Knicks · Dennis Smith should be our guy at #8... (page 2)

yellowboy90 @ 6/6/2017 11:10 PM

Poor guy barely gets off the floor now when he dunks

Drafting Smith simply keeps the status quo of the particular type of player that has led the Knicks to many many losing seasons. Hes a great physical talent--but hes not a part of a big time winning type team.

Pick 8 is a very very tough pick. Looking back I wouldve been in the draft Miles Bridges camp. I want to see if the Knicks actually do make a trade for another first rounder and where that is--that will give me more information. I want skill players who have a focus on team basketball

phil would redeem himself if he some how grabs this kid at 8, and also trade for Rubio.

Smith, Monk or Isaac should be there. I am afraid the Knicks might take Frank.

Smith or Isaac....WHO DO U TAKE.

That's going to be Phil's dilemma. I think it depends on his trade options. Isaac would be a nice pick....finding a triangle PG shouldn't be difficult. but finding a two way player like Isaac who plays 3 positions and a melo replacement would be hard to find. long....fast ....unselfish players is the way to go. stay away from acl injuries especially with small explosive guards.

I would definitely take Isaac as I'm sure we'll bring out the worst in DSJ. I also wouldn't be surprised if Twolves take DSJ, Thibs might see some Rose in him

Yep, that's where I'm at with this, we've been down this path before

Not that I'm the biggest DSJ lobbyist but I would expect with a PG of his talent that the Knicks would make substantial improvement. To assume he'd be Marbury or DRose may be wrong. He definitely looks to be of that ilk but how much he's able to buy into a more Team Oriented game is hard to determine.

I do believe that DSJ would be DYNAMIC in Jeff's Early Spread PnR/Drag Screen version of the Triangle! He's been able to play Off the ball which is a good thing. I don't see him as being a great defensive player but he could be a good one tho. Just needs to give Max Effort and take defense seriously.

There is no information on his workout yet?
GustavBahler @ 6/7/2017 9:11 PM
Have no idea who will be available at 8 if Smith is there. But if he's the BPA I hope they pick him. I understand the concern, but there were enough mitigating circumstances in college IMO not to pass on him, if he's the BPA.

nba comparisons helps to evaluate a players ceiling.

smith.....upside is Westbrook and Damien L.....downside is baron Davis

isaac......upside is Paul George.....and marvin williams....or Gordon Hayward

I think with so many PG options in this draft.....i would take Isaac at 8.....lots of athletic PGs available in the bottom of the 1st....we could worst case buy a late 1st.....and still have 2 opportunities in the 2nd to draft roll players or find a gem.

anrst @ 6/8/2017 8:49 AM
if the downside is baron davis you take him.

How is that a downside, right!

Basically injury prone.....so he's risky. Isaac doesn't have the same ceiling and a lower floor. but in our system......a 2way unselfish forward will be a better impact on the team with out stunting KPs growth.

Smith is a street ball....highlight reel who needs to ball hog just to show his value. I've said this before.....this team or system doesn't do well with ball hogs....especially at the PG position.

I'll take Paul George or Gordon Hayward over rose or baron Davis. Isaac doesn't need to pound the ball because he has multiple tools to impact on both ends.

BRIGGS @ 6/8/2017 10:38 AM
Knicks went out of their way to say Smith did not workout for them which is a good sign of subterfuge. They did that w kp

Oh absolutely. It's very interesting to see how this works. I think Phil likes him more than he will let on.

newyorknewyork @ 6/8/2017 11:40 AM
It would be more telling if he starts canceling workouts for other teams.
nyknickzingis @ 6/8/2017 11:50 AM
In the top 10, Smith along with Isaac and Ntilikina are my 3 "steal" picks. If we end up with any of those 3, I am happy. Knicks need to take risks. These guys may not develop, but the potential is there. Smith has all the same tools and potential Fultz has before the injuries.

Look - if we draft Smith and he doesn't develop team play - we should be able to trade him and get excellent value back.

I worry about taking a relative unknown like Ntilikina that we end up with a version of Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Great athlete, super vitals, but unable to stay in the league.

blkexec @ 6/8/2017 1:44 PM
Has anybody thought about why Smith met with the knicks.....and didn't workout with us. instead they had a meeting?.....i don't think Smith is on their radar... and the discussion was based on Smith's ability to play in the triangle system....without dominating the ball. with or without an acl injury.....smith is not the pick Phil makes, if monk or Isaac is on the board.
