You mean bench or suspend him because he won't waive the NTC that we gave him? Oh man, we're already the laughing stock of the league and are not the kind of team good FAs take seriously. Don't make it worse.
I can't imagine that the cba allows for a player given a NTC to be suspended for not waiving the NTC.
Just put him in the bench. If he doesn't want to wave it then bench him. You know he isn't gonna like it because he is playing for scoring list.

I don't think that would fly either, the league and player's association would not allow an able bodied player to benched indefinitely like you morons are saying just because he won't waive his NTC. The more Phil opens his mouth the less chance of Melo getting traded for significant value(Phil's words). Phil Jackson trying to sell a car and pointing out flaws and expects to receive top dollar, ergo FUCKING RETARDED. Yall keep drinking that kool aid, no free agent in their right mind would want to play for these assholes. I just want this BS to be over already one way or the other.

Phil already knows he is gonna pick his destination and the team that is gonna want him is going to be in desperation mode. You don't think the Clippers are desperate or other teams that are going to get knocked out.
There are plenty of able bodied players who don't get playing time. What Melo can't be one of them? Stop drinking the Melo cool aid.

Nothing in Melo's contract says he requires playing time. They can sit him and he can just stay in shape, lose a year of stats & then waive his contract next summer. That actually would save the knicks the same money as waiving him..... Like everyone say no one has to do anyone any favors.

I'm not sure what this accomplishes for the Knicks. Sure they would be within their rights, but then you essentially have all that money doing nothing but earning ill will around the league for you. I guess you prove a point, but is getting payback for a mistake the team made(Melo's extension with NTC) really worth the cost? I don't think any player would waive the last year of such a rich contract. You'd have to buy the thing out in full.

Its not anymore payback than Melo saying "I stay or waive me". Once he delivers that ultimatum or as the Media says "say to Dolan its me or Phil". Phil has every right to treat him just like he would any other non star player and hit him with a DNP cause he feels like it.
Also the league hates the Knicks, the Media hates the knicks...... who cares if Melo sits for 2 years. The idea is youth development which means Melo's stats are a lower priority than a younger player getting more minutes. Cause Melo needs a new contract (and needs to score a bunch of points) doesn't coincide with the knicks playing their youth and likely getting another high pick next season.
Well...

Of course, Phil has every right to make a mockery of the Knicks (or even more of a mockery). This would be a terrible idea though. I could never picture a well-run organization like the Warriors or Spurs doing this (or even a half respectable organization doing it).

yes lets do that so stars around the league can see how stars are treated in nyc and make a beeline for the knicks.

None of that is happening and its total silly talk. This talk about sticking Melo on the bench has no basis in reality. Jeff wouldnt do it, and if Phil or someone told him to I think he would walk. If Melo is on the team he's Melo doing what Melo does.

The only realistic scenario would be game to game decisions by JH to pull him out the game and bench him for periods of time if Melo isn't playing team ball or the way JH wants him to play. Pulling him out in the 4th quarter and having him sit during crunch time moments. Much like he did to Rose at points this past season.
But the issue is that it would become a circus with NY media all over it. And it won't be about Melo playing selfishly and JH making a coaching decision based on whats best for the team. It will be become about peoples feelings and soap opera type ish. And indirect shots quoted by Melo and JH and Phil. Which will continue the divide in fans and media as some will claim they are doing this to shame Melo and lowering his value. While others will claim they are doing what they have to since Melo isn't buying in. Then the focus will turn toward the triangle again. How Melo shouldn't be looking to buy in anyway since the triangle is flawed.
The usual predictable stuff.

You simply cant expect anything good to come from that. The only way Melo changes is if he's surrounded by superior talent, which the Knicks dont have right now.

That's why he's got to go! We need to clear the way for our young studs to fully develop and Melo soaks up too much of the space for these kids to grow. Melo is no Joe Johnson who is just fitting in and stepping up when needed. Melo dominates the team and doesn't know how to fall back and be supportive of young talent.

Nah you are reading my comment wrong. The purpose isn't to show Melo up. That is what the NY media and fans would turn it into. It would be JH reading and reacting to whats going on within the court and looking to make the adjustments. If Melo is in one of his funks which he is possibly hurting the team by jocking, killing ball movement, and poor effort on defense. Then the only route JH can take would be to pull him out and try something else within that moment.I'm saying that is the only route JH can take as the other stuff of simply sitting him or suspending him isn't realistic. Its not about some dynasty type tear down of Melo.

right... I hear you, but they are the same thing. You wont sub Melo out for defense in crunch time, because he's not a bad defender in 30 second spurts. Its the other 36 minutes he plays that hurt you there. Bottom line is that as currently constructed Melo is simply not benchable for this team. There is no scenario where benching him results in anything but more toxic BS from the team. He's gotta go, or you accept what you get from him while he's here.
