If we somehow got the #1 pick for Melo and a future first
Turn around then and trade KP to the lakers for #2 and one of their young players like clarkson or randle
take picks 1+2 keep pick 8
Fultz/Monk/Jackson/Randle/Gomez
Cant wait for the draft
i know im just adding to the unlikely BS but it sure is fun
The lakers would then be 1 year away from
Russell/Clarkson/Ingram/PG13/KP
The Celtics would be
Thomas/Bradley/Jaylen Brown/Melo/Horford
still having crowder, smart, olynyk, and the knicks 2018 first pick
I think the Lakers are more likely to try and put together a package for Jimmy Butler using their young players and future picks, dtaft Lonzo Ball and then sign Paul George outright. That'd be a compelling core to build with/around.
As for the Knicks, I still think the ideal option is to keep KP and then give up what is necessary to move up to 3 to select Josh Jackson. Those two would be one hell of a dynamic duo.
I could see Melo to Boston for the #1 pick, but Boston is going to want to swap picks for our #8 pick. Still a good trade for both teams when you include a player like Crowder who Phil has a man crush on.
Salaries have to match.... carry on

Take a look at Boston's guaranteed salaries and cap holds. They have plenty of room and can clear up to 30M if motivated to sign a max FA outright. Trading for Melo and swapping picks gives them more flexibility to deal with their existing roster and the players they want to retain. http://www.celticsblog.com/2017/4/7/1522...

I don't need to take a look at anything. I know Boston's cap situation.... I just need to know who are you trading to the Knicks for Melo where they still can sign Hayward? Melo, Hayward, Isiah, Hortford and Bradley is talented this is true

There isn't much of a market for Melo. So who would the Celtics be betting against to be compelled to put the no.1 overall pick in play in any capacity? I think we'd even have a hard time prying Jaylen Brown from them with a package built around Melo.

...if you knew their cap situation, you'd know that salaries wouldn't have to match for the deal to work.

That's not the point.... Boston could absorb Melo's contract if they renounce everyone. Ok so Melo for the #1 would work... but it's that making them better? I would rather dump a contract and sign Hayward therefore keeping the pick.... but We're taking about Boston signing Hayward and trading for Melo... how sway? Only deal I see is Zellar, Crawford, Jaylen Brown ands the #1 pick for Melo. That doesn't make sense for Boston in my opinion
Not gonna happen! Boston is never going to take Melo for #1. Boston wouldn't even take Melo and 8 for 1.
Start thinking of deals around KP for #1.
Thats why im including next years first rounder (likely lottery and top 6)
It would be melo ant 2018 top 6 pick for 2017 #1

So you are just calling for Melo to be traded for the #1.... the article you posted talked about Gordon Hayward. If I'm the Celtics I would rather sign Hayward and if a big trade needs to be made I would rather go for a younger talent like Cousins. Just adding Melo isn't going to do it for me if I'm Boston.
Yeah I don't get the feel the Celtics have that level of interest in Melo at all.
I'd pitch KP, KOQ for Zeller, #1, Minny 2nd rounder.
KOQ gives them a real quality goon on a cheap contract. He put up real impressive stats when he got minutes.
This move would also give Boston flexibility to sign another max along with IT. With IT, Horford, Porzingis and the right maxed SG/SF, Boston are contenders. They would have to make a deal for one of Butler/George/Hayward/Galinari and they do have a lot of other bargaining chips.

Melo isn't much of a trade asset. I think you'd have to include several more unprotected 1st round picks.
