trust in Gaines and his scouts? They are his evaluators. Ndour has shown little until the last two weeks and yet here he was based on Gaines insistence. I think he trusts gaines. He took KP also at his insistence.
Phil is not perfect, and the triangle is a long shot. Its not that I have or don't have belief in it. Im a knick fan and if it can be implemented and our culture then we could have a fun time winning.
Im rooting for phil to succeed. Phil just resigned for two more years and Melo won't get him fired. Why unearth every thing thing to support your agenda as it won't help convince anyone that really matters in the decision process? Phil is the president, he is responsible for the knicks basketball operations and ultimately its record. HE was an arrogant SOB before he got here, why think any different?
Melo's the same. Look at his denver stats vs Knick stats and they are nearly identical except he is a better rebounder in NY. Melo has grown more as a person in his second half of his career but he is basically the same type of player he was before.
It was hoped Phil and the triangle could take Melo to the next level. Melo wanted it, phil wanted it, we all wanted it. Not Kobe or Jordan like, but Melo above adrian Dantly, Glenn Robinson, Glen Rice, etc type player. Melo will be a HOF player, but as a cornerstone franchise player he did little to elevate the team as that kind of player either here or in Denver. He was as good as those around him, but not one to elevate those around him. Im not hating on him, it is what it is.
Phil as a coach is one thing. Phil as leader of coaches has no direct correlation to his coaching cred. One would hope some of what he knows would translate. Its hard to even compare him to riley, pop or Auerbach because they all had very long careers as executives and they all had duel roles.
I suppose coming from an agenda guy, it has a negative context. coming from a neutral place, its interesting opinion from a biographer. Im sure he has an agenda though, books to sell? articles to have been read, etc!!! Everyone has an agenda!!!
Nalod's? I just want to enjoy the knicks. If you follow me, I only hated on Isiah. I rooted for Layden, Walsh, Grunwald and Phil. Same for our coaches. I liked Chaney and hated the way we treated him. That was all Isiah's ego. Wilkens was a good man. Larry was always a prick, but he had a good record turning around teams. I hated Isiah the coach. I thought MDA was the start of a new culture of high speed ball. It was, until Dolan got Melo. Woodson was a Larry guy and I liked him. Thought Kerr and fish were great hires, as is Jeff.
Nalod wants all in on the triangle and lets get it over with!!! if it won't work, well its not like knicks ever failed at something? At least we do this because its a plan, its different, and its hard! Winning and contending is Hard. Try it for two years, if it don't work, then we move on. But Phil needs to go all in or drop it.
I suppose if you top player is not down with it, then its a problem.
