Knicks · The best deal I have read this off season regarding trading Carmelo. (page 2)

Dantoni was done as soon as Grunwald amnestied Billups, signed Tyson and brought Woodson in. But he also was a lame duck, had 6 weeks left on his deal and got paid all of his money. Phil just reupped. But I also don't think Melo leaves just to leave. He wants to go to a winning situation and the deal Phil gave him makes that almost impossible. I think Phil resigning or Melo getting waived are about even odds.

Phil wanted Melo to give a substantial Home Town discount but Melo only came down a little. Clearly Melo and his agent wanted the money, NTC and Kicker. You can't absolve Melo of any responsibility in the Contract he negotiated for.
Phil ain't leaving when his legacy is on the line!!!

Is Melo's agent not supposed to get a good contract? Phil made it sound like he was fine with Melo leaving but he gave out a ridiculous contract in exchange for a little less than a max deal fr Melo. Has Phil done anything in years 1-3 that makes you think he is working really hard because hs legacy is on the line?

#1 I didnt come up with it. Thought it was a great idea though. #2 I dont even see this as a lot in return. Winslow has been horrible his first year and 18 games he has played in the NBA and probably couldn't net higher then the 22 pick in this draft at the moment. And its the #14 pick not #4. The question is more if Riley wants to take on Melos contract with 2 years left. And if he believes he can build a contender around Whiteside Melo Dragic. With up and comers Johnson and Richardson.
newyorknewyork wrote:Is to Miami for Winslow and #14(I think they have to add in McRoberts). I am guessing that they have been able to free themselves from Bosh contract opening up the money to take him on.Melo doesn't take a hit with his brand.
Riley is one of the best execs in the game to attempt to win the chip with.
Dragic, Whiteside are both perfect pieces next to Melo. Waiters, Johnson, Richardson aren't bad either.Knicks would obtain close to 45 mil in cap space.
Would also obtain 25+mil trade exception creating around 65+mil to work with cap wise.
Adding 14 pick in this draft would be great.
OMG!! That would make new so happy, I may even forgive Riley.
doomed wrote:Keep dreaming. Knicks aren't getting that much for melo. Might not even get half of that.
True, I would trade him straight up for either Winslow or their pick and whatever garbage we have to take back. But I doubt we can even get that.

Winslow is awful. I think he's saying we can't even get half of that because pick #14 is too much for a team to give up.

It's a sneaky Pat Riley move... just flash mob reload and shoot your shot. Melo, Dragic, Whiteside, Dion Waiters... a couple more moves and you have a playoff team. Crazy... Miami has alot of money tied up so it makes more sense for them to go for it the next 2 years.
Ellington, Mc Roberts, Winslow and the #12 for Melo... that gets it done for me. You peg these guys into the current roster and all of a sudden we have a crew of professionals with experience to mix in with the young players. Im totally cool with this.
On Miami's end, they have Melo and Dragic with Waiters, Tyler Johnson and Whiteside... you figure they resign James Johnson... Riley is good at finding players to fill out the roster. It's a good look for them for 2 years.
EnySpree wrote:I'm looking at the rosters now... Phil says he wants more guys like Lee.... well a mix of Winslow, Tyler Johnson, Wayne Ellington. MC Roberts and the #12 would be nice... I'd say 3 of those guys and a pick could get that done for us. Maybe they want to keep Tyler Johnson cuz he's their guy and he's young....I totally agree. Forgot about waiters. Melo would definitely get them at least the 3rd seed in the east.Ellington, Nc Roberts, Winslow and the #12 for Melo... that gets it done for me. Winslow and the #12 is a fair price for Melo. Just round it out with role players not named Willy and I think Padre riles will be happy
StarksEwing1 wrote:I don't think Miami would do that and its not because Phil has "ruined" his value. Melo at his age and with his flaws is simply not gonna bring back a lottery pick along with a good young player. The best you can hope for is probably a later round first and something elseI think you are devaluing Melo's worth. A #12 and a struggling Winslow is not a lot. Not for a shot at a 53+ win team for the next 2 years.
But then again...melo would still need to say yes. Maybe the tax free part would come into play

This is my wish trade and I have been posting it for months. Its a good trade. Miami gets something in return for Bosh vs. nothing. Miami had the best record in the second half of the season. That says a lot. This is a good two year window for Miami and they will contend. Perhaps not true champion but would be top 4 in the east. They lose nothing from last years team. I'd say we have to send them a second round pick. Dragic, Melo and Whiteside is a very good core.
A 14 and 8 combined could get us to move up in the draft to grab a player that gaines might covet as being worthy.
What some of you might be missing is Melo brings star power to the ticket counter and Riley DOES care about money. He is a part owner and looks out for Mickey Aronson.
I'd do this trade straight up for Winslow and bosh's contract. Anything on top of that is gravy.
O'quinn can be moved for a low first round pick and that can be used so miami has something in the first round. Many facets to this CONCEPT (not a predication)to ponder. Its low probability.
KNicks1248, just cuz its not written don't mean someone can't put together a conceptual trade. Your good at being the guy that says no to everything as if your mr. insider. Fans just like to play around with stuff and have fun. Miami could be ok for Melo's brand. It puts him in a position to be in playoffs and maybe make a run to conf. finals. At the same time, if he goes to Clev and somehow they faulter, he will look bad. Real bad. Imagine if Durant for what ever reason failed to get GSW to finals?
La La Cosmetics people are all down in Miami, they wear a lot of hats in Miami. His Latin America vibe would work in Miami, and the taxes are great. Riley could sell him a good concept.
We have no idea if Riley even entertains this. The first thing is Bosh is on the books and they get nothing in return. So this makes Melo attractive in some sense.
Could Riley get cp3 in in trade using Dragic as core?
NYKBocker wrote:Thus would be a great deal for Miami. I think you need to look at this objectively and look at what the Miami roster would be after this deal. A big 3 of Whiteside, Melo and Dragic would be a killer. Melo would have the rim protector and rebounder he needs and the dynamic PG that can light it up from 3. Getting role players would be easier to do. If I was Riley I would also demand for lance thomas. They would go from a 41 win team to a 53+ win team. Plus, Melo only has a 2 year contract which is about the prime window for Whiteside and dragic.
I think replacing Winslow with an average NBA starter brings them from 41 to at least 47 wins. Melo if he actually plays smart and hard would help more than that. Still a huge gamble in terms of whether that's the best use of $30 mil in payroll.

These trades are so far fetch, it's as if you guys forget there's a NTC, and a 30+ million trade kicker. I read on ESPN the options (if melo waives his trade kicker) and it was so silly. It's like oh yeah, melo will short his self $$, on top of being forced out of NY by PHIL JACKSON, to go play for a non contender.
The guy keeps saying I want to win, and some you think he wants a change of scenery. I don't want to look fwd to 55 losses next season, so any trade needs to make us better now and in the future, and I just don't see a trade yet that will make phil and melo happy, at least not this off season.

Bosh on the payroll does nothing.
Melo>ClotLungBosh
Miami has chips. Know what Riley and Aronson like? PROFITABILITY! Melo is a draw. Even if you go to boo him, he is a draw.
Riley likes his players to play defense. That won't work.
Bosh defense on the DL with Lung Clots? not very good.
Bosh Lungs draw fans? Nope.
That money is gone.
Its possible this trade idea is moot because new CBA might give Miami a bogey......

Kicker is $8,000,000. He can waive it. Why would he? Taxes in Florida are less than California.
We just talking financial.
Miami really came together in second half of season. They could improve with Melo.
Far fetched? Perhaps.
Ignorant? Only when you don't get the facts.

He can waive the trade kicker under certain situations. He might do it for an almost guaranteed ring in Cleveland but I don't think there is any chance he does it for the Heat. I also think he isn't going to do Phil any favors. Giving up 8 mil is a huge favor. I also don't think Riley would want to take on Melo's contract.
