Feel bad for the kid

Disagree...His act is all for marketing and its working. Dude is innovative and I hope more athletes take control of their own brand so to speak....Why do you feel bad for a kid who's pops is teaching him to own his own business?

the dad in this case is painting a huge target on the kids back before he has even done anything. guys are gonna be amped to play the kid. there will be folks itching to point out any struggles the kid has. fultz vs ball stuff from march may be nothing to what the kid may face if he doesnt live up to the hype straight away.

The target on Lonzo's back will not be any bigger than LeBron when he came into the league, or Shaq, or Big Dog Robinson when he got that mega contract, etc...In the end, if Lonzo has the heart, the work ethic and of course the skill to play in the NBA, then it shouldn't matter.

LeBron, Shaq, had NBA ready bodies and were generational talents. The young man has enough to deal with already, why put any more pressure on him?

Don't have a problem with his father trying to build a brand. Its the American way. Problem is that his sons' careers are almost entirely fueling his aspirations.

Don't believe an NBA rookie prospect's father should be in front of the camera, promoting his business to the point where he's overshadowing his children. Its not taking pressure off of them because the brand's status and marketability are almost entirely reliant on his children's success.

I suspect this is just something that the major brands like Nike and Adidas and the NBA administration will laugh about. Odds are Ball Senior will try to parlay his sons into a reality show.

NBA and ESPN and the marketing love the spectacle, the sideshow of the quasi- thug life soap opera narratives.

I think David Stern realized he could not functionally civilize the player corps in the NBA. The talent pool is too height dependent and there are too many factors in play with talent scarcity and the reality that most of the incoming players will be young, impressionable and many without father figures or even functionally educated or socialized.

If the TV industry has shown anything, that there is definitely a market segment that is simply more desirable ( prime earning years, certain demographics, etc, etc. ) Lots of that demographic will have no interest in the sideshow soap opera wannabe rapper/gangster/baller drama that occurs in the NBA. There isn't enough LEGIT NBA news and activity to fuel the 24.7.365 sports media machine. So they need to drive the Westbrook versus Durant type of drama.

I want you guys to wear suits!
No, NO NO NO , you should PAY FOR MY SUITS! You are targeting me! So what my jeans are hanging down around my KNEES! I can do whatever I want!

Is anyone going to pretend that when you see new kicks go for sale, when you see a mob of 5000 people storm some early morning FootLocker, that there isn't some specific narrative and demographic appeal at work? When they trample each other and tear each other, that it doesn't say something about what the NBA marketing is trying to appease, because they have no other choice?

Woody Harrelson said it best - How many nights did your baby girl go hungry so you could wear that gold chain?

There's a saying, behind every great fortune is a crime. If the Ball family was a true threat to Nike or Adidas, then Ball Senior would go the way of Jordan Senior.

Does anyone really believe that if Nike could have gotten a 2 month head start on the Tiger Woods scandal, that those 18-20 women he banged would end up in a ditch somewhere? Woods was the face of their entire golfing industry. You think they'd worry about a few women getting strangled behind some dark alley to save a few bucks? To save a scandal?

Lonzo Ball is not talented enough to be anything more than a distraction. If his father was ever going to be more than that, then Nike and the NBA would just make him disappear.

Ball represents a massive problem with much of the modern NBA talent pool. It's not enough to be great at basketball and win games, you gotta have your own shoes, your own cologne, your own reality show, be a rap star, be a wannabe thug life gangster, get 15 flight attendants pregnant, shoot up a night club, get on TMZ, show up to games in stupid hats and bath in the milk from a bald eagle's tit. Gotta be in a Scorsese movie, gotta host an awards show, gotta have a 400 foot sized headshot of yourself painted in like leopardskin as a centaur.

Like Chris Rock said once, you can't save someone who would be willing to put rims on a toaster if they could get away with it.

As statistics show, it's mostly poor people who fund the lottery. People who can't afford to throw money away at such bad odds. The lottery is seen as a tax on the poor. That's the NBA marketing plan. If you can't civilize the player corps, then monetize the lack of socialization, the lack of education, the lack of positive father figures, the lack of accountability and reason. David Stern realized real fast, this wasn't a "woman" you bring home and ring up, these are the types who are just cum dumpsters.

Every single time STAT put on a stupid robe at a film festival instead of working on his game, that's all he would ever be. Just another cum dumpster that the NBA marketing machine has whored out. It should tell everyone the state of the game when the league changes the cap structure and projections to try Durant from Golden State. God forbid humble team ball should excel when it's just easier to point a camera a dude dunking over a car.

I'll give Ball Senior some credit here. There's a ton of whoring out done for the greater good of the almighty profit in the NBA, at least he's honest about it all. At least he's not pretending to be anything other than a total mercenary.

How many nights did Lonzo Ball go hungry so Ball Senior could wear that gold chain?
