Knicks · Phil is really upset with KP over exit meeting... (page 5)

check the record with melo as a knick
melo without phil 169-143- 4 playoff series 3 yrs
melo with phil 79-167 lottery 3 yrsYeah mels the problem
More like Melo was a loser before Phil and he's become a bigger loser as he's aged into his 30s and refuses to change his game to a more team oriented style.
Melo is a freakin albatross.
Yeah, 1248's #s aren't right either. He's including the winning tear the Knicks went on in 2013-14 once Phil joined the team as part of the record without Phil. He's also including all of 2010-11 as with Melo even though the team had a marginally higher winning percentage that year before Melo joined them. The record would still be a tad over .500 with Melo before Phil, and I'd agree with Joec's interpretation of that figure.
I didn't even look at the specific #s because I've watched Melo his whole career. He's a cancer and a loser.
He never came anywhere close to a championship contending leader of a team and that's all you need to know. For all his ego and talk every off season.
He's pissed off Phil by not following the game plan and we know this isn't a Phil problem because he's pulled the same sh-t with other top tier coaches. Ran D'antoni out of town(just won COTY), couldn't play with Lin, didn't work with Karl.
He hamstrung us when he came to the Knicks by making us give up a team worth of assets and now his sh-tty attitude is making it so we can't trade him away for assets either. Melo is going to make us buy him out to get rid of him.
If this is what loyalty to NY looks like, I'd rather have the disloyalty he gave to the Nuggets.
At least he made a conference finals for the Nuggets and left them with assets when he left. I have nothing but bad memories of ugly basketball with Melo's Knicks. He will not go down in Knicks history like Ewing to me.
If Phil is a good GM, why did he resign a cancer and loser and give him a NTC?
I wanted Melo to walk, not because I don't like him or think he's a loser, but because handing out that amount of your cap when you're going to suck is counterproductive to trying to rebuild.
I guess Phil knows this now - wished he realized it then.
But I guess when you're learning on the job, you make mistakes.
Because Melo is also very talented and if you let him walk, you get nothing for him.
Re-signing Melo was the right move. You don't let assets walk for nothing. That's what happened to the Thunder with Kevin Durant.
At the time of re-signing Melo was talking about trusting in Phil's plan and playing within the triangle.
I'll admit I was hopeful regarding Melo at the time but now at age 32 or whatever he's at, he's clearly not going to change and we all need to get with the program and move on.
Melo is a loser as a leader mentally and he doesn't have the physicality to mask that any longer. He needs a legitimate contending NBA team with the mental and physical championship make up to be useful now.
So negotiating a buy out with Melo now is a better move than let him go back then? They will pay Melo to play for somebody else. Wow great way to use our cap Phil.
Right. You'd be paying him to play elsewhere. That's even worse than him walking.

You'd be killing Phil all the same if he let Melo walk.
We don't know we are going to buy out Melo. I'd consider it a real c-nt move by Melo if he doesn't waive his NTC after what he pulled on the Knicks to get them to trade for him in the first place.
Making the Knicks give up half the team for him was a middle finger to the organization and telling the Knicks they'll have to buy him to get rid of him would be the same disrespect.
Even so, the Knicks don't need the cap space Melo would be taking. At this point the Knicks need Melo off the team more for the culture. It didn't work out, it's time for everyone to move on.
Melo was the worst type of mentor for KP. Especially when u have an egotistical GM who's only concern is his legacy. I beg Phil is like, maybe it wasn't the triangle that helped him win 11 rings. Good time to write an updated book.....
At this point.....all three are looking for the exit door, while saving face. Phil trying to get fired. Melo looking for a buy out. KPs brother would like a trade. Meanwhile Dolan is in his bat cave with a wicked grin, thinking how he can make money from this circus act.

Melo didn’t force the Knicks to do anything, instead of negotiating, the Knicks surrendered to him. This is what happen when teams have the wrong executives in charge. AND WRONG, THE KNICKS DO NEED ANY CAP SPACE AVAILABLE, EVERY TEAM DOES, AND MORE SO WHEN YOU ARE THIS BAD.

Look at how both parties responded to their respective incidents.
KP has not responded well. Phil himself says he's tried calling KP multiple times and can't get him on the phone. He's playing in Latvia during the summer when he couldn't stay healthy in NY this past season.
Rose made a bad move and mistake and promtly showed remorse and apologized. Since then I've seen nothing but total commitment to the Knicks from him. Unlike KP.
One mistake doesn't break your career but your follow up and behavior after the mistake could.

This. There's a lot of agendas out there.
Phil's is Knicks first.
Melo's is Melo first.
KP is KP first.
It's time for Knicks fans to reflect about where they stand in this equation. Should be easy enough.

You and Phil think he is trying to add talent to the team, how exactly is over paying for injuries and past their prime veterans EXACTLY adding talent to the team? On the contrary that is sabotaging the team since BUILDING A TEAM IS ALL ABOUT CAP MANAGEMENT.

Why should the Knicks be worried about their cap when they are many years away from competing for a championship.
Do the Knicks need that one last signing to get over the hump?
Knicks need a lot of young players on rookie contracts now. The odd Melo or Noah contract here or there isn't going to effect the building process besides having Melo's ego around to deal with at this point.

Cap space only matters if you're competing for a championship? The other 25 teams should just say, no thanks, to cap space and just sign league min players? Why can't a rebuilding team sign good players in their mid 20s who will be part of their long-term futures? The $50 mil spent per year of cap space on Melo and Noah absolutely could have been dedicated to rebuilding.

I agree....Phil is trying hard to build a team. But do u pay an intern 10 times more than the average for learning on the job. With high pay comes high expectations.
Phil is known for building relationships and making egotistic stars play nice together. in other words...building team chemistry.
Right now he's failing at that....while also failing at baseline GM expectations. Yes in his heart, he wants to build a team to play the right way. Larry Brown had the same intentions and Dolan gave him the boot.
This is a sensitive generation who grew up watching stars lead the nba.....Watching AI dribble and dribble and cross his way into the lane. They didn't grow up watching team ball.....Or how to play the right way. U can't expect a 70yr old man to change a generational culture in 2 yrs....especially when u haven't proven that your system works without having the best nba players on one team.
Phil s ego is too big for this generation. he was better off going to the spurs.....they are one of the few teams that still rely on the old school culture. and as u can see, they are trying to trade L.Aldridge as we speak. This generation needs a baby sitter not a dictator. Most are mentally soft....but rich enough to not give a fu c about Phil's exit interview or his legacy.

The Knicks aren't even at that point where they should be signing anyone in FA. That's AFTER you build a foundation with your franchise corner stone already in place. You don't get the small pieces and then the franchise cornerstones. You get the franchise corner stones then build around them.
Now lets go further. In a practical sense, who would the Knicks target? Lets say hypothetically the Knicks have the best reputation in the league and Phil is loved by players. Who are we targeting this off season that will come to us. Like you said, they gotta be mid 20s and part of a long term future. Who is this magical mid 20's high potential player that another team is letting go to free agency market?
If a player is young and high potential, teams aren't letting them get to FA. Those are the players you draft.

Why does it have to be a magical player? I'd have taken a bunch of Jae Crowders over Melo and Noah.

At this point.....all three are looking for the exit door, while saving face. Phil trying to get fired. Melo looking for a buy out. KPs brother would like a trade. Meanwhile Dolan is in his bat cave with a wicked grin, thinking how he can make money from this circus act.
Phil is the ONLY ONE actually acting for the benefit of the KNICKS! Phil wants DEFENSE, BALL AND PLAYER MOVEMENT, SACRIFICE FOR THE TEAM! What is Melo's motivation or KP's? They both are thinking only of what is best for them!
Phil isn't trying to GIVE assets away. He's trying to ADD to the talent on talent on the team! Funny to me how Phil gets bashed when his actual moves are intended to make this a better TEAM! Screw the Media that keeps twisting things! Fans need to stop being Media Sheep!
What would you say Phil's big ego is costing him right now?
A chance to placate a immature kid that won't work out anyway?
A chance to keep a 32 year old non productive Melo around so we can wallow in 9-10th place in the east for a few more years?
Someone needs to give this franchise a wake up call. We need a strong leader at the top.
The reason good players aren't coming to the Knicks right now has very little to do with the Knicks.
You know how and when players will come to the Knicks in FA?
When we have a good, young team making the playoffs. Not before. No matter how much people like or dislike Phil on a personal level. Lebron hates Dan Gilbert yet he went back there when the situation was right.
Don't expect personal loyalty with these divas, you gotta play this business right.

Not even Jae Crowders make it to the open market and when they do, they tend to cost as much as Melo despite not being as good.

By watching a constant defying and usurping within the Knicks players ranks, mostly by Melo, it's infected players like KP. KP came into the league impressionable. From up top he heard 'ball movement and triangle'. Fish and Melo blatantly spat at that and taught KP this type of attitude towards guys like Phil is cool.
Know how I know it's not Phil who is wrong? Melo has an entire career now of being a loser who is not willing to follow the game plan. George Karl called him out on it. He got D'antoni fired over it. D'antoni just won COTY and Karl is a coaching legend.
Melo has got to go and with the way KP has been acting, give me one good reason why fielding offers for him isn't a good move. Say this with me people 'In the NBA assets are largely liquid'.
The genius of dealing KP is that enough GMs might think Phil actually is incompetent that we can sell high.
check the record with melo as a knick
melo without phil 169-143- 4 playoff series 3 yrs
melo with phil 79-167 lottery 3 yrsYeah mels the problem
FACTS
Lin took the money when he signed the poison pill
Melo took the money in the Denver trade instead of signing as FA
Melo took the money and the NTC and the kicker
TROLLING
(The same people have said these over and over again)
It was Lin's fault he took the money
It was Walsh' fault on the Denver trade
It was Phil's fault on the NTC and 25MM per
Just freeze out the trolls and their preciou double standards and focus on the draft.

CAP SPACE ALWAYS MATTER, Phili and Boston have being lending their cap space to other teams for years as long as they surrender future picks or young players (this is how they accumulated many of their current assets). Brooklyn just acquired D.Angelo from the Lakers by absorbing additional two years of Mosgov’s contract. YOU WANT TO BUILD A GOOD TEAM, YOU HAVE TO HAVE GOOD CAP MANAGEMENT SO YOU CAN TAKE ADVANATGE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES WHEN THEY THERE. YOU RARELY SEE CONTENDERS WITH MANY BAD CONTRACTS, ON THE TEAM.
Given our lofty valuation in the world of sports the New York Knicks are without question one of the worst run organizations in not only US Sports but globally. Quite an accomplishment. What a complete shambles we are.
