http://email.fansided.com/c/eJx1T8GOhCAM...This Edmond Sumner kid they brought in for a workout looks like he could be a 2nd round steal by what they say about him in this article but i don't know much about him myself. Anyone know much about the kid??
there are some rumoured trades like rubio or guys that can be had like holiday or international guys like tedosic plus a plethora of second rounders pj dozier, derrick white, monte morris, frank mason, kobi simmons
I am in the minority, but in a rebuild season, why not give Baker a shot.
He showed great intangibles, and towards the end of the season he started in quite a few wins.
Most of the what a point guard does in the Triangle is bring the ball up, send the intitiation pass, and go spot up. There are other sequencies and needs but that is the main one. I even saw Baker do well in driving off picks, he was good at getting into the paint and finding the open man.
I think Baker is capable to start, if the 2 guard next to him is a volume scorer/shooter. Someone like Monk would fit in well, as Monk can switch onto smaller guards and Baker takes the bigger stronger guards defensively. He'll get you 8-10 points, 4-5 assists.
I also like Baker's defensive toughness. Fighting through screens. He sets the tone.
Like I said, we won't be a playoff team next year after a Melo trade, so starting a young guy like Baker who fits in well while we look to find a better PG, meanwhile develop the #8 pick we drafted, KP and Willy, I really don't see the downside. We're not going to be a contender or playoff team next year.
They have worked out a lot point guards that will be available in the second round or could go undrafted. The Knicks are playing for the lottery next year as well. I wouldn't waste money on Rose, Holiday or Teague. I also don't think it is worth keeping Justin for what he will get paid.
That is why I like Ntlikina for the Knicks. I think the PG position can be filled with Baker going forward. Ntlikina has the size to play sg and if Baker doesn't pan out Ntlikina can take the PG spot readily.
Monk is to small for my liking might be a great scorer but Injust don't think he bring enough to the table with other skill sets. Passing to me is more important than scoring right now and creating that passing looking for the open guy culture just might be Ntlikina's calling. I like Smith more than Monk. Just think he being passing element to the game and is a decent scorer too.
If your looking for strictly scoring then I think Monk is your guy.

I agree. Monk is too much of a niche player for what we need. I could be wrong, but his size limits the ways he can be used. You have to find the "right" backcourt partner to match him with, the right defensive scheme to cover up for him and the right offensive scheme to help him get off. I don't see him as a combo-guard, just an undersized scorer. Smith, who I have concerns about, would even provide more offensive versatility than Monk.
I'm really starting to like this Edmond Sumner kid and think he could be a steal at #44, i f he makes it to #44.

First, I think Ball may drop through. He's got all the makings of a Marbury train-wreck for whoever takes him. The choice may be Frankie or Ball. Ball is very high risk not in terms of talent but in terms of drama intangibles.
In any case, Frankie *should* be there at 8 and he's got the entire package that fits the Knicks - no triangle hang-ups, all the gifts, clean.
Trades will determine everything else. Impossible to speculate on at this point. But assuming no trades, take a look at the late first midlings and the second-round. Lots of goodness to take a flyer on.
If as the question asks, we pass on a PG I can't help but think Monk will be the pick at 8 if Melo is out the door (one way or another). Knicks will need firepower. Monk will light it up.
In the link supplied earlier, one of the more senior PGs would be a great pick along with one of the off-guards. Like a few others, I'm actually fine if Randle and Baker tag-team the position with a draftee.
Dorsey or Burton would be on my short list for the other second-round pick.
If the Knicks secure a midling first-rounder Donavan Mitchell impresses me more than Justin Jackson.

Yep those workout of 2nd round PG talent to me indicates they aren't looking exclusively at PG's at #8. Frank, Tatum, Isaac could be picked with 8
