Knicks · Phil changes course - will address media tomorrow (page 1)

Good. I think he needs to. It's not about blame, it's about showing leadership. He needs to set the tone for the off-season and show some leadership in how he expresses the disappointment we all feel this year.

Was the plan all along that he would not address the media? Had that happened in previous seasons? I don't get the "Change in plans" part

I saw it reported originally that he would not be made available to the media. I'm glad he will. A reported might have just had the wrong info about him not being available though, or maybe the Knicks just hadn't confirmed it yet...

Right.... I'd say the NY media couldn't get it confirmed and just put it out there that Knicks and Jackson wouldn't do anything, and then had to flip it

That could be. Another thought I had was that maybe the Knicks were waiting to see how Melo's exit interview went.

In previous years they've made players available to the media after their exit interviews and Phil has spoken that same day.

Supposedly exit interviews were today and no media availability as far as I've seen.

I believe he has always addressed the media after the season and the time/day was known. This year Knick players were not allowed to communicate with the media and nothing was scheduled for Phil. It should be an interesting press conference.

Ah ok. Here's the original story from earlier today. Apparently the media asked for player and Phil Jackson availability today and was told there wouldn't be any. So it's unclear if the Knicks always planned to have Jackson speak on Friday or if they changed course.

I do specifically remember in past seasons that the players had been made available directly after their exit interviews and were asked about them. Apparently that won't be happening this year.

But like I said - I do think it's important leadership for Phil to speak.

I can imagine that this Exit interview with Melo was a bit tougher and they may have wanted some cool off time or in the case of the other younger players to spare them having to answer questions that might include comments on the Melo situation.

I agree with this. That makes sense.

Melo's next public interview may well be a doozy. I'm guessing the Knicks have asked him not to address trade stuff? Who knows.

It's customary for the GM/Pres to do an end of season presser after exit interviews. Martin right media jumped the gun
Chandler @ 4/13/2017 7:04 PM
am I the only one expecting a Belicheck impersonation?
GustavBahler @ 4/13/2017 7:15 PM
Just glad he's doing it....

The media wants to keep painting the same narritive that Phil is a idiot to sell papers and get clicks...

Truth is there is no story. Just routine stuff like you said

They are professionals... even if there was a heated exchange. There is no need too think there needs to be a cooling off period. Players like to talk about "its a business" only when it's convenient for them. Right now Melo has to decide where he wants to go because like it or not the Knicks are rebuilding with youth. They are not going to develop youth by watching Melo chuck jump shots after holding the ball 5 seconds jab stepping. That's just not going to happen.

Still to early to announce a Melo trade, but early enough to declare a rebuild for the future to give people time to wrap there head around the moves he will make this summer to potentially tank...... Like trading Melo.

I also expect him to throw some jabs at Noah (somebody has to be the whipping boy)

Phil will need to simply tell it like it is. He's boot going to say anything we don't already know. He's just going to confirm it....

I think most fans are down for this rebuild. We get a lotto pick this year and we are going to need another one next year as well.... i think most of us are down for that. Seeds need to be planted

Yeah I think it should be at least 1 more season. Possibly 2 and then Boom go for the playoffs as an organization. The idea is that by the time KP enters his prime the rest of the team will be poised to enter theirs as well
